Movember!

Is anyone on here taking part in this worthy event?

It is an effort on behalf of a charity, whereby blokes have to grow moustaches in order to raise awareness of, and help people who are suffering from prostate cancer. http://uk.movember.com/about/

My lovely Timsk and his NHS colleagues have gone all 'tache-ified' for 30 days (starting last Monday). Almost mistook him for Rufus Hound earlier! Not such a bad thing, I suppose. Bit of stubble burn though.;)

If any of you have a pound or two to donate, it'd be greatly appreciated.

I don't have a pound or 2 to donate. I am tired of being asked for cash all the time. I swear, the Internet and the streets are full of people asking for money every week.

Harsh, I know, but true. I am not giving a pound, or 2, or 50 pence, or even 1 pence (fact).

Viv... as cliched as it sounds, if you don't have anything nice to say you really just shouldn't bother. Nobody is forcing you to donate.

Best of luck to Tim in his moustache-growing endeavours, I'll make my donation at some point today.

So save the last dance

For me my love 'cause I

I see you as an angel freshly fallen from the sky...

I'm just saying. You can't walk down a street these days without a can or a magazine being thrust into your face. Money for this, that, the other.

I'm starting a "viv" can where people can give me 1p just for being harassed for money. I should be loaded pretty much by the end of the first day.

We're in an on-going recession, and it's just outrageous. And Xmas is coming up for us all. And VAT hikes on everything from 1st January 2011. I've had to buy a number of extra clothes early, before the V.A.T. hikes in 2011.

Never mind growing moustaches. We're all doomed. The whole bloody lot of us.

I think that it is great that Timsk is doing this!

Viv as for you, can I cast your mind back to Sport relief, where nearly every post you made was asking for people to donate? I think you even had a sponsor me message in your signature! So don't come on here moaning and whining about people asking for donations.

You never have a nice word to say when Nati is involved. So take Helen's advice and for once keep your stupid contradicting opinions to yourself!

Bit ironic considering how many threads you've made in the (recent) past pestering us all about donating to/sponsoring Scott, Radio 1 etc...

For everyone supporting me in this (even just with a thought or comment), you have my thanks. The 'tache is already fully grown - in just a week and a half! It has a lot of grey mixed in, but people have told me it looks distinguished - so that kind up makes up for the itching / scratching and general ridiculousness of the whole thing...

Times are hard for all of us, but it's one of the things I admire most about the British public - the general willingness to give a thought (or a spare pound or two) to those who are in a less fortunate position than themselves. 1 in 10 men will suffer from prostate cancer, so it's quite possible a brother, father or male friend will be afflicted at some point later in their lives, and it's a tiny thing for me to do to look more daft than normal for a month to get people commenting and to raise awareness a tiny bit.

I'll be posting a picture at some point, you have been warned!

EDIT: Thanks for the donation Helen - much appreciated.

Damn, you got there before me. ;)

I'll check my Paypal to see how many pennies I have...

Yes, but that was before we had a change of Government. No-one knows what on Earth they will do next, and I strongly advise anyone to think carefully about just how much they can afford - now, or in the future. I will even be thinking about what I will give to R1 in future.

Like Emma, I will leave it here.

    • Annie did the Friday night dance show as well so I think that made her more prominent. She's an excellent presenter at new music and I think Jack is the perfect successor for this show. Clara was always in the 'good' category for me. She's been around since I started listening to R1 so feels a bit weird she's leaving. Think it's only Greg, Matt, Danny Howard and Pete Tong left now!
    • See I don’t agree…I think the three way dynamic is not really working. Vick & Katie are really great together and I enjoy Vick & Jamie together. It’s something between Katie & Jamie that’s not gelling for me. However it’s early days and they are still much better than some other combos. Plus Matt & Jamie were radio comedy gold for me so I don’t think Jamie’s the problem. Just maybe didn’t need to be a three.
    • HAppy birthday Scott mills I hope u like the photo sent to you and I hope u recived my massive birthday CARD as I sent it to BBC RADIO 2 broadcasting house on special recorded delivery for you as let me if u have got it as I wrote a very large letter to you inside the card and sent a photo inside the card as well your biggest fan Yolanda xxxx LOVE 💖 YOU MILLIONS SCOTT  MILLS
    • It's rather sad that Pink News is even running this - they should know better.
    • I was invested in the show when it was Vick and Jordan / Katie - now I don't pay attention and might leave the station when Jordan starts on Capital.  What I do hear is a mix of formulaic and awful.   It's strange how one person leaving a station can affect your outlook on the whole station.
    • Happy birthday Scott! Hurry up and get back on the airwaves 😊
    • Think it just depends on his commitments but agree he's a good listen.
    • I liked her last show, but I don’t feel it had the same impact as Annie’s show. Also, I feel her tenure was quite short to be honest, so don’t understand what the sentiments are all about. I mean Annie did this show for 6 years and Zane Lowe for 12, compared to Clara’s 3 years. Looking forward to Jack taking over from her - I think he has a lot of influence from Zane Lowe and we need that energy in 6pm slot.
    • I wonder if R1 will do a big event type thing on the week that Jordan starts on Capital? It will minimise the number of people turning over I’d guess
    • Hard to believe that all the new shows from September 2021 are now pretty much over, aside from RMC on the live lounge show, and even then, they seemed to change things up after 18 months or so. It feels like yesterday since 6th September 2021 when all those new shows began!
    • I've never listened to Rylan before this week but have found him to be excellent.  He should be Scott's main cover going forwards
    • Always thought Arielle would get this show. She's the most natural presenter to Annie Mac. Maybe it was something to do with her Dj career and residencies in Ibiza
    • Sad that she said she felt different to others at Radio 1 having come from 1Xtra. Lovely how supportive Greg was through her career.
    • To be honest she never filled Annie’s shoes in my eyes. It’s been a disappointing tenure having not been able to grow her show. It’s a stark contrast from her mid morning show where I preferred her to RMC.
    • Yesterday when Katie was off was nearly unlistenable. Shows how vital she is in the show dynamic.
