Hi,

Radio 1 use software from 'VCS', a foreign company. They make the cartwall software/ standard 'On-Air Control' software and other bits and pieces used across the BBC.

However, sign up to this site, and you can get software like they use on Radio 1, for free if approved!

Well worth a look. It does take 1-3 days to approve your licence application though.

Latest additions:

- Full Imaging Beds package (2009-2010)

- 2009 re-voice by Music4 (DRY+WET IDs, chart numbers 1-40)

- BBC Top Gear - Backing beds used in programs

I've had this software for fair few years now when it had only just started out. It's actually fully customisable so you can change all the layout and create your skins for the software.

I don't really use it much but it is pretty cool, however runs slow on my laptop - think that is more my tired laptop's fault!

Does anyone else find the cartwall loads slowly inbetween cart sets?

Yeah - i use other software for cartwall for my personal use.

It's called DAC Cartwall, its really good and at www.charliedavy.co.uk

It is free to run for 30 minutes at a time, but is only £15 to purchase. It customises well, and loads quite quickly. Would recommend it!

I use 'Jingle Palette' works very well! The .zip of the files is very hard to find, but here it is!:

http://www.filecluster.com/Audio-Video/Utilities-Plug-ins/Download-Jingle-Palette.html

Scroll down a bit down the above page to get the link.

You MUST save your 'palettes', or else when you change 'palette', unless you've saved your palette, you will lose the 'palette' you just set up.

Another good program, which is double the price of the DAC program, is 'CombiWave', you get a 'basic' version, where you get 3 slots, but pay about £35 and you get 99.

It works by pressing keyboard buttons, and it's fine with :.wav .mp3 .wma .ogg and others

It's fine handling bit files, even some R1 beds, which are full .wav files, are around 50MB, and they play in an instant

I like the Combi wave software as it is easy to use. Does anyone know of any software like combiwave where you can assign tracks/jingles to keyboard buttons but that has the ability to record it aswell? I currently use Atomix MP3 which gives you your F keys (e.g.F5) to assign tracks/jingles to but Combiwave gives you much more choice and extra buttons to use!

Capes :)

Radio stations here in Switzerland use that software as well. I always wondered how the DJs know when to stop talking before the singing starts... :)

I now have a free copy too, I like how they're giving it away to everyone. And I already played around with it a bit, I love it!!

Yeah, incase you lot haven't already done it yet, go onto C/Program Files/Mairlist/config.bat

You can change loads of stuff around on there, such as hotkeys, the number of 'carts' you have ect.

    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
    • Just watched that advert and it made me realise quite how many 'big' specialist presenters there were back then
    • I've been reminded of this Radio 1 cinema advert. I remember being so excited to see it. The In New Music We Trust era. Everything felt so cool, even if they had Westwood.
    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
    • Wow, surprised he signed a new contract in September but it says a lot about Jordan that he continued to a very high standard throughout last summer/autumn if this was all going on in the background.
