I think Kiss has improved quite considerably in the last couple of years. I would say it’s much better than Capital now in my opinion!
-
As much as I really like her, she always seems to be on TV shows, I wonder how much time she’ll actually be doing her show. It’s not a great start anyway if she’s starting it 2 months later than she was originally supposed to be. (Oh and btw Jono, I think she actually survived the skate off in Dancing on Ice last night)
-
I know it’s not strictly R1 related, but Lady Leshurr was supposed to be starting on 1xtra on Saturday - but she’s not and she doesn’t seem to be coming up at all on the schedule. I wonder why she’s now not starting yet?

Ooh good topic - I'll try not to ramble on for too long on here. Overall, I think Radio 1 has handled this last year very well. There has obviously been some changes, some of which I have agreed with, some of which I haven't and then those which seem to have been as a direct result of the pandemic. First of all, I don't think we'd have seen the mass exodus that happened around the middle of last year if the pandemic didn't happen, however I think that Maya, Cel, Mistajam and possibly Alice would have all left. This then caused some schedule changes which may have not happened if those people didn't leave (for example, if Alice didn't leave, I would be surprised if Dev decided to go/didn't get his contract renewed.) Now onto the point of the schedule changes, I'm not sure Radio 1 really needed to make all their shows 4 hours long, especially not for the length of time that they did, as other radio stations managed to cope with their schedules being kept broadly the same. At a guess, I think the pandemic put an end to the Weekend Early Breakfast show, as well as causing the evening schedules to be moved forward by an hour and Early Breakfast to start an hour later. I'm not sure any of those changes would have happened if the pandemic didn't happen. However, there have also been some changes which I've been impressed with and probably would have happened anyway, and that is the schedule changes that are currently taking place, I think Adele had definitely done her time on Early Breakfast and it's nice to see Arielle getting a better slot (oh and Greg getting Friday Breakfast.) I think compared to this time last year, Radio 1 are in an ok position. Obviously it is seen that they are now having to operate on a significantly lower budget than they did this time last year, however I think that Aled has tried to make the best of the situation and I'm looking forward to listening into the new shows in the next few weeks too. Finally, some 2021 predictions: It would be nice to see the budget increase again once the pandemic is over/more controlled, with a weekend early breakfast show brought back with one of the new christmas presenters, as well as a new evening show, so there aren't repeats/mixes between 2-4am (I can see that that's unlikely.) I also hope that Greg is able to do his big events on the breakfast show again (hopefully another hide and seek) and hopefully Big Weekend can go ahead at some point this year. Finally, on the presenter front, I can't see any major changes happening, but I can definitely see Jordan and Grimmy swapping shows or Grimmy leaving altogether with a new presenter taking Jordan's shows. I also think that at some point Scott and Chris and RMC may swap shows but I don't think that will be until early 2022.

Looks like from January; • Mollie will continue to do Best New Pop at 6:30 on a Friday • Anthems will continue on a Friday with Greg presenting the 10 - 10:30 section• • Party Anthems will continue at 3pm on a Friday with Matt and Mollie presenting it
-
I think Feet Up Friday was the other part of the show from 4-5:45 however I may be wrong. I think since Greg started the show it has always been Dance Anthems!
-
Yes! I completely agree, I think when it was him and Chris and then Chris and Grace producing the show was the best and it’s such a shame that that completely changed when he started the breakfast show! I still enjoy it, it just feels more ‘safe’ and less spontaneous than his old show which was probably, for a time, my favourite show on Radio 1!
-
Ah ok thanks. Do you know who's on for the rest of the weekend? I would guess Jordan will be on his normal show but I would be interested to see who's on weekend breakfast?
-
At a guess, they probably asked Scott which show he’d prefer to do and by the sounds of it, he’d rather do breakfast than the chart
-
It will be interesting to see who does the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd as Dev has obviously left, I can’t see Matt and Mollie doing their final weekend breakfast shows then and I don’t think Adele or Arielle will work then as they would have new shows starting the week after. I could potentially see: 7:00 Jordan North 10:30 Katie Thistleton/Cel Spellman 1:00 Riyadh Khalaf I think that could possibly work, however I’ve really got no idea!

Christmas Day: 5-7 am: Radio 1’s Christmas Movie Mixtapes 7-10 am: Scott Mills (yassss!) 10-2 pm: Radio 1’s Armed Forces Christmas Takeover 2-4 pm: The Official Chart with Scott Mills 4-6 pm: Radio 1’s Superstar Playlist 6-8 pm: Rickie, Melvin and Charlie 8-10 pm: Radio 1’s Indie Show with Jack Saunders 10 - 12am: Radio 1’s Essential Mix From 12am: As Normal Seems like Scott will be double shifting this year but very very happy to see him doing Christmas Day breakfast!
-
I wonder when the press pack will be announced that has information about what will be on all the radio stations over Christmas will be announced? It’s normally around the same time as the TV one and that happened yesterday so I’d imagine that it will be at some point this week. I also don’t think it will be very long before the schedule starts to get announced either.
-
What’s that going to consist of then? It sounds interesting anyway!
-
I wonder if Adele may become the main cover for Greg, they don’t seem to like taking presenters off their normal shows anymore to cover other shows and shes the only presenters now who won’t work Monday to Friday!
-
I think there are still a few unanswered questions and I wonder if anyone knows the answers to these? Will Friday’s anthems be booted off or will Greg end up doing the first half hour of them? What will happen to Best New Pop? Will the new Friday presenters do it or will Mollie continue to pre record it? Finally, I wonder what will happen to Party Anthems? I can’t see Matt and Mollie doing it so maybe Scott will get it back again?
-
Maybe I need to revise my prediction now all these changes have been announced? ?
-
I saw that too but I think it was just suggesting that they’re both free on weekends now to meet up!

The annual thread has come back round again, and before the Christmas schedule is properly announced at the end of November/start of December, it’s always fun to see what everyone will predict the schedule to be. This is my prediction this year: Monday 21st - Thursday 24th: 4:00 Arielle Free 7:00 Greg James 10:30 Adele Roberts 1:00 Scott Mills 3:30 Grimmy 6:00 Phil Taggart 8:00 As normal Christmas Day: 4:00 Adele Roberts (pre-record) 7:00 Jordan North 10:30 Official Chart with Scott Mills 1:00 Artist Takeovers 6:00 Usual Friday night line up Boxing Day - Wednesday 30th: Student Takeovers New Years Eve: Student Takeovers 5:00 Arielle Free 9:00 Jordan North (NYE party show) New Years Day: 4:00 Arielle Free (pre-record) 7:00 Matt and Mollie 10:30 Jordan North 1:00 Dev 4:00 Official chart with Scott Mills/chart of year January 2nd + 3rd As normal January 4th - 7th: 4:00 Adele Roberts 7:00 Matt and Mollie 10:30 Clara Amfo 1:00 Dev 3:30 Jordan North 6:00 As normal I don’t think that we’ll have a Scott Mills breakfast show this year due to the fact that Christmas falls on a Friday! Meaning that he’ll probably be doing the chart instead, I also can’t see there being that many changes compared to normal, mainly because the schedule has become more compact this year, so not needing as many cover presenters. What does everybody else think?
-
That’s a late change! Hope everything is ok with Jordan. Is Arielle double shifting tomorrow or is somebody going to cover her show?
-
Ooh that’s interesting, she’ll be with Matt I presume? Is she also hosting Life Hacks on the Sunday or is Katie doing that solo? Knew it wouldn’t be that long before she found herself covering other people
-
To answer my own question, it looks like Scott’s actually on holiday that week. No one seems to be off on Radio 2
-
Is that because Scott is over on R2 again do you know or is he taking a holiday? A bit of a shame to see Cel doing Arielle’s show and not some new talent but I suppose that’s what he meant when he said he was going to stay with Radio 1
-
Riyadh Khalaf is covering for Matt that weekend with Mollie. I did wonder whether we’d start to see him cover again soon since he’s won Masterchef! I wouldn’t be surprised to see him around on TV and radio a lot more in the next few months!

Lots of changes over the next few weeks: Week commencing 24th: • Arielle is in for Adele • Matt and Mollie are in for Greg • Jordan is in for Scott and Chris • Clara is in for Annie • Phil is in for Jack Friday 28th: • Jordan in for Scott on the chart • Mistajam in for Annie Saturday and Sunday (29-30th): • Dev and Jordan co-hosting Reading highlights Bank Holiday Monday: (Night time takeover) 4:00 The Chillest Show with Phil Taggart 7:00 Danny Howard 11:00 Rickie, Melvin and Charlie 3:00 The Indie Show with Jack Saunders 7:00 The Rock Show with Daniel P Carter 9:00 The Radio 1 Residency 11:00 BBC Introducing Dance with Jaguar Tuesday 1st: The new schedule begins - very complicated and confusing Weekend of 4th September: • Mollie is off so Matt is solo but it means that Best New Pop doesn’t launch until the following week and Arielle gets her show extended to 7am! • Arielle seems to be doing Anthems on a Saturday morning from 6am but not sure if she’s also doing the other new shows (obviously it will be voice-tracked) Week Commencing 7th September: • Rickie and Melvin are off so Yasmin Evans joins Charlie

Inspired by Graeme's post in the chat box, how have you all found the new temporary schedule content wise? I have found it very hit and miss if I'm being honest, Scott's show has been great and I have really enjoyed the quiz which I hope stays even when the schedule goes back to normal. It also feels like Scott is playing fewer songs than what he used to in his normal slot so that's another positive. But on the other hand, I have found Clara's shows really bland and so different to Scott's every other week. I think them having to alternate is the main reason that I want the schedule to return to normal. At the weekend's, I do enjoy all three of Dev, Alice and Jordan even though I dislike them all only being on every 3 weeks, and also not having Dev and Alice on together. However, the content in all of their shows is good. Finally, I hope that Jack gets to do his show live in the studio again soon as it's not the same recorded and also hope that Arielle gets her weekend shows back again soon properly and not just Anthems! I'd also be interested to see what they decide to do with Maya's shows. Will Jordan just get them as expected, or could they possibly sign someone new? Or maybe even make a more drastic schedule change with many people being moved around? I'd be interested to see everyone's views!
