  1. I think Steve Wright tops the list, at 39.
  2. Yes, but it has to end somewhere ...
  3. When is the last time it was tidy?!
  4. I usually enjoy the Jeremy Vine Show (switching over to R1 after 2pm news, as - whisper it - Scott isn't doing it for, on R2). He handles the mixture of light and serious talking points (plus musical interludes) skilfully enough. Vine also has a while to go before he matches Jimmy Young's tenure (and not everyone was too keen on him - but that's another story). If he absolutely had to be replaced, then someone should twist Nicky Campbell's arm .....
  5. I'd say it was a safe prediction that Vernon Kay's figures will drift upwards next time, and Ken Who?'s figures will drift down.
  6. If Charlie was persuaded to let her on in the first place, against her better judgment, then that does put things in a different light ...
  7. Just tracked back on this thread to hear the actual incident. Pretty entertaining radio, albeit in a way nobody would plan for. Weird shift of attitude from the host - it's all welcome fun until the moment that she gets criticised - then all of a sudden it's the worst thing in the world.
  8. Happy news - Riley & Coe is now easily the best late-night radio show out there, in the week - Last night's 'Tenuous Links' special was a particular treat ..
  9. Her absence is her main contribution towards the improvement of the show.
  10. I don't mind the fact that we can look it up for ourselves, per se ... It's more that phoney sense of suspense ('But who is No.2? etc ...) which is still used in the presentation of it. Far better just to throw in some interesting (i.e., not so well known) facts about the records ...
  11. The later Beerling years are always going to be uppermost in my affections - Fri: Pete Tong, Tommy Vance, John Peel Sat: Johnnie Walker, Alan Freeman, Andy Kershaw, John Peel
  12. The programme could always be shortened slightly (and/ or expand the Album Chart feature), to account for too much repetition ...
  13. I'd say it was an integral and iconic part of BBC Radio's offerings ... But then, I used to think that of the Classified Football Results.
  14. Yeah, I was using it as a point of comparison with Virgin - Also it cannot be repeated too many times how utterly ridiculous a 'No 21st Century' policy is .....
  15. One wonders if this site has played any part in that ...
  16. How about ... radio 1 pullover - Google Search
  17. Mills doesn't feel like a R2 presenter, full stop ... So might as well try everything.
  18. I'll mark it in my diary - Two listenable shows that evening ...
  19. ... Soddit, reading back through this, it occurs to me I've been persisting with the show for 2 years now - That's long enough - I'm sticking with Huw, on Radio Wales (Mollie's 'Future Pop' on Thurs still a good listen, though ...)
  20. Lamacq's 'Evening Session' run ended in Dec 2002, by all accounts. The slot itself passed through many hands before Mark Goodier, with perhaps Janice Long making the biggest mark on it, in the 80's. A quick glance at this Schedule archive site suggests it was "As Radio 2", up until 1979 ~ Schedule - BBC Programme Index
  21. I only ever tune in for the second hour - but yes, I can see how this would be jarring ... Again, what's most frustrating is that these are all easily fixable things - The content of the show (both the tracks played, and what Clara has to say about them) is fine - So why isn't it working as it should???
  22. Herein lies the problem. Straining too hard to whip up enthusiasm can have the opposite effect.
