Music + Playlist thread

I know this is a rather broad topic but I was surprised there weren't any threads about music. Considering that we're always discussing radio so I thought I'd start this. But to make it a little more Radio 1 orientated feel free to discuss the playlist aswell.

So To Get The Ball Rolling:

- I'm very happy that the Professor Green Ft Example song Monster has been added to the playlist

- I cannot wait for the Hurts album which is out on Monday

- Who are people backing for the Mercury Music Prize, perrsonally I love the Foals album

Monster - Pro Green is amazing.

I am actually in love with him. Have the album. Just Be Good To Green and I Need You Tonight are AMAZING, I know all the lyrics to them..

People should also check out his old stuff too, and him freestyling.

Might have to check out that Hurts album. Love Wonderful Life!

I'm really liking The Script, at the moment. For The First Time is awesome.

OMASM. Radio presenters are like fruit. Matt is my kumquat and Scott is blatantly my orange.

I know. And what's with the S. African accent, booted in towards the end. No reason or anything.

Apart from the fact that Die Antwoord are hip hop artists from South Africa?

I'm not particularly bothered either way by this song.

'To disagree with three-fourths of the British public is one of the first requisites of sanity'.

I love Enter The Ninja. (: Amaaaazing. Reminds me of The Midnight Beast and their song, Ninjas. It actually has almost the same lyrics. I'm a ninja! (although TMB's version contains swearing in that part.)

I have had that song stuck in my head all day, even after listening to songs on Last.fm for 1/2 hour :(

First heard it on Dev's show. He said, either you really love it or you hate the song. Well, I like the rapping, but I can't stand the voice of the girl. It annoys me everytime I hear it. The accent makes it even worse!

Anyone seen the video? The first minute or so is quite good, but then it starts to repeat the same parts over and over again.

"I like Franziska. Sounds mad as a box of frogs, but we like her." (Dev)

I saw a bit of it, but I got bored :(:D

Repeating is either a sign of cheapness, or that they couldn't be bothered thinking up new stuff for the video :D

    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
    • Just watched that advert and it made me realise quite how many 'big' specialist presenters there were back then
    • I've been reminded of this Radio 1 cinema advert. I remember being so excited to see it. The In New Music We Trust era. Everything felt so cool, even if they had Westwood.
    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
    • Wow, surprised he signed a new contract in September but it says a lot about Jordan that he continued to a very high standard throughout last summer/autumn if this was all going on in the background.
