I find this article a bit bizzarre. It's such a strange mixture of celebrities who don't really seem that interest in sport!

CELEBRITY fans have backed plans for David Beckham and Harry Redknapp to form a dream team in charge of the England football squad.

The Daily Mirror revealed yesterday that senior executives at the FA are secretly lining up the pair to succeed Fabio Capello, who is out of contract next year.

And yesterday a host of famous faces supported the duo to breathe new life into English football.

Mirror columnist and TV star Fiona Phillips, 50, described the news as “the biggest story of the day”, adding: “It’s brilliant. Harry can get the best out of the most mediocre of players and Beckham will learn from him.

“Fabio Capello was a brilliant club boss but it hasn’t really transferred to the international scene. But it’s a big risk for Beckham because he’s so adored. I wonder if he’ll still be a national treasure at the end?”

Calling the union a “dream ticket”, former This Morning presenter Richard Madeley, 54, added his strong support.

But he also warned Beckham to be careful, saying that the England manager’s job can sometimes prove to be “a poisoned chalice”.

Spandau Ballet and former EastEnders star Martin Kemp branded the move a “fairytale”. The actor, 49, said: “Redknapp and Becks? What a fantastic pairing. It could be a dream come true for all English football fans.”

His bandmate Tony Hadley, 50, agreed, saying: “Harry Redknapp, one of the most respected managers in football, and David Beckham, a super-talented player and great ambassador for the sport – what a brilliant partnership.

“If anyone can restore pride in English football, these guys can.”

Rap star Tinchy Stryder, 24, enthused: “I think Harry Redknapp taking over would be really cool and interesting, Harry’s a good manager and has proved it.

“I’ve got a lot of respect for David, and hopefully he gets to take over in the future.”

BBC Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills, 36, weighed in: “With Harry’s management skills and David Beckham’s style and good looks it would be a winning combination.”

And former X Factor winner Shayne Ward, 26, said: “I rate Harry Redknapp enormously. With Beckham, it could be really special. Their passion, belief and work ethic could turn things around.”

I read that and laughed assuming it was from the Bizzarre column in The Sun, thought you had gone all Viv on us Jono :P

The David Beckham part makes no sense to me. What makes The FA assume he'll be a good or effective manager or coach? And I've never understood why Harry Redknapp is so adored, I've never been a fan. But maybe that's because I'm an Arsenal fan.

Well he wasn't even that good as a player, if he and the rest of the England team were as good as some keep saying, surely 'he' would have won the World Cup a few times in his career... or even ONCE. Would help if they stopped putting all their hopes on one or two people perhaps, and also stopped living off past glory.

The list of 'celebs' supporting this does read like a random list of people they offered enough money to though... I mean Scott talking about 'management style'? Maybe if they got Lloyd or Chappers, or even Moyles (probably tried but weren't offering enough?), I'd believe that kind of talk, but not from Scott.

Viv: Must be a writer being sarcastic. I wouldn't imagine Scott would even know what a goalpost was. Ha ha.

Would probably think it was a penis. Ha ha

Mind you, that's Mills' way of speaking, isn't it. Not being nasty, but, never mind if they can actually DO anything, as long as they have style and looks.... I can't help thinking someone has just spotted the same Mills' train of thought I have, and just written that up. As Jono says, the entire article is really pretty bizarre.

Still love him though - Scott, that is (if you could just take away the asthetic stuff) - not Mr Beckham (bleuch) *vomits over the topic* - Or the too-skinny wife ....... * vomits a lot harder * She could do with a big plate of apple pies.

How rude. I am still smarting because I had a hot title for my topic about Aled - which was in the 'Sun' incidentally, I log on, and the topic is already there, with a considerably more boring title on it. *

* Jono would probably class it as logic (ha ha).

I've half given it up.... I get newspapers passed on to me by family.... I've cut down on my trashy magazines however. I'm just getting "New" (great for R1 snippets) and "Now"...... a vast improvement on formerly buying up half the shelf in TESCO!! Ha ha

This morning I'm reading www.cosmopolitan.co.uk - I'm reading an article about blow jobs, entitled "Blow Him Away" - ha ha - who thought that one up!! - check it out!! :hahaha:

To be honest, I often find the Guardian quite hard to read. I fear it may be pitched above my level of intelligence, you know. Have to read it several times.

Haha I love that Scott mentioned Beckham's good looks as an important factor! I have to agree.

*sighs* OK, it would be naive to think that someone like Beckham isn't gonna make vast amounts of money through good looks. And, I guess, why the Hell not?! However, society in general has become far too "looks-orientated", I think, and people kind of forget the importance of actually being able to do a job?

Just a thought. Do you want to be just a pretty face in your teaching job? Is this really the first thing you want your colleagues, etc., to zone in on, even if, yes, they probably do?!?! * :-)

      Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.

      Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters

      Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.

      Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.

      Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.

      Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
