New Newsbeat Imaging...

I know that 'Newsbeat's stuff is very clean when trading in the past!

Yeah, I was kinda joking. I trust you Newsbeat! You can't be too careful these days...loved the news jingles mix by the way- it's really interesting to hear the evolution of the jingles.

And it is strange to hear Dominic Byrne sound so posh.

Maybe that was just the way they were told to speak back in the day. Scott used to sound like it too on Power FM, if you've ever heard the clips, and Moyles too on Capital. I guess the tone's a lot more informal/chatty now.

Here's a tracklisting for the news mix. I didn't inclue '96 or '97, as these have previously been posted, and I didn't include 1998, as I don't have it, nor 2001, as I only have a short demo, which I promised not to send to other people/post online, so I couldn't put it in.

Come to think of it, all this discussion seems to be regarding R1 news imaging.

What do you think 1xtra versions will be like? I suppose they will have more 'whooshes and impacts' in the FX, have a stronger beat, and sound more 'urban'.

Only some of them have to have 1xtra versions though:

1. 2 x Main News Ident Themes (Radio 1 & 1Xtra Versions of

3.00 Minute Duration each)

2. 2 x Sports Ident Beds (Radio 1 & 1Xtra Versions of 3.00

Minute Duration each)

3. 1 Weather Ident Bed (For use on both Stations – 1.00 Minute

Duration)

4. 2 x News Out Stings (Radio 1 & 1Xtra Versions – This is a

short closing audio statement to end the news report)

5. 5 x News Breakers (Alternate Beds of different

pace/mood/genre - These are non station specific and could

be used on either network) – Each at 4.00 Minutes Duration

6. 2 x Entertainment News Ident Beds (Radio 1 & 1Xtra Versions

of 3.00 Minute Duration each)

Come to think of it, it's quite a challenge. For the alternative mixes of the additional 5 news beds, they must apply to both stations, this must be tricky.

Making 1xtra versions of main news and sport themes can't be that difficult.

Is it me, or does 1xtra news only have that 1 bed? So, each station will get:

x2 News In's

x2 Main News Beds (prob used during normal news reports)

x5 News beds with alt mixes (used for 12.45/5.45 and 1xtra 12/5 bulletins/)

x2 Sports Beds

x1 Weather Bed

x2 News Closers

x2 Entertainment news beds

Seems like it will be a fairly small package compared to 2007/9. They had around 40-50 cuts!

Certainly seems so. Although there will be alternate mixes of the further 5 news beds, plus 1xtra versions, but still seems they're going for a bargain.

I'm also pretty sure that Pure Tonic will make it. What other stuff would they be doing for R1 now? There isn't any other imaging work available

I really have no idea either - recently they posted on their facebook/twitter ''loving the sound of @radio1''. it makes me wonder what theyre going to put on their website. hopefully it will come soon. in a way im really pleased that pure tonic will be doing it, as they're good at adding it all to the website. hopefully.

I tried emailing them, didn't get a response. They're up to something though. New newsbeat imaging must be done by Friday!

They normally nitroduce stuff at weekends, so maybe Saturday 4th September?

Agree - looking forward to seeing what they're doing. But its got to be something though and i'll be really pleased / hoping that they'll put the cuts on their website. They tend to be quite quick at adding stuff to their site, though.

One thing that I've just thought of, is what do you lot think of the current Newsbeat package? Do you think it needs changing?

I really like it, and I don't really think it needs changing. I think they could have easily kept it and changed it in the new year...

I can't remember exactly who said it, (prob someone from 1xtra I think??) but Matt Fincham has sent me this:

You're remarkably clued up about the new news jingles - as far as I'm aware they won't roll out for a couple of weeks yet!
