Recommended Posts

Last year, in the 2010 Predictions thread, many predictions were made. http://tiny.cc/d8cvn

These are the results...

Correct Predictions.

  • Chippy - Prince William gets engaged.
  • E*F*L*4L - Some sort of big disaster in the world, earthquake, hurricane, flood.
  • E*F*L*4L - Labour government booted out
  • E*F*L*4L - Gordon Brown won't be PM anymore by June.
  • Rik - Lots more extreme weather.
  • Rik - Conservatives will come to power and do absolutely diddley squat.
  • Mark710 - The economy will slowly recover worldwide.
  • John - Pete Doherty gets arrested.
  • Me_54m - By everyone will have forgotten who Joe Mcelderry is.
  • Rainbow_brite - There will be a shock match result in the World Cup.
  • Rainbow_brite - We'll be out of recession by the end of the year.
  • Rainbow_brite - Most of the airwaves throughout the year will be filled with awful pop songs.
  • Mitchell - A celebrity will die young, of natural causes that end up being unnatural.
  • Mitchell - The Daily Mail will spread their politically incorrect hatred of our country to the right-wing idiots who buy the shitrag paper.
  • Mitchell - England will not win the World Cup, but boy will we ever believe that we can.

Wrong Predictions.

  • Chippy - America will be attacked by terrorists.
  • Chippy - At least a couple of shootings at the 2010 World Cup.
  • E*F*L*4L - There will be some sort of attack in the UK, (London, Birmingham, Manchester) or/and attack either on USA soil or a embassy,
  • E*F*L*4L - Iran to go nuclear, Israel or USA to do some sort of strike against Iran
  • E*F*L*4L - Tony Bliar to be tried for war crimes
  • E*F*L*4L - Australia vote on leaving the Commonwealth (due to Charlie boy being a idiot & future king),
  • E*F*L*4L - England get knocked out of the semi's in the world cup.
  • Rik - Quite big improvements to the economy, but not enough to pull us out of recession.
  • Rik - Russia will claim we've done something to annoy them and cut off our fuel.
  • Rik - Some sort of attack on western society from the middle east.
  • Rik - Dubai will be deserted when all the Arab's fail on their loans, leaving a rather expensive wasteland.
  • DC - I can see something happening to birmingham over here, the canals aren't very well protected and lead right into the city centre.
  • DC - They will attempt another attack on the united states again, maybe on the scale of 9/11.
  • DC - On a lighter note. England will go to the world cup with owen coming off the bench to fire us on, until we get knocked out in the quater finals by Portugal.
  • Serin - Thatcher will finally die hopefully.
  • Mitchell - The election will be won by a political party.
  • Mark710 - The US will not experience a terrorist attack on the scale of 9/11 but a European Capital will experience a major attack.
  • Mark710 - There will be a sad occasion that will visit the Royal Family.
  • Rainbow_brite - Unfortunately the Tories will win the General Election
  • Me_54m - There will be either summer flood or a summer heatwave or both but either way it will be the wettest or hottest month on record.
  • Rainbow_brite - There will be a security scare in the Commonwealth Games
  • Mitchell - I genuinely think the Tories may not get into power though. Got a weird feeling that it'll be closer than people think, and that Labour may edge it.
  • Lucie - I reckon Miley Cyrus or somebody similar will get pregnant.

Will you have better predictions for 2011?

I haven't forgotten who Joe McElderry is, I have his album, 'tis awesome. My personal favourite is Real Late Starter…

Yeah but most normal people have, or just don't care... I mean what's he done lately? Same will happen with that guy who 'won' it last year too... X-Factor only ever gives 3 minutes of fame, surely people should be able to see this by now?

Professional eater of puppy dogs, baby heads and killer of grannies...

    • My perspective when saying ‘alienating’  was from a listener , a new listener to a new music show where every track is unfamiliar can be alienating. When I used to run a music blog website and took my eye off the ball it could be hard to get finger back on pulse. I remember first listening to after 7pm on radio 1 and it feeling like a different world of music completely as a teenager- I think this format knocks them barriers down and makes a smooth transition from daytime playlists to new music show  taking listener deeper down as show progresses yeah you are bang on with setting the agenda - what a great influential role to have
    • Fair play to Jordan north who’s got himself to 5th least distracting, but Greg has managed 8th MOST distracting, and Rickie who is 12th most distracting.
    • 29th April has Alyx Holcombe in for Daniel P Carter on the Rock show and Nels Hylton in for Alyx on Introducing Rock. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Monday 6th May (May Day Bank Holiday) schedules are completely different. Looks like it's a Countdown to Radio 1's Big Weekend day. Changed timeslots in the morning as well with no presenters listed. 6am-10am (Breakfast slot changed from 7am-10:30am) 10am-1pm (Mid morning/early afternoon slot changed from 10:30-12:45pm) 1pm-3:30pm (As normal) 3:30pm-6pm (No Newsbeat) 6pm-8pm (Replaces New Music Show) Rest of evening schedule as normal.
    • What does that even mean? 😂
    • Not sure what it really means, but Scott Mills is one of the least distracting DJs according to new research. https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article-13283609/Most-distracting-radio-podcast-hosts-driving-revealed-Mark-Wright-Chris-Evans-list.html It says Radio 1 though, which is not only inaccurate, but also I can only imagine it applying to his Radio 2 show. How many sounds effects did he used to play on Radio 1, ha.
    • I would rather do the new music show than the breakfast show early starts, being cheery and entertaining isn’t my vibe and being hip and on trend. With new music it’s a different kettle of fish that could get my teeth into and enjoy researching and planning of the show and coming up with ideas and making my mark in away that I don’t think I have the ideas for a breakfast. I don’t see how it could be alienating but I enjoy the niche and speciality of expertise that new music shows gives it’s good spot of giving you the headlines and setting the agenda of mainstream music.
    • Absolutely, Jack is such an incredible broadcaster already, incredibly entertaining with such brilliant music knowledge and his excitement is contagious, I've never really listened to New Music Shows like Future Sounds but I'm instantly invested in new music due to his show, as I'm sure many others are too.  yes the effects are a little strange but after listening back they're strangely charming when you get used to them.
    • Jack has smashed it He was born for this show, he said he’d been dreaming of it and you could tell. Such passion and energy as always with Jack but in a show that can grab people’s attention and drag them down the rabbit hole of new music if you had a keen interest in discovering new music but haven’t in a while, new music shows can be alienating with no familiarity until you ‘get into it’ - the new show has ensured you can ease into to get back into sync . i love the Zane influences - he will be the forefront of where every emerging and returning artist wants to be with this show . Very excited for this chapter
    • Oh I though they were nbh studios
    • Yes, I feel that unless it’s for a special sessions with a large ensemble band that for live sessions going out live on the radio. Never saw why they haven’t used the live lounge studio and feel that room could be used more.
    • Interesting now Zane has for apple interviewed anything from an artists that have charted and doing less interviews with new and emerging talents chatting to Shakira, Usher, Kelly Clarkson and Shania Twain. Yes, that is a positive thing about Jack Saunders. Although I don’t mind it from time to time for a presenter to be honest and spill an unsavoury opinion about music on the station like Annie did with Fall Out Boy.
    • Interesting Jack mentioned they've got new studios at Maida Vale; you'd think, with the move to Stratford, they wouldn't bother update the studios so close to the end...
    • I assume it's meant to appeal to a TikTok generation
    • Yep Jack is very much Radio 1's modern day Zane Lowe - but with the bonus that he does feel a bit a bit more open-minded and open to chart stuff than Zane was. I could never imagine Zane being a chart host the way Jack is - I always had the sense if Zane didn't approve of your music taste he'd make you well aware of it.
