I have realised that I never mentioned how I saw Tim Westwood, smiled at him, got a smile back yet only realised 10 minutes late who it was... How useless I am! Scott is so lovely and chatted to us for a little bit before he went inside :)

My goodness, that's a pretty funky donkey!

For the international viewers, this is a privilege we will probably never have.

I'm an international listener and last summer I had the chance to meet the actual Lord of the Geeks. And not just him...

There ya go:

The first one is my conversation with Scott (was demanded...) and the second one the actual story. :)

"I like Franziska. Sounds mad as a box of frogs, but we like her." (Dev)

Post here your stories about meeting Scott. The most detailed, the better.

Met him at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last August... Also met Becky.

I chose the 16th August to try for the tickets, because it was Madonna's birthday, and I felt it may be lucky somehow. Also, everything I did on that particular day had a "SCOTT" in it.... In an Internet cafe in Glasgow I was served by a SCOTT, then in a cafe in the park a SCOTT, in a shop a SCOTT, then I wound up on top of the SCOTT monument whilst waiting for the time when tickets would be announced. O, and the taxi driver was a SCOTT !! Beat this!!

I was also almost run over by a vehicle in my desperate attempt to get my paws on tix... had gone to the wrong location and had to run about !! Raced into the venue (hysterical) at around 100 miles an hour, still couldn't find Becky + Co., despite standing in the bloody location, and had to be grabbed by someone from R1 !!

The venue operated a "non sportswear policy" so.... as your's truly was in her trainers, I had to run down to Princes Street in Edinburgh, and buy a pair of shoes and tights from Topshop!! Grrrr...

Was kind of dragged across to meet him by a slightly mad lady I randomly met .... I was reluctant to actually go across (scared), but he was very welcoming to anybody and everybody there.

Found him a nice man: peaceful and sensitive, observant ...... short attention span though, I would say?! Like he could only have a conversation for so long on perhaps most subjects?!?!

A very direct stare, like he can see into your soul... Found this a bit unnerving. He also doesn't smile a lot either, which is little scary, and has a habit of turning his face, so you wind up talking to the side of his face!!

The female beside me randomly asked Scott to sign her forehead, which was a bit awkward, and Scott said it was the "weirdest thing he had ever done" !! Thanx to her 'brilliance', I managed not to have the chance to ask for an autograph, but managed to get one at a later stage in the post!!

On stage, he is a very competent, confident performer, quite different (I found) from the person in the courtyard. He does pull some sarcastic faces on stage... it's maybe meant to be self-depreciating, but doesn't look that great!!

He is also very self-aware, I think..... but the sensitivity is definitely there. The crazy lady I wound up sat with for the evening had shouted out "You look like a stripper" when he was up on stage, and you could actually see him visibly flinch.

So, all's well that ends well.

O, he also had on a black leather jacket which I liked, and wanted to steal!! ha ha - I also expected him to be taller. Nice and slim though!! (And cute). ;-)

In the photo of my friend with Scott he is doing his staring thing... It's quite funny :P

My autographed picture has the "stary thing", but oddly enough I didn't find it funny.... I actually felt he could see everything and I was thinking and feeling, and it knocked me a little sideways. *

* Being a bit of a control freak, I don't really like being knocked sideways!!

** Franzi also found the same thing about the "staring" at you !! :hahaha:

describe the stare!

I think we found it more funny because in my photo he is smiling and happy, and in my friend's he has a straight face and is just staring into the camera.

Not so great this one, but took me quite by surprise!

Went to Cardiff this Saturday to see Aiden Grimshaw (not so into him, but my friends wanted to go and I wanted to get drunk). Queued for about half an hour and found ourselves crammed into the club downstairs paying £3.50 for pints, not amusing.

We went upstairs where it was slightly less busy later on and I see a very familiar looking jacket from behind; I believe its actually quite sad that I could tell who it was from the back of their head?

Anyways, Scott went outside for a cigarette and I followed suit obviously. Already quite drunk at this point, I basically pointed and shouted 'Scott Mills!' and started talking about UM and 'your views' from about 2 years ago, and also how I missed Flirt Divert. No picture sadly :( one of my housemates broke my camera the other week!! But still, was slightly surreal but cool, and was more fun than watching an X Factor reject despite the jabs I got from my friends :)

    • Less so with 5 Live. But with Nihal, Nicky Campbell and Mark Chapman get what you are saying.6 Music does have that with Huw Stephens, Mary Anne Hobbs, Gilles Peterson, Marc Riley and Mark Radcliffe
    • Agreed, Martha seems to quietly taken over as host of the Tuesday Bass and Big Beats show that Annie Nightingale did would be good to have some promotion to be done for her show. Agreed with this on bank holidays on a Radio 1 dance day inpaticular would be quite good to have Sarah Storey, Jaguar, Jeremiah Asiamah, Charlie Tee and Martha presenting. I always felt that in Christmas and New Year previously having Victoria Jane to do a Future Soul take over playlist.
    • To be fair to him, this week and next week he’s on his podcast tour which was arranged well before he started on R1. After that I would guess he’ll start being on everyday?
    • It’s Jamie’s dream of a lifetime to be a full time Radio 1 presenter apparently, but he can only do it 2 or 3 days a week.
    • Radio 1 generation meaning??  Today's 10-30 yr-olds? I doubt it. They'll still know Pete Tong though, because he is rhyming slang!
    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock. 6th May schedule has updated to show that the Radio 1 Big Weekend Shows will now be the following: 6am-10am 10am-2pm 2pm-6pm 6pm-8pm Still no presenters listed.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
