Conor Knight is covering for Sam and Danni on Sunday. I think that’s the first day off their show since they started in September!
-
I wonder if it might be slightly left field - James Cusack and Lauren Layfield together maybe?
-
I think it needs to be a mix of both which it seems to do quite well - obviously it has signed some big names in recent years but also some presenters have come from student radio (Sam and Danni come to mind). One thing I don’t think they need is TV names such as Jamie Laing, I think there’s enough big and small radio names that they can use without people like him (although I would have said the same about Mollie King and look how that has turned out)
-
Ahh I hope this is right! Matt and Mollie have deserved afternoons for years - could almost feel like a (not quite so good) Scott afternoon show again!
-
It does also mean that we’re only going to get a week of the new Going Home before the challenge takes over for a week which probably isn’t ideal either.
-
We’ll be getting a Sian Eleri and Jack Saunders pairing at breakfast next! 😂
-
From that story though I still don’t understand how they managed to get Jamie in so quickly? It sounds like Jordan only told them I assume after his last show that he was leaving and suddenly they already had a replacement lined up for him?
-
Yeah I don’t mind Dean at all on his own, I think his Breakfast cover has been pretty listenable when he’s done it and I think he could have done a pretty good content heavy afternoon show on his own. Unfortunately the Dean and Vicky pairing just isn’t working (and I do like Vicky too, I think she sounds good on her own as well) and the production on that show is very weak which just ends up with a very poor afternoon show currently.
-
The Mega Massive Monday one posted on Friday that Dean got LOTS of stick underneath unnecessarily
-
Looks like it’s James Cusack and Nat O’Leary today. I hope Dean is ok - seems to have been completely AWOL since that Instagram post went up on Friday
-
I still don’t quite get why Radio 1 didn’t announce Jordan’s departure on Thursday morning and say he’ll have a final goodbye show that day. Capital were never going to announce Roman’s departure before that because he was off last week so it couldn’t have been ruined by them either.
-
I wonder if Lauren Layfield will play a major role at some point this year too? If she has signed for radio 1 which seems like a strong possibility, they surely must have promised her some kind of major show for her to leave Capital’s Early Breakfast show? I do wonder if her and Katie together somewhere might be an option? Not sure I can see it being Breakfast but definitely somewhere else on the schedule
-
I do wonder who will actually want to present Monday’s going home - I can’t imagine it will be an easy show to try and do. The names I suggested yesterday of Arielle and Sam and Danni are already both on earlier in the day (so is Matt) and with Katie being on holiday, the only person I can see doing it is Nat?
-
Yeah I thought it was very strange how he missed Greg off his goodbye post. He seems a very obvious one to have accidentally missed off. Edit: He’s added Greg to his post now! Drama over haha
-
I wonder if they might be giving Jordan a goodbye show on Monday, it’s the only day that still has the Vick and Jordan picture, why would they have changed all the others and left that one?
-
I wouldn’t be surprised if Vick isn’t on Going Home for the next couple of weeks and they stick Arielle or Sam and Danni on it, firstly so that Vick hasn’t got a very awkward show on Monday to deal with and secondly so they can launch the show fresh on the 4th March.
-
I’m a bit surprised that Vick has stayed too. I thought that if Jordan went, she would go with him really and then have a whole new line up at drive. It’s a shame the Vick and Jordan (and Katie) partnership only lasted a couple of years because it was by far my favourite on radio 1
-
A very short corporate statement seems a bit off too, where’s the thank you press release from Aled? Seems all very strange
-
No way!! I think he must have been poached by Capital surely. What a shame that he never got the Radio 1 Breakfast Show! I genuinely can’t see anyone obvious waiting in the wings now for R1 Breakfast if Greg steps down. I’m guessing that Matt and Mollie might get it for a little while?
-
I think the tributes over the last few days have been perfect especially in the immediate aftermath by Sara Cox - she is a very special broadcaster to be able to continue presenting in the way she did. It was lovely to hear Greg’s tribute even if there’s many R1 listeners who wouldn’t have heard Steve’s show before. Every time I hear his closing theme now, I think it’s going to get me.

Which DJs have been working from home? I know Vick broadcasts from a studio at broadcasting house so not at home and the only one I remember recently broadcasting from home was Matt one weekend and I’m assuming that was a one off because it’s not happened since?
-
I think if there’s one thing that they’re not going to do to save money is start simulcasting 1xtra shows again, I think that’s been made very clear in the past couple of years with changing Saturday nights, and changing the one show that is simulcast across both stations (rap show) to be radio 1 branded rather than 1xtra. I do agree that we might not see anymore new duos now though. I think it would start to seem a bit too many if there’s more than there currently are.
-
I think it would only be right for it to be Martha if she wants it. She was Annie’s producer anyway and was hand-picked by her for her scholarship so I think it’s only right that her legacy continues in that way.
-
I’d say the Bristol or Bath area, it feels like that’s an area that’s been a bit neglected in terms of big weekends.
-
Oooh good topic! I’ve voted for ‘Going Home’ and ‘Matt and Mollie.’ I think both of those shows sound very fresh, always absolutely full of content and both duos bounce off each other very well (and I’ll include Katie in Going Home too since she’s a big part of it). I think Greg is still sounding great, but maybe coming towards the end of his time on breakfast, same with Arielle on early breakfast too - is a very good presenter but how long will she really want to keep doing early starts for. I’d say RMC is the most improved show of the year, having listened more in the last few weeks, it now has some new features, it seems like they get more time to talk in the links and altogether it just feels a bit less rushed and more what I would have expected their show to be like from the beginning. Dean and Vicky I very rarely listen to now - I don’t think they’re an awful pairing but they don’t gel together particularly well and I think it’s quite telling when I prefer Vicky with any other co-host and Dean presenting on his own. I also think the production and features on the show feels quite cheap, especially coming after Scott Mills. I think weekends are pretty solid though, at the moment I wouldn’t change any of the presenters there. Katie (and Matt and Mollie) deserve promotions at some point, when and where they will come from, I’m not sure.
