  1. You have both presented together before your show on Capital. Have you spent time together as friends since, or is the reunion like getting to know one another all over again?

I’m a long time listener in my mid 30s and now outside the R1 target audience age… Chris is into barbecuing and Jordan is into air frying, have you both noticed a change in the other since the days of R1? And are you under any pressure to be on trend at Capital?

  2. Since Capital has a reputation for being very slick, I would be interested to hear your thoughts on how that is achieved and what it feels like to work to such a standard?

Considering you both worked at R1 before, what are the biggest differences in production between them and Capital?

Despite the ‘slickness’ on air, it sounds like you’re having a good laugh as mates, do you have to rein yourselves in at all, given how well you all know eachother?

  3. Fantastic 👏

loving the new breakfast show so far! Jordan, Chris and Sian are really natural together, but I won’t always be able to listen to the full show. Are there any plans for a podcast/best bits of the breakfast show for those of us who have fomo please?

  4. I listened back to this morning's show this afternoon, I thought it was sounding great.  Things are naturally comfortable between Jordan, Chris and Sian. Funny features and links.  The ads would probably start to grate after a while, but they weren't as jarring as I thought they would be, considering I've never listened to Capital for any lenght of time before really.

I agree about the weird track edits - some of them sound really off.  I do like that there's less dance music than R1 though, a good mix of older stuff too. I noticed they were chatting about young farmers and and Jordan and Chris both quipped that you don't have to be young to listen. Little dig at R1 I thought.

I will probably be sticking with Greg for the most part, but it's nice to have a more than decent alternative on days where R1 has an all day danceathon or something else I'm not keen on happening. I hope Jordan does really well there after the way he was taken off his R1 show. He's sounding at home so it's a good start.

  5. I wasn't able to listen this morning, I'll have to listen back as I'm interested to see what the chemistry was like between Jordan, Chris and Sian. And whether Jordan naturally slid into main presenter mode at a new station.

I just saw the clip of the marching band on Insta, and they really have gone all out for it. It was like a much bigger version of Greg's red arrows when he started his breakfast show.

The town crier was very much a Chris Stark classic I thought, and gave me flashbacks of all those sorts of things he did on Radio 1.

I am a huge fan of Greg, but given how much I miss the pairing of Scott and Chris, if Jordan and Chris turn out to be as good a duo I could be swayed. I wish there was a podcast!

Could Greg take time off his show?

I wouldn’t have thought it would be serious enough to take Greg off his show. At least I hope not. They have apologised, I’m sure there will be nothing more to it.

  7. The previous comments on Greg’s books have passed me by in that case. It does seem like a massive oversight on all parts to release a video agreeing how a glass eye can make a character more disgusting. However well intentioned it didn’t come across well I’m afraid.

  8. I remember seeing that video and the comment about the glass eye stood out to me like a sore thumb. I’m not one to be triggered on behalf of other people, but to use the word ‘disgusting’ to describe any physical characteristic can be pretty awful from the author of your fave book as a child.

The article makes it clear that it was the illustrator that suggested a glass eye, but I am firstly surprised that Chris and Greg went along with it and secondly that it didn’t get cut out of the video that was released.

  9. Moyles was my first, breakfast I think when I was in my early teens with my own radio in my room.

A bit later I remember listening to Scott (ladies bras era) in the car at drive time.

I took a total radio hiatus for a while, unintentionally, but then it was down to youtube getting me into innuendo bingo, leading to finding this site and downloading all of the scott mills podcasts, then the pandemic happening and working from home when I listened to live radio again in my 30s.

Scott, Chris (Stark), Greg and Grimmy got me back into live radio, and insights from fellow posters here have helped me understand the magic behind it all I suppose.

  10. No hate from me towards Danny, because I hadn’t heard of them before they started at R1 recently.

From what I have caught of their shows, I can’t say I’d be compelled to tune in, and it sounds to me like a presenter out of their depth. I totally get the Maya Jama comparison, and other celebrities, but Danny has been thrown in at the deep end alone, without a co-host. The other ‘celebs’ seem to have had more support from experienced R1 presenters (Mollie, Maya, Jamie)

Recently, to me it felt like R2 were chasing the ‘celeb’ presenters, and R1 were going down the ‘proper radio people’ route - then along come Jamie and Danny. (Again, no hate, because I have spoken in favour of Jamie on here numerous times).

I just don’t understand why they would throw a newbie out into such high profile slots without backup, a failing on R1 planning/management in my opinion.

I don't think they know what to do with Jamie. Some links they are desperate to switch off the mics and play a song.

I have to agree, I haven’t been listening every day, but I was today and it was messy… like they were trying to let him speak and then almost immediately trying to cut him off because what he was saying was either inappropriate or just not good radio… I had a feeling it wouldn’t work as a trio. I’m not Vick’s biggest fan, but she and Katie have good chemistry on air and I feel like the current dynamic is getting in the way of any good broadcasting that could be happening

Especially when you've got the likes of Matt, Greg, Katie etc. all travelling around with Mollie who could probably do some of the TV appearances- surely they could largely let her focus on the cycling and Radio 1.

Then again Mollie seems the sort of person who is generous with their time and happy to do these appearances.

You’re right there actually, it’s probably in Mollie’s nature to want to do those appearances. Just feels like she’s being pulled from all directions and I thought there must be someone to kind of step in and say there wasn’t enough time or energy to do both at the same time.

  13. Surely it’s not a good idea to keep her cycling this late in the day? The less rest she gets tonight the more difficult it would be tomorrow. Really feeling for her today.

It made me think, is it usual for the person doing the challenge to be doing the rounds in TV studios while the challenge is going on? So much cycling time has been used up by doing that, no wonder poor Mollie is behind schedule today. I can understand that it’s great exposure, but seems overkill, especially when she is already exhausted.

  14. Producer Chris has announced on socials this is his last week on Radio 1. It seemed like he and Greg have become genuine friends and I feel like the chemistry between them is the reason why we get such great content and chaos from the Breakfast show.

I can’t think of any specific examples off the top of my head, but Scott’s show seemed to have similar energy when Chris was his producer.

Sad to see him go, and I’m sure Greg will be feeling a little lost without him. I wonder who will replace him, and where he’s going?

  15. Judge Jamie - that would be carnage 🤣

I couldn't really listen today, when I switched on they were doing the something songs and it sounded like Katie and Vick were getting fed up with Jamie's interjections.... comments like 'lovely story Jamie, but let's hear what Listener's story is' (I forget the name of the listener, they used her name).

I was pleasantly surprised when I listened yesterday, but I do think to make this work long term is going to take a lot of work from all involved.

I think there is a lot of truth in this...if they let Katie dominate things a little, this has the potential to be ok.  The biggest problem for me today is it was almost like Vick and Katie with Jamie as the star guest and focus of attention.

I agree, this could be a success if Katie is the one steering the ship. It felt like she was at times today, getting things back on track when it was slipping, but your point about them treating Jamie as star guest is spot on.  My hunch is that they were being kind and trying to make him not feel like the outsider, given how often they have broadcast together. But they can't carry the show like that forever, hopefully it will settle to a point where everyone is comfortable with what they are doing

One plus I will give the show is playing the Mollie King Fajitagate clip. Always welcome - one of the all-time great Radio 1 clips

If any of the show need a content idea then an "official" chart of the best Radio 1 clips is one I can give for free.

Now this would be an all-time-favourite feature, I love it already! It could rival the Bamboleo 'gap', and even Innuendo Bingo. You need to send this to the BBC bods and see if they'll run with it!

  18. Oh I suppose I want to add to what I just said about not minding Jamie and being okay with him getting the drive slot - I would feel completely differently if it had been Katie joining Vick, with Jamie as the last minute third host.  If that had happened then I would feel annoyed at an unnecesary celebrity hire had been brought in - I hated the Maya Jama - Scott -Chris Friday situation when that was going on. I do think Jamie is better than Maya was though, in many ways.

  19. Maybe an unpopular opinion from me on this one - I didn't mind it. I quite like Jamie, I laughed out loud every time I listened to him when he was on with Matt, and the show today was quite entertaining. I'm not overly upset that he's posh or not really clued up on the opportunity he has been given - it's a job he's getting paid for, and someone decided to hire him, so that's not really his fault. He's not stuck up and he's able to laugh at himself, so he could do well if he knuckles down and at least tries to learn from the environment he is in.

My problem is that it was a bit crowded.  I love Katie so much, and she always has such lovely and funny stories to tell, I feel she was cut short in a lot of today's show. Which leads me to my second unpopular opinion - without Jordan there, I would have just preferred it to be Katie and Jamie.  I'm not the biggest fan of Vick. I have tried, but I find her too giggly and not always forthcoming with anything other than innuendo.  Personally, I can see why they brought Katie in last minute to save the dynamic, but as a trio I think there is too much going on.

Will have to see how it develops I suppose, but Vick on air admitted how the show has always had such a mixture of presenters because of everyone taking holidays, so it does make me wonder how often the 3 of them will be together anyway.
