What's the big deal about moyles?

Why the big deal? It is a bit of a disaster if they cannot manage to organise themselves on Monday. They get paid enough to have a back up plan. Chris Moyles isn't the only one stuck abroad but from the sounds of the message boards and Twitter it sounds like he is.

Why does the whole of radio 1 have to revolve around chris moyles being stuck away? Wouldn't someone normally replace him if there's three members of a team ready to work?

They have. Regular breakfast presenter Scott Mills is filling in. What more do you expect?

If you follow other, none R1 related people on Twitter you'll see Chris Moyes related discussion is tiny compared to other topics.

It doesn't. They have a back up plan, they have put said back up plan in to place.

Yes, Vernon Kay. He may be unavailable or there may be too many team members unable to work for the show to work properly. If this is the case rather than do a half assed thrown together show they have replaced the show with the noromal breakfast fill in presenter. What's your problem?

I think it'd have been easier to have used Vernon if Dave and Aled are around but I assume he was unavailable.

I do agree but it's short notice and he has a lot of stuff on at the moment, still filming The Whole 19 Yards I think but could be wrong. We may well hear him on Tuesday if Chris still can't get back.

Do you have regular back up plans to get to work in the event of a volcano erupting in another country?

As Radio 1 is a nice big National station, it will obviously have emergency procedures in place in case of such an occurrence like this. And since a back up plan has been implemented very quickly, I can hardly see any problems, apart from the usual hiccups when things can't go quite to plan.

I'm glad they didnt. I may be in a minority but I find Vernon mind numbingly boring as a radio presenter, whether hes doing his own show or sitting in for others. The 'maths question' feature on Sat mornings is about as entertaining as, to use my favourite comparison, radio ventriloquism. Hes much better on TV.

I don't think anyone can really be justified in getting pissed off by all this, its not as if anybody could have seen it coming. I trust Chris was booked on a flight that would have given him the right amount of time he felt necessary to get back from the US and get ready to go back on air, but as soon as the air space is closed there is/was nothing that could have been done.

If half of the "main body" of the show are abroad (Chris and Dom) then the show wouldn't feel right. Especially as Tina doesnt seem to have a great deal of input and as far as I remember, Dave doesnt know how to drive the desk so would need someone there pushing the buttons for him.

If the BBC are trying to get Chris a studio in the US to broadcast from, it shows they are getting their finger out and trying to get a sense of normality to the schedule. In the meantime, lets just enjoy the people we have on air. Its nice to get a bit more Scott in the morning (or Vernon if he ends up filling Chris's shoes), We don't normally get Huw on daytime so that makes a nice change, and its good to hear Greg on drive instead of his usual slot.

Its good. In fact, if they hadnt said anything I would have thought they were all in the London studio! Glad Scotts back in his usual slot too. :)

After helping Westwood clean the Thames! Poor thing. I agree though, it will be nice to have him back at 4. Sad to lose Huw - he did an excellent job.

Top show this morning. Well done to everyone for organising it all.

Can't believe Chris isn't hanging about to meet Ahmed Ahmed later. He's pretty funny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuAgHsAP8dE

Well, he's their biggest DJ...... I miss him being in the Studio (as normal) in London. I was a little bored by this morning's show, but things were well handled despite the crisis, time differences, etc., etc.

I have to say though.... it does get a little tedious when an almighty deal is made out of the one person. In that, I agree with you!!

That is funny. Never heard of that guy before today! And how cheap and tacky is that sign behind him!?

Great show this morning. Very well done Aled and Chris and everyone involved to getting it together. The odd glitch was to be expected, but it only made for more entertaining listening! 10/10!

Surprisingly understated and non-shouty for an American Comedian, I thought by the titles of vids at the side that it would be an Achmed the Dead Terrorist sketch...

Didn't hear the show sadly, but just heard a highlight thing on Fearne's show and I'm surprised they managed to get both Dom and Chris on remotely.

Listening to today's show on iplayers, wouldn't say I'm bored by Chris being in NY, it doesn't really make much difference apart from him going on about where he is, but you have to repeat yourself if your on at that time as people are tuning in all the time.

    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
    • Wow, surprised he signed a new contract in September but it says a lot about Jordan that he continued to a very high standard throughout last summer/autumn if this was all going on in the background.
    • They knew Roman wanted to leave early last year but wasn't officially announced but he gave them time to sort replacement. Found and offered Jordan a deal in June or July and needed time to get Jordan out of Contract at bbc and roman to do notice  Jordan had dinner with Katie Vick and Arielle to ask advice and all said he should go.
    • And they told Radio 4’s Feedback that it was an ‘experiment’ to ‘look at the best way to serve young listeners’ but reaffirmed that 280 hours commitment.
    • I doubt he wanted to go to Global if a slot before he found out kemp was leaving.
    • We're hoping to get some answers in the coming weeks
    • From what he's saying on the Pod he's been trying to get out of r1 for a while. Looks like he needed to wait for a show on global to be available. Jordan had bbq last summer with most of thr global execs and he's referenced the deal was in place then. Obviously the hold up was r1 being stubborn
    • All seems to be back to normal this morning.
    • Indeed and Jordan was already friends with Sian Welby, Will Manning and Jimmy Hill.
    • It's great to see those friendships still thriving. I think the days of Radio 1 DJs and Capital DJs being unable to co-exist is long over. You used to either be firmly BBC or commercial, and you don't get the sense that's the case anymore.
    • Maia Beth will be presenting the Radio 1 Happy shows from the 27th April replacing Katie.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001ydkr
    • Vick and Jordan together on Insta (with Ariel’s) in Ibiza. You do imagine Jordan’s ex colleagues have a very different attitude to him than management. Comments on Help! And very subtle comments on Capital Breakfast suggest Jordan was frustrated with Radio 1 / BBC management.
    • I can name quite a few people on this forum who would be better presenters than Danny.
    • His NYE shows were very good. Only thing I would say is he was shackled down slightly there. During his peak he played some great trance stuff in the late 90s and early 00s. So if he were to do a regular show that would have to feature more. Aside from I'd love to see him back.
