Unless we’re getting a more music show that mirrors RMC, they could just be going for a soft launch approach. There hasn’t been much promo around the show, which makes sense considering they’re not high profile names that will immediately bring in listeners.
-
Personal favourites are Sarah Story’s show and I personally like having a Power Down Playlist at 10pm even if its pre-recorded. I think Radio 1 is in a good place with its specialist output at the moment.
For me personally I think a lot of the daytime changes simply haven’t wowed me because they followed presenters or shows I really liked and felt worked, which makes Radio 1 feel like its gone down a notch in quality in the last few years without meaning to sound too harsh! Dean and Vicky taking over Scott and Chris will no doubt add to that feeling in the coming weeks
-
Just seen that Vick and Jordan are covering breakfast on Friday 1st October
-
RMC work much better than Clara did in that slot too, and Clara is the most sensible replacement for Annie (who I'll also continue to miss!), and its nice to have Sian Eleri getting more hours so quickly, really like her. Good changes all round on weekdays imo!
-
Vick and Jordan are sounding so much more at ease today, really promising first few shows. I was a fan of Grimmy so its big shoes to fill for me but they're more than proving they are the right replacement.
-
While I’m sad to see Grimmy go, it felt like it was around the corner for a while now, especially recently with Annie and Sinead leaving, so I’m not too surprised.
Really pleased they didn’t do the obvious thing of just moving Jordan over but have instead decided to add Vick into the mix! Both of them work best when they have someone to bounce off so makes the most sense to put them together.
Not too sure how I feel about Dean yet, feels like a very quick promotion! Think I need to hear more before I form a proper opinion, but it is a bit of a shame Katie hasn’t had some sort of promotion here

Arielle is also staying on until 6:30 next friday to cover best new pop for mollie

When exactly was it playing? Haven't heard it yet (since I wasnt listening that much in the last week)
It seems to be getting played as a Top of Hour

Enjoyed what I heard of Jack Saunders tonight - his loud and much more fast paced delivery reminded me of Zane, compared to Annie's much more chilled out style.
Just came on here to say the same thing, rarely listen to Jack because indie's not my thing but he sounded really good tonight!

I wonder if Phil will use the Breakfast package Greg uses
I assume there must be three/four versions of this knocking about now
Same jingles and stabs but different names Greg's of course, Scott's (he did have a package done which said Scott & Chris) M&M and a generic one that says "Radio 1 Breakfast"
So assume Phil would use "Radio 1 Breakfast" same as when Mistajam covered for Grimmy in 2017 for a week he used a generic set without his name
Its supposed to be in the style of the specialist show in question though because its a takeover, so I suspect it will be the same imaging as The Chillest Show
-
So this is very interesting
Bank Holiday Monday (26th August) Radio 1 are doing a nighttime takeover with the following shows07:00 The Chillest Show with Phil Taggart
10:00 Ricky, Melvin & Charlie
13:00 Pete Tong
16:00 Indie Show with Jack Saunders
19:00 Dan P Carter
22:00 Benji B

I'll be the lone Grimmy fan here and say I think he gets a hard time here. He has an incredible skill of making his shows sound natural but still entertaining and that can be very difficult to pull off for many presenters. I'm a bit lukewarm on Jordan North taking over drive. He's a good presenter but having Greg on breakfast and Jordan on drive all feels too... safe, and we know radio 1 don't like to play safe. Grimmy and Greg have opposite personalities to appeal to different people in Radio 1's demographic during their flagship weekday shows (hence why you usually hear people prefer one to the other), and Greg and Jordan seem to appeal to the same type of people.
I personally enjoyed Alice Levine covering on Thursday, but I don't think we'll ever see a scenario where Dev & Alice take over 4-7.

There’s signs around saying do not swear. From what I’ve seen on Instagram and Twitter anyway
there is every year yet the rule is often broken or ignored. its the only reason i can think of as to why the radio 1 content for big weekend this year has been quite dire
-
i think with big weekend being fully live there was always the issue of swearing pre-watershed and a lot of the acts would break that rule despite being told not to, so maybe that’s why they aren’t broadcasting as live like usual? A shame indeed as I preferred the pre-2018 BW coverage but I suppose if it stops them from getting into hot water it makes sense
-
Strange that they've only just changed Scott to Dev and Alice next week. That would mean he's off for two weeks as the week after is Eurovision week.
-
i would say that eurovision is the reason too. that would be 3 weeks off 1-4 within the space of a month. That being said i can also see Matt & Mollie being the go to cover from now on anyway. It stops the weekday schedule being interrupted and ties in with the weekend schedule nicely.

yeah I have to admit I went to sleep after Unexpected Fluids hour. Felt like they peaked at 10pm when all the DJs came in at the same time, should’ve been spread out more because we didn’t even get to hear some of them!
also can’t felt but feel they’re disappointed by the total. Only at £32K so I can’t blame them. Can’t see it happening again if they don’t get that total up asap.
-
I feel like i’ll find it boring in the morning because the rude part has been SO good. I still listen to the 9-4am part from 2017 all the time because its Scott and Chris at their absolute best. Loving this.
-
They confirmed this week that Fearne Cotton will cover Zoe Ball’s show, with Matt Lucas covering on bank holidays
-
Sure they said it wasn’t that on Monday
-
I really hope it’s another lolathon (which is probably one of the best things Scott and Chris have ever done) and we’re just being dramatic!
Could be something to do with Bamboleo? They were being cryptic about the announcement being on a Wednesday.

Don’t often like to listen to the SRA shows as I get incredibly jealous , but I had a listen to both and Adam is pretty good! Right delivery and tone for the show, wouldn’t mind hearing him again.
Nikki chose some great tracks on NYE too though, so that won me over

I think we’re all in the same boat here the only reason she’s still on is because she’s relatively new (and famous) and it would embarrassing to let her go so soon.
She didn’t exactly have the smoothest introduction to R1 with the old tweets scandal, so that could be part of the problem as to why she doesn’t seem heavily a part of the R1 christmas family, but the fact she doesn’t cover anyone else’s shows just gives off a ‘name in lights’ vibe for me, she’s not there to work her way up the hard way. Not to mention her shows sound like she just turned up and rattles off her thoughts on the spot...
Can’t see her lasting 2019 anyway, she’ll most likely decide to leave for TV commitments.
Youngest presenter to get a show

Cel Spellman was 19 when he started Sundays I think, not sure if he was the youngest though
