Grimmy sometimes covers daytime shows, but not alot cos he's off loads as well...

He's not off that much to be fair, but a national station the size of Radio 1 should not be having its presenters presenting 2 shows a day. Grimmy theoretically shouldn't be covering a show on Monday - Thursday or Sunday.

why would Jo and Edith go back and cover for daytime shows? Surely thats a bit too much to ask of them.

But it does leave daytime cover very thin, and not necessarily a good advert for the station.

A point proved by the fact that Dev is in for Greg James for 1 week from 15th March. Presumably someone from 1Xtra will cover the Early Breakfast Show.

Is he because according to the Radio Times Greg is still in as normal as is Dev

Presumably someone from 1Xtra will cover the Early Breakfast Show.

I stand corrected on this matter - Matt Edmondson is used as cover (after not doing a show since he joined, he gets 6 in 6 days)

Matt Edmondson sits in for Dev with the best new and UK music.

I'm surprised Nihal isnt covering much these days. I know he only does a few hours a week for the station now but some of us quite liked him when he was doing more.

Was the day in question when both Greg and Scott were off not a bit of a once in a blue moon situation anyway?

Does anyone know the answer to this question regarding cover..

Suppose Chris is off ill or for personal reasons at exceptionally short notice, what would happen then? I'm intrigued because we've had Vern cover for him, and an excellent job of covering he does, but Scott and co are the replacements for holidays so would it be the same for the likes of illness? or would we have, as I believe we've had on times where he's been late, Dave fronting the show with either Rachael or Aled driving the desk?

I really enjoy listening to Huw covering for Scott but I'm not a fan of Dev. He seems like a nice enough guy but I find his shows a bit flat.

He's a nice guy and he really does seem to try his best, but unfortunately his shows can be a bit flat at times, although I find this is the case with the other 1 Xtra presenters I've heard on R1 (max, twin b, ronnie herrel) doing that particular show

Not impressed with censorship

Edith was covering for Grimmy last night and said she will be covering for him for a fortnight in April.

Its like something out of Alice in wonderland...totally random and illogical, Edith leaves daytime to go to weekends, then covers evenings so Grimmy can cover for daytime...And Dev pops up in the afternoon, sounding totally amateur and inexperinced!

To be fair, its way too early to bring back Bowman (or Whiley) to the weekday schedule for cover and i think even if its not a little bit akward, it might confuse some listeners who don't know the Radio 1 weekday lineup as well as others.

Not that there going to want to go back to their old show times which is why Edith covers for Nick when he is brought into the daylight...

à thought Dick and Dom were better - Annoying and crude on TV but quite entertaining on the radio. Shame they had to leave. Drugs, wasn't it?

I also enjoyed Dick and Dom, but no they didn't leave because of drugs! The story in the papers was a minor one, Dick took drugs in his youth but has long been clean. According to them they left due to increasing television commitments, that didn't quite add up for me though.

and let me guess... they haven't been seen on TV since, even though BBC seemed to be grooming them to become the new Ant and Dec... amIrightamI?

    • Radio 1 generation meaning??  Today's 10-30 yr-olds? I doubt it. They'll still know Pete Tong though, because he is rhyming slang!
    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock. 6th May schedule has updated to show that the Radio 1 Big Weekend Shows will now be the following: 6am-10am 10am-2pm 2pm-6pm 6pm-8pm Still no presenters listed.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
    • Just watched that advert and it made me realise quite how many 'big' specialist presenters there were back then
    • I've been reminded of this Radio 1 cinema advert. I remember being so excited to see it. The In New Music We Trust era. Everything felt so cool, even if they had Westwood.
    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
