  1. I liked the event overall as always, but one things bugs be. Did they really have to lock up Greg again? The original (fake) premise would've worked much better imho. Just make Greg (& Vick) solve the puzzles and the final password while on the road or something. Sounds more fun than Escape Room 3.
  2. I don't exactly keep notes, but remember a few I heard: Grimmy & Annie finished their last sunday night together with Crew Love by Drake & The Weeknd, Grimmy's first on breakfast was Paris by Jay-Z & Kanye West, Greg's first on breakfast was Levels by Avicii, picked by a random texter... I can't recall more, but I usually save first-last shows, so I can maybe look up a few if I have the time.
  3. Today Annie asked Grimmy to co-host with her on the 29th of July, it's gonna be a must listen.

    Radio 1 Relax

What is the rule exactly for these streams? I read somewhere, that they can't air anything new, just repeats of R1 shows, is that actually right? If so, that's bad news for live shows on R1. And with the upcoming changes it will get even worse as it seems now. Like R1 really aired this at one point? Radio 1's Relaxing ASMR - Water - BBC Sounds Content warning: this is the direct opposite of relaxing. No joke. Ladies and gentlemen, the world famous new music station presents Instant Bathroom Break: The Show!
  5. Scott on Serbian X-factor WhhhhooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooo!
  6. Wow, this reshuffle has the best and the worst changes at the same time. Impressive. I'm okay with Annie leaving the weekday show, I've always thought that someone else should have followed Zane to begin with, someone with the same energy, like Phil Taggart (he even said in his last show how odd was to him at first to get the chill show) or now Jack Saunders (that guy is so enthusiastic about music, he could even sell Macarena to me if he had to i swear). She did a great job though, but it could have been better. Friday evenings on the other hand... without Annie, Thursdays are going to be followed by Saturdays i'm afraid. An iconic show gone, end of an era. (But who's gonna do the "Danny Mac" pun on air first? My money is on Scott.) But the worst part is her departure makes a new Grimmy & Annie show impossible. Whenever these two end up together on air is pure radio gold. Could've been the greatest sendoff for both of them, doing a show together again for a few years, maybe on weekend evenings, for example. RMC's monotone mumbling rap playlist is off 8PM and Jack is in: best change ever! Not sure about Clara, but we'll see, I really like her voice, and if the music is fine, I'm in. Daily Sian, thumbs up, then it gets problematic... really problematic. So, a single hour of Sian (odd), René/Annie/Benji cut back to an hour (WHAT?! why?!), and then 5 hours of N-O-T-H-I-N-G (but recyclable filler and podcasts I assume)?! This must be a joke! Or a typo. Actual new music content: 1 hour, filler crap: 5? This is mad. I hope i got that wrong...
  7. I'm a regular listener of the Tiktok Chart... oops, I mean the Official Chart since Scott took over, and I prefer this shorter version too, gives them more freedom in picking which songs get played from the lower half. If I remember correctly, it has been moved from Sunday to Friday because it has to match the day of new music releases. If they move it back to Sunday, it becomes outdated.
  8. This was the last post I read yesterday before the site went all 404. Thought the opinions got a little too unpopular... My take on Anthems: Nowadays it's my favourite punching bag, but Greatest Hits started off as my most liked show (even the Maya Jama edition), but then they kept repeating too much, started mixing the songs (and how badly... those awkward mashups), and the presenters got limited to shoutouts and fake excitement, no more "Heaven... or **echo on** HELL" or anything like that. And instead of a few hours per week, now it's on probably every day, sometimes an anthems show is followed by another one (Dance at 4AM then workout anthems at 5), it's no longer special at all. And the worst part: it made me detest Teenage Dirtbag. Whenever I hear that song, I scream and switch off ASAP. Before Anthems, only Justin Bieber songs had that privilege. On Greg: I agree that his drive show was the better one, but I like having him on breakfast more. I wish they just moved the drive show the breakfast as it was, including Chris Smith. But (oh my god, here we go) not the Going Home Song. That got old really fast, and had the Wheatus-effect on me after the first year or so, just without the screaming. Instant switch off.
  9. I thought it was going to be canceled this year, but so happy they managed to do it after all. I was listening live but missed a lot, I'm slowly catching up on Sounds, about halfway through now. I liked the new format and that they dropped the "we always have to tell jokes between songs" rule, it wouldn't have been funny for the third time. I agree on the video stream. When R1 did the Longest Show (10 years ago today!) they did have a non-stop video stream right on the R1 main page, seeing everything that happened in the studio added so much to the experience. Also every time I hear The Business from now on I will think of "Cranky Scott Mills" close to the 24 hour mark.
  10. I wasn't really listening these shows because I'm just sick of anthems, but I've heard yesterday's chart show. The duo got a lot of praise from texters and rightfully so. Introducing almost 40 Christmas songs on New Year's Day is probably not the most grateful job ever, but they nailed it. Alex & Numi get a thumbs up from me.
  11. Finally someone at R1 realised how confusing Friday "Weekend" Breakfast was and let Greg have the slot. Great news! I'm also really happy for Arielle, I was afraid she will just disappear after weekend early breakfast has been practically axed. I'll probably hear her live more, when apocalypse times are over and I have to get up earlier again. Dev's and Phil's announcement was unexpected, Huw's not so much, he's rather been a 6music presenter lately. As for the future I hope they tone down anthems a bit, now it feels like every third hour is an anthems block of some kind. And filling the schedule with lazy dance hours just to be able to repeat them endlessly on a new stream is just pure insanity.
  12. I know he's still on, but: Phil Taggart. Him getting 10 PM with Alice was fine, then they gave him one hour per week, got moved to 3 AM, and now he has The Chillest Show on Planet Earth, which is decent show in a fitting timeslot, just doesn't fit him at all. For example I'd trade 9 PM RMC for a Loudest Show on Planet Earth with Phil any time.
  13. Thank you for the grid, the best parts at a quick first glance: No one gets axed. Scott is still on Mon-Fri. Earlier Jack & Annie. Jordan getting his well deserved 3 shows a week. The worst changes: 1. Weird and inconsistent timings and show lengths. It will be really hard for a casual listener to remember who's on when. Should've gone with 6-9-12-15h instead (possibly with the lunchtime newsbeat at 11:45). Random anthem shows everywhere (especially the party anthem hour at 3). Weekend evening shows inconsistently still start at 7pm instead of 6. 2. Arielle losing weekend shows. Maybe weekend early breakfast wasn't successful enough as a slot, but at least they could let her have Fri 6-7. 3. Friday. Is. Still. Not. The. Weekend.
  14. I'm also sad to see her leave, Dev & Alice has become my favourite weekend show, at least after they got moved to afternoons. They were fine on their own before, and felt really forced at the time to pair them up, but somehow 1 + 1 became 3. And now they've had like 1 or 2 weekends on air as a duo this year, Alice was mostly off to do other comedy/podcast stuff (probably this is what she had to gave up radio for), even after Maya left they've got split up for some unknown reason. I don't know what's next for Dev, he probably stays on, I've got nothing against him, it's just a step backwards. Maybe a Dev & Arielle could work? Phil & Alice was also a favourite of mine, though it didn't last very long (1-2 years maybe?) and no one remembers it today. At least Alice does. I wish the best for her for the future.
  15. I'm really happy for Arielle but still find the "Friday is weekend" thing confusing, now more than ever. Just have 3 different schedules for weekdays, Friday and weekends, easy as that.
  16. Wow, this sounds amazing, I've been waiting for something like this since 2013.
  17. Though I'd prefer more new music and a longer playlist, I like this kinda shows, I'm a regular listener of Jordan's one on Sundays for months now. My main criticism is the selection. They tend to pick the same one hit wonders again and again in every few weeks, or stick to the one or two most famous tracks of each artist and ignore the rest. It feels like having a D list, which never changes. (If have have to listen to "Teenage Dirthbag" or "Rude Boy" again with the introduction "What a banger, I haven't heard this in ages!", I'm gonna cry...) I also have mixed feelings on the mix format (pun intended), sometimes they just play 30 seconds of each song just to sqeeze in more, I'd rather listen to fewer tracks in full. How would I change it? First of all, if they want to have it on daily, that's fine, but half an hour would be enough, that's ~7 songs in full (like Adele's Best New Pop). Don't be afraid to pick more obscure but good songs, almost 3 decades of should be enough to fill a few months without repeat. Personally I'd play the original versions of recent hits more just for educational purposes. Maybe do some feature or game around the songs, like Matt and Jordan did with Heaven or Hell. ("Who ripped off this one? Pitbull or Flo Rida? 81199!") A radnom idea: Recently they started to use themes, which is a step in the right direction, but they should come up with more interesing ones. When I hear "Classic RnB and indie bangers", I already know what songs I'm gonna hear and there's a 70% chance I just turn it off (see selection problems above). But what if the theme is "songs with a specific word in it", "songs about a specific topic" or "songs that don't sing their title", etc. any you can guess which song could be played next. I saw something like this on a music TV channel (WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO), and loved the idea, I'd like to hear it on radio.
  18. A new one from yesterday: "The one for the unemployed!"
  19. I love the new introductions which get played sometimes at 1 right after the news: "The one for fake tan" or "The one after *callers voice* neeewsbeat". I usually miss the first few minutes of the show so these might have been on for ages. Reminds me of Grimmy's status updates from his nighttime show ("Status update: Nick Grimshaw *singing to the ABBA tune* is Grimmy-Grimmy-Grimmy, the man before midnight!") or when callers introduced Scott's show.
  20. This one has a lot of great ones too. Luckily I've heard most of these at the time, seems like i was destined to find R1 sooner or later.
  21. Podcast as a genre is a hit and miss for me. If I want to listen to something, it's mostly live radio, or if there's nothing good on, I just look up an older show i missed, or just listen to offline music. I do this when I'm busy with something, and neither of these demand full time attention. And if I do pay attention to something, I pick a movie or a video instead. I also don't understand why did they air podcasts on radio now. Who would listen to them live (especially at 3 AM) when you can just put them on whenever you want and listen from beginning to end. It just takes away airtime from actual radio shows.
  22. "U okay hun?" Any more details of his recent R2 activity would be nice to hear. His thoughts about the LOLathon or doing a marathon show in general. Still about the LOLathon, but not quite: would he ever accept a regular late night slot where he could be as rude as that was in the late hours?
  23. That's a tough one, my memory is not that good to remember exactly what was played when, I'd have to wander around on the web archive first. The only one I know by date is the first one I ever heard (sadly that wasn't cached so here's the one from the week after): https://web.archive.org/web/20110119165600/www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/playlist/. Looking back at it now it still had loads of crap ones, but I only remember the best of it like Crush, Jump Into The Fog, Me & You, Skinny Genes, Bigger Than Us, Hot Mess, Fighting Fire (just to mention the least known ones). These defined me R1 for a long time. For me, the playlist quality always followed a normal distribution: a few really good songs, lots of okay/indifferent ones, and a few really bad or boring ones.
  24. And they did it again. (I'm in CEST, an hour ahead of the UK, they had it up by 17:45 UK time.) On a scale of 1 to 10 this is a 0.1 level spoiler.
  25. I still find it confusing to this day. Usually tune in to hear Greg and always get surprised by Matt & Mollie. At least it reminds me to listen to the chart on the way home. I'm not fully against a different Friday schedule with a "Friday breakfast" or a "Friday afternoon", but if they'd stop calling it weekend, that'd be great.
