Newbie Dear Scott question...

Recommended Posts

Hello! At the risk of being shoved against the lockers by the older folk for being such a stupid newbie, I thought I'd ask a question about Dear Scott:

Is it actually a lot harder to get on it than Scott and Beccy make out? I've sent in some real zingers if I may say so myself...but nadda! What's a guy gotta do to get his e-mail read out? :(

For example, I sent in the attached clip for some innuendo bingo...I really thought it'd get on! Am I just being naive? Should I persevere? Shall I just go and sit in the corner and think about what I've done?

Actually, as a sort of aside:

When I sent in my first e-mail, I got the auto-reply telling me he couldn't reply to all e-mails. My subsequent didn't even get an auto-reply :/

I've sent in an innuendo bingo clip, a request for the PR4L to read out the lyrics of a song that *sounds* like it says 'watch me while I take a pee', a photo of a sign in IKEA that says 'We aim to give you the Air Hostess service!' in their cafe (Could be competition for their air plane food restaurant!), a clip of Beccy being VERY silly, and all sorts of nonsense...

It's not even that I'm desperate to get on...it's just that some of the stuff really would have been good material. It probably didn't help that I sent my innuendo bingo clip in the last week Scott was on. Beccy wasn't even around on Thursday, and now he's in Australia. Ho hum...I won't give up!

Sorry, but I don't find either of this particular impressive.

If they have a guest coming in, think up a really good question/ some obscure fact that not a lot of people would know about. *

* This seems to be R1 mentality. When I sent in a question recently about Russell Howard attempting to set his bum on fire, I KNEW 100% R1 would pick it up.... when I sent it in, I could feel all the hairs on my head standing up!!!!!! *

* not. a. joke.

Yeah, no, I'll admit that my first few e-mails were lame...like...actually lame. But then I'd only been listening to the show for a few weeks. The last one though - the innuendo bingo - wasn't that bad, was it? I thought the fact that the words had come out of his own mouth would make it that much more humorous.

Anyway...perhaps I should have hung around a bit more before posting. I'm really not somebody who joined just so I could find out how to get onto the show...I don't want to get a reputation! I just thought I'd ask as you lot would probably know better than anybody else!

it's OK... Please feel free to get a reputation. Just wait to you run into Andy Mac.... he's absolutely obsessed with getting e-mails read out. And I mean OBSESSED.

Why would Scott choose to read his own stuff back though on his Show.... maybe that's what wrong, the innuendo is often from external sources, you know!!

I would wait until the next batch of guests, find out something so completely random and off-the-wall about them, then do up an e-mail with the Guest name in the subject title, and go for it!!

Not so sure about the UM thing. I have unofficialmills in my sig., and can't get this place picked up.

Argh except he totally just sailed right past this one without saying anything!

It's ok though, I'll make my peace with it. One day.

Until then, I'll sit here in my dark room, on a Friday night, rocking back and forth on a chair in front of a computer, plotting ways in which to concoct a suitab- ooh! Look! A video of a cat being wrapped up! Ok, I'm totally over Dear Scott.

    • The shows surely being driven for him so all he has to do is talk between the tracks and he can’t get even get that right
    • I thought the same to that comment, the license fee is going on me babes
    • What with Jamie Laing, now him. Is it time for a new Head of the station?
    • He also just said coming up we have brand new segment, I thought they were a band 🤣 how did this man get on Radio 1? Aled needs his head testing. It’s an insult people who deserve to be on the radio
    • Of all the times not mention capital it's probably now? Jordan is flying on breakfast with chris & sian and there's a presenter on friday and saturday that doesn't know who a main r1 artist, tldp are. Mentions capital which surely has to be a big no no given recent events and then says the licence fee goes to me. Talk about vom. We can't have it on here no more as it's that unlistenable and I'm about to switch back for m&m, but this is a Maya Jama x50 level mess of a show. Forget fading the microphone down, the entire show needs fading down
    • As positives go, at least Danny said what the last song played was and upcoming song played was. Plus I guess in that link are perhaps ideas for content (asking listeners to come up with bands from things around them, things that have happened to them this week). That's where's the positives end. It comes across as no thought has gone into what Danny will say next. It gives me proper flashbacks to some Jamie Laing links (especially that one show where he was unexpectedly solo). It's ironic that for all the duos and trios on the station - the one show and DJ that is positively crying out for another DJ to help show them the ropes is left all solo. At least with Jamie Laing they learnt their lesson and he's not been left solo since.
    • How he was just faded out at the end of the link reminded me of the Oscars music fading you out
    • RPReplay_Final1713612277.mp4   You’re welcome
    • At a time when Radio 1 has surely lost listeners to Capital at Breaktast you’d be trying to protect the station so people switch back.  Certainly yesterday I didn’t switch back to Radio 1 at all.
    • Was abysmal…Surely Danny can’t be a contender for anything permanent when the new schedules are locked in I.e Matt and Mollies slot
    • Alexandra Burke creating the phrase 'Elephant In The Room' whooooooooo
    • Zane Versus.... Whooooooooo. Do You Do Fridays? WhooOOOooo.
    • The Capital Breakfast show is right up my street so far - such a fun listen. You've both been great on Radio 1 and are sounding excellent again on Capital A few quickfire questions: You've both been part of some great pairings on radio and on podcast - what goes into making a duo or trio work and sound great on air? Also, Chris - were there ever any discussions about you moving over to Radio 2 with Scott or had the Global offer already come first? Also how do you both go about managing that split between your radio 'you' and the private 'you'? You share a lot on air but also there's some understandably some stuff you keep private (famously Jordan doesn't 'talk about those things'). And how do you make sure if you're having a miserable day or are a bit low that it doesn't come across too much on air?
    • What a nightmare link at 11.15am this morning. Spent 30 seconds waffling about the name of The Last Dinner Party as if he’d never heard it before, then started mentioning Capital and the license fee, and how it’s been used to pay for him to be there, and was then cut off by the start of the next song.
    • Have been reading this all week. She's such a brave woman. Just got to the chapter where she explains why she missed Scott's leaving event at Radio 1. She talks about leaving Radio 1 because her mum's health got worse, and wanting to quietly leave radio at 44 just how she first arrived on the airwaves at 18. Worth a read!
