2010 schedule changes

As we're probably just over a month away from finding out if there are any schedule changes this year who do you think will be in/out or moved this time round?

Weekday I think will be same as maybe a slight change in specialist shows but nothing major

Jo Whiley will probably be off, Edith or Matt Edmondson will get weekend breakfast and other will get Jo Whiley's slot.

I'd like to see a slimmed down Chris Moyles show e.g. just Chris and Dave or Dave + someone else to be weekend cover (for breakfast/Vernon/Sara) as Chappers and Dave and hearing Chris and Dave last Sat afternoon was class!

That stupid SackChrisMoyles bint on Twitter seems to think she has orchestrated a move to Breakfast for someone else... delusional? I think the main changes will be to the afternoon show and maybe a change of length/time for Fearne's show?

Next year's changes might be slightly more interesting. Scott's contract is running out, Moyles will probably get a year-long contract this year and might also go next year; they will probably send Edith and Jo away if they don't already do it this year. The Deacon/Edmondson era is starting. Radio 2, here I come. Or someone better save 6music...

Aren't really that impressed by the new era: Dev, Matt Edmonson are ok but time will tell, Tom Deacon is probably good for a 12-16 year old audience but hopefully he'll stay there.

It would be great to see Annie Mac take over from Fearne Cotton but that's not going to happen this early and taking over from Jo Whiley instead of doing Switch wouldn't be that much of a promotion and she probably wouldn't want it. Basically there won't be a big shake up this time round like last year, Moyles, Fearne, Greg, Scott, Zane and Nick Grimshaw will all stay where they and they'll make a couple of changes to the weekend with Jo probably leaving.

I know it wont happen, but I would love it if Annie Mac or preferably Sara Cox replaced Fearne. Fearne is OK but 10-1 with her is a bit of a non event.

In reality I agree with others here in that weekdays will stay the same with it possible Jo might get the bullet at weekends, which would be a shame in my opinion- especially as they would only replace her with a non-entity like Edmondson or Deacon.

I don't think Jo will go yet, and to be honest I've changed my mind and hope she doesn't. It was 100% the right decsision for her to be moved / move on from weekdays, but she is fine in her weekday show, and still appeals to the right target audience for me. I would hope Radio 1 have more respect for her than to move her on just yet.

Edith however, I'm not sure. I don't believe she's truly happy on weekend breakfast, I think she might leave rather than do another year of that. Aside from that I think we'll see a regular slot for Matt Edmonson obviously, and from the way Coxy is talking it appears she'll stay.

If I was going to make a prediction here and now, I'd say as this there was such a radical change last year I think things will stay as they are with the exception of Matt Edmonson in for Edith who will leave. Unless Moyles leaves breakfast (which I don't think he will) then I think there would be a big switch around.

Well, I Don't think the big four daytime slots (Chris, Fearne, Greg and Mills) will change. I don't think Deacon is going anywhere as he only just arrived at 7.00 on switch. I'm still not sure about them splitting the 10.00-1.00 slot but I don't think Vernon is going anywhere as he is, according to the advert, going to his favourite dance festival. The same advert said that Fearne and Jo are doing Reading + Leeds hence if the schedule change is in July and she will be doing the festival in August then surely she will still have a show going and I really hope so, whilst coxy is on maternity leave, Jo has been my favourite show over the weekend. I hope Vernon goes and Matt takes over or coxy gets both slots. Whether Edith will still be here after the changes i'm still unsure.

As with other post I dont see any major changes this year - last years changes are still to fresh!

I cant even see any specialist changes happening. To be honest any that do happen will be down to the presenters deciding to leave rather than Radio 1 changing things around.

2 things I could see happening though are Edith at Weekends going - her presence has kind of disappeared from the station and this slot is needed to properly test out the new comers Matt Edmondson/Tom Deacon etc. Or maybe Coxy will take it on her return and MAtt E will keep sunday mornings. Also, could Fearne get a sidekick - someone to liven up her show a bit make it more of an event? If not something will change with her show as it kind of fades into the background - you dont tune in for it!

    • Less so with 5 Live. But with Nihal, Nicky Campbell and Mark Chapman get what you are saying.6 Music does have that with Huw Stephens, Mary Anne Hobbs, Gilles Peterson, Marc Riley and Mark Radcliffe
    • Agreed, Martha seems to quietly taken over as host of the Tuesday Bass and Big Beats show that Annie Nightingale did would be good to have some promotion to be done for her show. Agreed with this on bank holidays on a Radio 1 dance day inpaticular would be quite good to have Sarah Storey, Jaguar, Jeremiah Asiamah, Charlie Tee and Martha presenting. I always felt that in Christmas and New Year previously having Victoria Jane to do a Future Soul take over playlist.
    • To be fair to him, this week and next week he’s on his podcast tour which was arranged well before he started on R1. After that I would guess he’ll start being on everyday?
    • It’s Jamie’s dream of a lifetime to be a full time Radio 1 presenter apparently, but he can only do it 2 or 3 days a week.
    • Radio 1 generation meaning??  Today's 10-30 yr-olds? I doubt it. They'll still know Pete Tong though, because he is rhyming slang!
    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock. 6th May schedule has updated to show that the Radio 1 Big Weekend Shows will now be the following: 6am-10am 10am-2pm 2pm-6pm 6pm-8pm Still no presenters listed.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
