It's a long time since I heard this sort of topical humour on Radio 1 - which is a bit sad really.

I am absolutely fed up with Radio 1 editing down and cutting short songs I haven't heard for a long time. It was all noughties this Bank Holiday Monday and they ruined my bank holiday yet again for me by cutting many of the songs. What they are doing is vile and is beyond me. It's basically every day I hear a good throwback played on Radio 1 only for it to be shortened. This makes me extremely angry and ruining my life. It makes me so angry that I sometimes disturb my neighbours and then they come moaning at me. This also happens when I am driving and makes me so angry that I slam my car in the wrong gear out of shear frustration. This is dangerous. My car may end up broken at this rate. No one seems to give a flying toss these days.
Imagine being in a restaurant enjoying a big burger. Then an idiot suddenly comes along while you're halfway through it and snatches it off you and chucks it in the bin with no explanation. That's how it makes me feel when they cut short my favourite songs. The BBC MUST stop this song cutting on Radio 1 now otherwise be sued. They are vile scumbags for doing this all the time. It's the curse of 2016 when this really started. They never did song cutting on this scale before then so it's over 6 years thus has been going on for so far. I want the radio on to keep me company but this song cutting drives me balmy. It's not that they don't have the full version on their system because full songs are always played on the 10 Minute Takeover on Greg James's show.
So it's something like every hour they will play a haven't heard it for a while song only for a big chunk to be cut out of it. And as for Radio 1 Anthems... It's the most torturous radio show I have ever heard so I avoid that omnishambles like the plague. They are just vile and don't give a flying toss.

My worry is that putting together a new duo on air for a weekday daytime slot is always a risk. I agree that Dean works well with a co presenter to bounce off. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I can't help but think maybe if Vicky had been on with Dean on weekends, then it wouldn't be as much of a surprising choice of replacement for Scott & Chris. As you say, Dean & Katie have covered the 1pm slot a few times. The whole relocating shows to Salford has played a big part in who they chose. It'll be interesting to see how they get on, as it's a quick rise to weekdays for Dean (a year), and even more so for Vicky (first permanent show on the station)

Jordan is definitely at his best off script and when he's just talking to the listeners.
Dean is like the radio equivalent of Love Island for me. It's never appealed to me and I don't think I'll ever get it.
Funnily enough there was a couple of years a while back where every daytime presenter would talk about what happened on Love Island last night. Would drive me mad ?

Personal favourites are Sarah Story’s show and I personally like having a Power Down Playlist at 10pm even if its pre-recorded. I think Radio 1 is in a good place with its specialist output at the moment.
For me personally I think a lot of the daytime changes simply haven’t wowed me because they followed presenters or shows I really liked and felt worked, which makes Radio 1 feel like its gone down a notch in quality in the last few years without meaning to sound too harsh! Dean and Vicky taking over Scott and Chris will no doubt add to that feeling in the coming weeks

I always felt like Phil Taggart was overlooked for a bigger show. Just his luck that a whole station based around his show launched shortly after he left. Sian has done pretty well taking over from him.
Biggest miss in Annie on a Friday night. Danny Howard was the natural choice to fit into the role and he does it well, but he doesn't have the same energy that she did.
RMC doesn't work on daytime radio. They were brought in to take over from Charlie Sloth. Charlie is great on Dance Anthems, and seems a lovely person.

As others have said, I think this has been the perfect last week of shows.
Greg hosting the final Innuendo Bingo was spot on.  Having Chappers and Beccy back was such a nice touch. The montages were fantastic. The tone has been spot on. Joe from the musical was fantastic.
For the best one, for me it’s tied between Scott’s final link - the sincerity and emotion, peppered with humour was on another level. And, Chris’ final Tap End, I thought it was totally fitting and really on brand for Chris - funny, edgy, and honest.
It will all take something huge to better it. From the time they announced they were leaving, we had them take over breakfast, then some time in Newquay, then the wrapping up of their features, followed by a week of nostalgia and emotion. What a way to leave on a high.

The cut-off for the cards is now here, but we'll be making this thread public later this week, and will make sure Scott and Chris see all the messages! We filled the two insides of the card, the back, and an insert, so thanks everyone

Super gutted that Scott & Chris are leaving... but remember the old days when it was Scott & Beccy, or Laura, or Chappers?
Feels like a good time to share some favourite moments of previous Mills co-hosts/producers.
I'll start... Laura sitting down in the middle of a supermarket eating stuff she'd just pulled off the shelves.
Or Chappers being the "Your Call" on hold machine.

BBCAaron reacted to Jeffrey in Can't download the old podcasts by month (only individually)... Help please?
    Hi All:
I'm hoping someone can help guide me. Now that Scott has announced that he is leaving, I was thinking of listening to the podcasts from the beginning of the show in order (and also downloading these podcasts in case Jono ever decides to end the website).
When I go to download the old podcasts however, it seems as if I need to download each one individually. I thought you could download them by month. On my Macbook, I've tried Safari and Chrome browsers with the same result. Any ideas or suggestions? Does it work better on a Windows machine?
    Thanks,

    Jeff

BBCAaron reacted to xxladybarefootxx in Dean is so unpopular, no other DJs have congratulated
There could be lots of reasons for people not publicly posting, as others above have mentioned. But, as with anyone anywhere starting a new job, I hope Dean and Vicky will be welcomed, just like I wish Scott to be welcomed by his R2 colleagues and Chris to be welcomed by his Capital colleagues. The decision was made by the bosses not by the other presenters (I assume).
I'm sure Dean & Vicky fans are thrilled to have them on in the afternoons. It won't make much of a difference to me as I'm looking forward to following what Scott and Chris do next, as much as I'm going to miss having them on together.

Yes evidence of Greg James or Katie Thistleton disliking or hating on Dean McCullough is no more than conspiracy and fabricating reality. We don’t know what is says off air and off twitter. Lesson is don’t read into things that much

Guys, give the guy a break. I saw some of you in the chat talking how Radio 2 listeners don’t want change and complaining about Scott taking Steve’s show. But you’re doing exactly the same.
Yes, Dean is different from Scott and Chris. But Scott is also different from Steve Wright. What radio stations are trying to do from time to time is to change things a bit and experiment. And that exactly what’s happening in both Radio 1 and 2.
Everybody wins in current situation. Radio 1 gets to try new things and fresh talent in afternoon slot, Katie is getting a permanent slot and Matt and Mollie still hosts a big show and get to cover Breakfast.

My current practice is to listen to Scott M on R1 2pm-3pm, then Steve W on R2 3pm-4pm, so I'll just give that a slight tweak when the time comes, for whoever is gonna be on R1 at 2pm ...
Fingers crossed the same quota of entertaining (albeit, different) features will be used, throughout ...
The one thing I certainly won't miss about Mr Wright is his continual breaking of one of Radio's most sacred principles - that you don't pass off pre-recorded stuff as live. Heck, even the studio 'applause' which greets the pre-recorded guest was itself pre-recorded, years ago!
The trained ear can of course spot when this happens, but, for casual listeners, he is gulling them into thinking that he is a much smoother, wittier operator than he actually is (all the glitches having been ironed out already).  All he ever had to say was something like 'I spoke to [celebrity] earlier, and here's what they said' - Not (straight out of record): 'It's [celebrity], everyone!' - There is just something fundamentally dishonest about that ...
