Edit: It's changed again so Phill Williams is now listed on early breakfast for the rest of the week. Huw Stephens did yesterday and today (Monday and Tuesday)

I guess this is because they have no one else to cover on 6 Music? Huw had to double shift it today.

It feels so weird that everyone is saying they are being demoted and Dean is going to 5am and they are just carrying on the show as normal. It hasn't worked that's a given, I think the sooner its off afternoons the better.

What does everyone think the next move for Dean will be after earlies. Am I right in thinking Arielle has done them for years and is that what would be called overnights? Overs for us is up till 8am!

It's a shame there seems to be an obsession with shows coming from different places

I do wonder what the 4 month hold up is? Are they doing it out of respect for Dean, Vicky or Arielle to remain in their current slot? Are Matt & Mollie not available till then?

Huw Stephens in for Owain Wynn Evans on early breakfast this morning (11th March). Jason Mohammad is in the rest of the week.

Can't recall him covering on Radio 2 before? Is this his first time?

I am guessing this is more to do with the fact the show comes from Cardiff so has limited choice in last minute cover?

Greg has made no secret of his desire to get the record. I think he would reject all offers til he gets it and I also don't think he will take another radio show on any station after the breakfast show ends.

Is this actually true? I am not sure I have ever heard/read about Greg talking of beating Moyles's record?

Doesn't mean I don't think he could do it... I think Radio 1 will be desperate to keep his stability for a while yet, and with the news of his new contract he'll definitely beat Grimmy into second longest.

They made the decision because they had to get there before Capital to show they dropped Jordan and Jordan didn’t drop them

Well no, Jordan did drop Radio 1.

They probably wanted to announce someone at the same time so the headlines were 50/50 across Jordan leaving but also who’s replacing him.

  6. I truly believe this show only came about because of the pressures on BBC management to have a daytime show from outside of London.

They’ve done it for a bit, increased the weekend quota and are still retaining another slot on weekdays. But the pressure is no longer there & now they can make a programming decision based on Matt & Mollie bringing a better show along.

That podcast from the start of the year told us everything we needed to know about Vicky only being asked 2 days before the show was announced.

Agree it’s not a disaster as such, but this is the only time in recent memory that management have ended a show without talent calling time.

The more I think about this, the less I understand it.

Vick and Katie would be a good Going Home show without Jamie.

What did happen in the aftermath of Jordan leaving.  Did Katie initially turn it down and they persuaded her to change her mind?  Did they see the reaction to Jamie and see that they needed Katie to balance out the loss of Jordan?

Some odd chain of events has happened

From the way Katie has spoken about the opportunity on air and on her Instagram, I find it hard to believe she ever turned it down.

It really does feel to me like it was a decision after the backlash of Jamie. But this then raises questions about why they made that decision originally?

I agree though, I am baffled by all of this!

I'm sorry - it is virtually unlistenable. I had hoped for better when it was announced Katie was going to be a part of it.

It is incredibly Jamie dominated.  He just keeps talking randomly.

I don't think it helps that it is basically the same show as before so the Jordan shaped hole is obvious.

Yeah I agree. I wasn’t expecting the Tea roll call to remain.

Could they have also changed Something Songs into something else? As like you say, it just feels like it’s a poorer product of the show with Jordan

  9. I’m under the impression that this does happen with smaller local stations. Because the RAJAR area for them is so small, they usually weight certain demographics to ensure it’s an even spread.

If you can only speak to a handful of Men aged 25 but needed more, they’d just double the data they gave back.

I’m not sure this would necessarily be the case for a national station. As they will receive the data from every single diary handed out across the UK.

I'm thinking Race Across the World. He's mentioned before that he'd like to take part in that. That show films for about 8 weeks though, would Radio 2 give him that much time off?

The Celebrity series last year was only 4 weeks long, so this does seem possible!

  11. At Home episode has dropped in the last hour.

Katie confirms she was asked to join the show while on her holiday the week before last (so after Jamie was announced).

Jamie also didn’t know the show was the second biggest on the station, what time it started or the concept of RAJAR….

Does it say anywhere that the weekend show is still tba? James Cusack will no doubt have a part to play in the changes be that weekend afternoons which he's sounds excellent on, or in weekend breakfast if Sam and Danni moved up to afternoons

    From the BBC Press Release:

"....and an announcement will be made soon with details of Matt and Mollie’s current schedule time (13:00 – 16:00, Friday-Sunday)"

  13. Moving Sam & Danni to weekend afternoons and replacing them on weekend breakfast with a solo presenter does feel like the more natural move. They've doubled up the presenters on Katie's old slot, so they may need to make a saving there. I don't really think 3 duos in a row is necessary.

They only started in September 2023, but I think that is largely irrelevant. These things change for the greater good.

Dev & Alice only did 6 months before they were swapped with Matt & Mollie back in 2018. Grimmy only did it for 9 months before they moved him to the evening slot.

Matt and Mollie were a comfortable breakfast duo because putting them on breakfast wouldn't disrupt the weekday schedule. Now, they don't have that choice, which means it has to be someone from the weekdays. I don't see Vick, Katie and Jamie, because three presenters could be too heavy in place of Greg. It can still be M&M, but also Dean.

Your point about early breakfast presenters not covering breakfast is fair, but Dean is not a traditional early breakfast presenter, as his profile is arguably higher than that of the usual early breakfast presenter, and he has already covered the breakfast show.

Not sure about Dean presenting breakfast permanently - with the current trends it must be at least a duo.

Agree, I do think there's 2 options when it comes to Greg's Breakfast cover going forward....

    1) Matt & Mollie (with Sam & Danni probably covering them in the afternoons)

    2) Dean

I do think Katie would also be great, but do you let her go solo with the other 2 remaining on drive? As it's obvious Vick has no interest in Breakfast, cover or otherwise.

Funny to think Greg has had so many people cover him on Breakfast (Scott & Chris, Matt & Mollie, Jordan & Katie, Dean) when Grimmy basically only ever had Scott & Chris.

Nothing about Jamie’s instagram post suggests it’s temporary

Well no, but he is probably only on a 6 month contract to meet up with Vick Hope’s renewal being in September. She wouldn’t be able to leave before hand without repercussions for herself

Maybe they’ll click and the show will get extended by another 12 months, but I really can’t see either being there in September 2025.

Also note on socials etc it is almost nobody that is delighting in Jordan leaving.  That's always a good barometer.

Still I am delighted for Jordan if he is getting a huge paycheque for this move - broadcasting is a fickle professional - make the dough when you can.

Have they stopped the comments on the Instagram post? Doesn’t seem to be any recent ones. I presume the other presenters have been asked not to make their own grid or story posts about Jordan?

I guess the Capital move will significantly increase his pay. He nor Vick made it onto the higher earners list & I can imagine Capital have the cash to go wayyyyy up on where he might be right now.
Is it worth the money/profile for the next few years? Or is the better long game to stay at the BBC and end up over on Radio 2, like Scott?

  17. Not posted here today but I am genuinely a little bit stunned by this news.

Jordan has been a firm favourite of mine since he started covering shows & was delighted when he got the bump up to “Going Home”. Wasn’t sold on the Vick partnership to begin with (and I think I do personally prefer the dynamic with Katie) but the show has turned into a solid 2 hours and 15 minutes every single day! It’s got a great pace, with plenty of features & 2/3 people with great humour.

It’s a sad day, because as much as I now like Vick - I just didn’t enjoy Jamie when he covered with Matt last year. So I don’t think I’ll regularly catch the new show (I’ll give it a go out of curiosity, as surely they’ll want to reboot “Going Home” to some degree?).

There are only a handful of people I’ve felt genuinely gutted about leaving Radio 1: Scott & Chris, Alice Levine & now Jordan!

  18. Obviously it never happened before Covid, and it’s only been a handful of times since. Was never explained that random one with Matt at the end of 2023.

I do agree about Vick no longer going to Manchester, it definitely takes something away from the show. It’s okay on a temporary measure but not permanently (and surely takes away from having the show made there!)

On a side note - must be more production staff who work from home? Considering they’re building new Radio 2 studios in old office space.
