  1. OJ Borg is in for Vernon Kay this Friday (26th January). I think this might be the first time he's sat in on mid mornings.

Also on Friday, Gaby Roslin sits in for Scott Mills

Paddy McGuiness sits in for Rylan on Saturday 10th February.

Nicki Chapman sits in for Zoe Ball on the breakfast show for a week starting Monday 12th February.

I see the schedule has been updated for this week's show and is now listed under 'Martha'...

Does anyone know much about her? What's her surname? How did she become associated with the show? I'm a bit naive on the specialist output at these sort of hours!

It was mentioned that she is/was Annie's producer and friend when the tribute show to Annie aired last week. She's sat in for her a few times over the past year or so by the looks of it.

Very nice words and it is good that the tone has remained upbeat as that's exactly what she would have wanted.

It would be nice if they did a tribute show in the next week.

Hopefully. I imagine Radio 2 may well dig deep into the archive as well and air something in tribute. Lovely tribute from Scott on his show just as well.

  4. I agree on Greg. As much as i still enjoy listening, 6 years is a good run on the Radio 1 breakfast show and I think Jordan's ready to take it on. Leave it another year and I think they'd actually bypass him like they did with Scott. Katie will move up to weekdays full time, either with Jordan on breakfast, or on drivetime (with or without Vick). Nat 'Leary gaining Friday and Saturday will more than likely happen.

I think RMC and Matt & Mollie are safe where they are for now. It's a shame that M&M never made it to weekdays, but they're one of the stronger shows on the network, unless one of them decides they want to move on, I see no need to move them on (yet).

Be very good if Liam Gallagher gets Number 1 today gives the chart a different feel and with Murder on the dancefloor doing so well aswell

I think it's unlikely it'll get to no.1 today, although it'll likely stay top 15 (it was at 9 midweek), which is still impressive in this day and age.

  6. The first chart of the year often is due to how the chart rules work nowadays. Murder On the Dancefloor is having a 'Kate Bush' moment like Running Up That Hill did with stranger things.

Although difference being, Sophie Ellis Bextor doesn't sound as out of place when played as her songs (in particular Murder On the Dancefloor) have had airplay on occasion in recent years on stuff like 10 minute takeover and anthems.

  7. Paddy O'Connell in for Rob Beckett on Sunday 7th January.

Edith Bowman sits in for Jo Whiley next week (from Monday 8th January).

Rick Astley sits in for Gary Davies on Sounds Of the 80s on Saturday 13th and 20th January

Jason Mohammad sits in for Owain Wynn Evans on Monday 15th January, with Wynne Evans doing the same on Tuesday 23rd January.

DJ Spoony sits in for Trevor Nelson W/C 22nd January.

    Oooh good topic!

I’ve voted for ‘Going Home’ and ‘Matt and Mollie.’ I think both of those shows sound very fresh, always absolutely full of content and both duos bounce off each other very well (and I’ll include Katie in Going Home too since she’s a big part of it).

I think Greg is still sounding great, but maybe coming towards the end of his time on breakfast, same with Arielle on early breakfast too - is a very good presenter but how long will she really want to keep doing early starts for.

I’d say RMC is the most improved show of the year, having listened more in the last few weeks, it now has some new features, it seems like they get more time to talk in the links and altogether it just feels a bit less rushed and more what I would have expected their show to be like from the beginning.

Dean and Vicky I very rarely listen to now - I don’t think they’re an awful pairing but they don’t gel together particularly well and I think it’s quite telling when I prefer Vicky with any other co-host and Dean presenting on his own. I also think the production and features on the show feels quite cheap, especially coming after Scott Mills.

I think weekends are pretty solid though, at the moment I wouldn’t change any of the presenters there. Katie (and Matt and Mollie) deserve promotions at some point, when and where they will come from, I’m not sure.

Sadly, I think Matt & Mollie's time for promotion has come and gone which is a shame. Listening to them over the weekend made me think it's a shame they're stuck on weekends. They even seem to be increasingly moving away from using them (at least together) as breakfast cover.

Shame always loved Mills over christmas period on the radio

Same. I miss all the little show traditions he did on Radio 1. Perfect Christmas Single, Magnus Carlson Wrap Myself In Paper, (which he still plays on R2) Scott & Chris' presents to each other, Whooovent calendar, Dial a Carol, and of course playing the first Christmas song of the year in September. I can't remember if he did the Dial A Carol thing last year or not.

When is Scott's last show of the year?

Next Thursday. Gaby Roslin is in next Friday, Rylan the following week, then Owain Wynn Evans for two weeks. He won't be back till the 7th January (apart from the pre recorded Best Madonna song countdown on NYD).

I think that's a glimmer into what could happen in 2024 with some names. I have to be honest and say I found Joel Mitchell quite flat on early breakfast and a bit old hat local radio with content like name things that don't have a name like your hover. It's like come on. Good to see some other voices getting a turn again that haven't been on recently, I think Conor did one of the christmas shows and Shanequa was good.

My predicition, I think next year is the year they promote James after this year and the prime slot on NYE. He's covered a range of shows and could slot in to the R1 family tomorrow. He actually does always remind me of a northern scott and jordan hybrid, a very entertaining listen not to mention one up on global if they took him away.

They would then need some of the above names to cover more.

I agree that James is a good listen, but there's no guarantee he'd be offered a permanent slot should one become available. There has been so much change in pretty much every slot in the past few years that I'd like to see a few years of stability.. rather than a constant merry go round of changes. Any change next year I think will be triggered by either Matt or Greg deciding to leave the station.

It's a shame those pre mixed 'Anthems' blocks are still in place over Christmas. I used to like it when they had themed days where they still had plenty of chance to talk between the songs.

  13. Gaby Roslin is in for Scott on Friday 15th December,

    Christmas Day on Radio 2:

    6-8am Zoe Ball's Christmas Crooners

    8-10am Good Morning Christmas

    12-2pm Christmas with Jane Mcdonald

    2-5pm Gary Davies

5-8pm Pick Of The Pops Christmas Special

8-10pm Beverly Knight's Great British Gospel Christmas

    10-11pm Cilla at the BBC

I wonder if Scott is off till 7th January? As that’s when he’s in panto till.

More than likely. Like the Radio 1 schedule, the Radio 2 schedule is starting to update to show up to Christmas Eve and the Christmas limbo week.

    Saturday 23rd December:

Gaby Roslin in for Dermot O' Leary

Alex Jones in for Claudia Winkleman

Driving Home for Christmas with Richie Anderson from 3-6pm

Sophie Ellis Bextor's Kitchen Disco is on between 6 & 8pm

    Boxing Day

    Phill Williams on overnight

Wynne Evans in for Owain Wynn Evans

Nicki Chapman sits in for Zoe Ball on breakfast

Gary Davies in for Vernon Kay

Owain Wynn Evans in for Scott Mills

Gaby Roslin in for Sara Cox

27th onwards the same except 12-2 is Tina Daheley in for Jeremy Vine.

  15. Monday 11th December

Sam Quek in for Phill Williams on the overnight show (I assume first time she's broadcast on R2)

Nicki Chapman in for Zoe Ball on breakfast.

Wynn Evans in for Owain on early breakfast all week.

    W/C Mon 18th December

    Gary Davies in for Vernon

Interestingly, Rylan is in for Scott that week. It's been a few years since he covered a show. I recall he did a week covering breakfast a few years back.

Wait, is 82Mills one of the big ones in the Live Lounge? I forgot, but if so that's luxurious to him.

Yes, it's the studio the Radio 1 breakfast show comes from, and Scott's old Radio 1 afternoon show also came from.

They named it '82Mills' on the day he left Radio 1, so I suppose it's quite nice that he now gets to broadcast from it again on Radio 2.
