Early Breakfast

where are the Early Breakfast DJs normally moved? Weekend slots?
Greg went to daytime, Scott went to weekends but got the afternoon show quite quickly I think. JK and Joel just did the chart and that was it - and theit career on radio 1 came to an end. Dev, for some reason, was moved from weekends to early breakfast.

Dev actually did the opposite and went from weekends to early breakfast!

But I would much rather have a daily Radio show than just doing weekend breakfast, I'm sure Dev would to. For one more pay, two having to come up with 5 days of content a week is much more of a challenge. He'll grow as a DJ much more on Earlies.

He's been doing the show for a year nearly now and he hasn't grown at all. Greg was fantastic on earlies and it was clear from very early on. I doubt Dev will ever get a better slot than he's got now.

I guess you're not a fan of his then.

Like him or not, to say he's not improved is unfair. He may not be amongst Radio 1s greatest presenters of past or present, he may never be, but that certainly doesn't detract from the fact that he's a lot better than he was when he first started on Radio 1. Whether that's still good enough or not is a debate for another day, but he certainly has grown.

Does anyone else feel it's time for some fresh new talent, something different maybe? I know there are some great, promising newish DJs working at the station but...I dunno, I just feel like there's something missing or it's time for a change somewhere.

Look how far Greg James has come in 2-3 years! Seems a while ago now, it'd be nice to see someone else with as much promise join. Nothing against Dev or anyone else in general, just feel there's something lacking slightly. Hope to see some new faces brought in over the next few months!

I agree. Would be nice to have someone new and different. But not like Tom Deacon and Matt Edmondson. Someone not-childish and actually entertaining, please!!

I agree. Forget about importing CBBC presenters, they need to spend more time and energy searching for the next generation of DJs and presenters. Student Radio DJs, club DJs, even those on commercial radio and already on BBC radio. Not to mention those already working behind the scenes who have shown potential. People with personality and character with an interest in music, who are able to do more than just read a script out and texts between the 12 tracks they play in an hour, and create 3 hours worth of entertaining and engaging radio. A potential breakfast show host, the next generation of specialist music DJs.

Jez Welham from Kiss would be worth trying out, I'd also love to hear Mistajam, Fabio & Grooverider, Nick Bright, and Twin B from 1Xtra, and Bobby Friction, Adil Ray and Shaun Keaveny from 6Music and Asian Network try covering a few daytime radio shows on 1Xtra and Radio 1. Trying out specialist DJs out in daytime roles has worked for Westwood, Annie Mac, Ronnie Herel, Trevor Nelson and Nihal.

Oh, and nurture George Lamb to take over 4-7 or breakfast over the next few years.

I actually thing Dev is pretty good for that time of the morning. I think its just the right level of entertainment for getting up in the morning, the show may be a bit ropey and some of his stories might not really go anywhere but at the end of the day we could have it a lot lot worse. I'm thinking of when we've had Max of that shamefully dreadful Matt Edmundson, those have been some truely dark days for radio

Not impressed with censorship

Totally agree with the comments above especially the one about bringing in talent from the smaller stations/specialist. There are some really entertaining shows out there, and the presenters should have the feeling that the better they do the better station/slot they get moved to - for example the Breakfast show on 6 Music - whats next? Do they progress somewhere! Shaun Keaveney and George Lamb are all potential R1 DJ's and would liek to see them on Radio 1 once they have spent time perfecting their art elsewhere instead of bringing in personalities who flood the airwaves with shouts of GOOOOD MOOORNIING! when you least want to hear it!
