  1. I wonder who Scott's main cover will be this year as well? I enjoyed hearing Mark Goodier over Christmas, and although it was slightly stripped back to Scott's usual show.. the 3rd week he did into January was a full blown breakfast show with Scott's features and guests which i think he handled quite well. I know they started using Sara Cox for breakfast cover, but with the amount of times she's was off with her own holiday and other projects.. she ended up spending a fair bit of time off teatime, which isn't ideal. Mark covering isn't as disruptive to the schedule.

It’s a shame that Phil Williams seems to have fallen out of favour, first losing his slot to Richie and now not seeming to be primary cover. I MUCH preferred his Monday morning slot to Richie now and I think he’s a very decent listen covering for OJ

I agree. I was under the impression he would cover all of OJ's holiday and when he's on daytimes, but Connor (who has his own weekday show on BBC Radio Ulster, and does regular cover on 5live) seems to do the majority now.

On the subject of OJ, I wouldn't wish to lose Sara Cox, but he's really good when he sits in at teatime. He makes the show his own with his own features (a few of them exclusive to when he covers teatime), so i was glad when he started covering again recently as he had fell out of favour a bit first to Ellie Taylor, then Spoony.

I wonder if Ellie Taylor will pop up again? I noticed she was present in the pictures from the presenter gathering they had not long back, despite the fact she hadn't been used for any cover in a while.

  3. As for the the future... hopefully a bit of stability is brought to Going Home. It just feels like it's still in a temporary limbo post Jordan... two years on.

It's good having a stable period for a while. Greg is sounding better than ever so I wouldn't mind him going on for a few more years. Mid mornings will probably get a refresh eventually, but for now RMC sound fine (i do think they've been wasted in the Live Lounge slot a bit, but i doubt they're going to move to another slot at this stage).

Matt & Mollie are great, I don't think many would disagree. I think they will potentially be on afternoons for a few years now. They were wasted on weekend afternoons for too long.

As for any potential future moves. I think Sam & Danni are future breakfast hosts.. whether that's via a weekday daytime slot.. who knows 🤷. I think they're doing good job on weekend afternoons and doing a few more years there will help them build up to take a weekday slot in future.

I do enjoy James Cusack on weekend breakfast, and was happy when he got a permanent show, but realistically I'm not sure where else he could progress in the schedule (weekend afternoons maybe for a couple of years if Sam & Danni get to move up?).

I can definitely see Lauren Layfield getting a much bigger role in future. I don't think they signed her up to just do Life Hacks for her whole Radio 1 tenure.

Radio 1 are lucky that they now have so many go to cover presenters (some better than others) who they can potentially look at getting on board full time in future. The one person who should be at the front of the queue for getting a permansnt gig is Emil Franchi.

  4. There's regulary a lot of chat about potential changes in the future on here and other forums so I thought I'd start a thread for anyone to input their thoughts on current Radio 1 output, any potential changes in future etc.

As it stands.. I think the station overall is sounding good. Presenter wise, I think most people are in the right places. Going Home for me is the only let down on the schedule. It's not just the endless roulette of who's presenting with Katie, but i just don't think it's strong enough for what's meant to be the second biggest show on the network. One of the main features is 'Who's In The Box?'. When you compare it with content on the Breakfast Show and Matt & Mollie.. it's just nowhere near strong enough as a main feature. I know Jamie is apparently popular with the target audience, and he does seem a nice bloke but as well documented, he spends more time off air than he does on. For me personally, the strongest partnership i've heard on that show since Jordan quit is Katie and Emil.

  5. OJ Borg in for Sara Cox on Thursday 29th January, Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th February.

Jason Mohammad in for Owain for the week starting Monday 2nd February.

Michelle Visage in for Elaine Paige on Sunday 25th January and 1st February.

    Saturday 7th February:

Josh Widdicome in for Dermot O'Leary and Sophie Ellis Bextor in for Gary Davies on Sounds Of The 80s.

  6. Thanks for posting these! I've been looking for any clips/full shows from the late 90's and through the 00's and early 2010's. I found one a while back on Mixcloud from August 2000 with Clive Warren on weekend early breakfast into Mark Goodier on Saturday breakfast (which i believe was his last 'regular' show outside of chart and was replaced not long after leaving him with just the chart for his final 2 years)

  7. Spoony mentioned in passing earlier while doing a feature he does when covering Sara.. "next time I'm on". I'm assuming that means he'll be covering Teatime again at some point. I've enjoyed his cover over Christmas to be fair, but surely they won't have him continue as Trevor's cover (who he's covering in a few weeks) as well as being Sara's main stand in?

Ellie has also been extended to 4am. I guess they couldn’t find last minute cover so they’ve tried to minimise the amount of time over to repeats

Owain was listed for EB as usual, but i suppose with him being on live at 8pm tomorrow night with SOT90's NYE party, it would be quite a long day (especially as i assume it'll be coming from London).

Gary Davies is doing the double tomorrow, on mid morning in for Vernon, then back on between 6 and 8 with Sounds Of The 80s.

As it stands, he's on until Christmas Eve. First time in a few years. It's in Wycombe, where Vernon performed last year (or the year before). Vernon also did his show and panto for a week. A long day but it's doable now he's on in the morning

Mark Goodier is doing the breakfast show from Boxing Day up to Friday 2nd January, then Sara's on for the week starting 5th January, so Scott will be off for some of his panto run.

Mark is now doing breakfast on the week starting 5th January, with Sara on teatime as normal.
