  1. It looks like they're gonna have to put a 15 minute bulletin in the breakfast show to me... (not that I'll mind as it's 15 mins less Grimmy in the morning)
I've always loved how seriously they take the 1 hour day time news rule it's exactly right to the minute:
    6:30, 7:00, 7:30, 8:00, 8:30, 9:30 all 3 mins so 18 mins. 10:30 and 11:30 are 2 mins each bringing it to 22. 1:30 is 1 min (23), 2:30 and 3:30 2 mins (26), 4:30 3 mins (29), and 5:00 1 min (30) - add the 15 min bulletins and there is your hour!

    + 3 mins at 10 pm [emoji23]
    But great discovery there [emoji106]

  2. Some people in the UM WhatsApp group chat (including me) want to work in the radio industry one day. This here is to discuss and point out ways to get a job in radio.

I'm Julian, 16, from Germany. I've fallen in love with radio when I was eight or nine years old, started to run my own, imaginary radio station in my head. When I was 14 years old my mum told me about a radio workshop at my local church. After it finished, the guy who did it asked me to return every Tuesday, which I've been doing for the last two years. I went from being a reporter to doing my whole own show. I'd like to study journalism after I finish school in a year and then work in the radio industry. I like presenting and choosing music most, but production and editing is great work too.

What about you? Who would like to work in radio once and who's got any advice for me / us?

  3. Hey everyone!

I've been thinking about whether it would be a good idea to create an Unofficial Mills WhatsApp group where we could discuss events even faster, as they happen, like telling the others that there's a technical glitch or something we all have to listen to immediately. WhatsApp would be faster than creating a topic and then hoping that many others read it on time. We're basically going to discuss any interesting stuff in there.

But: IT IS NOT INTENDED TO REPLACE THE FORUMS.

What do you think about the idea?

I you like it then DM me your number and name and I'll make that group.

  4. It's probably a one off, to save Matt doing 16 days on the trot, as things are he did his regular slot this weekend, followed by five of Scotts this week
Suspect he will not be driving the desk, just talking into the microphone, with someone else driving
What would have been better would be for Scott to have done Matts middle weekend maybe, or someone like Greg James, Clara or Adele make a rare weekend appearance
Assume 1st choice failing those would have been Fearne Cotton or Sara Cox, as a stand in with previous R1 experience, maybe to cover Matts shows, but shes doing Ken Bruce's slot on R2, and Coxy is covering for Evans for two weeks
One last Idea, my Rylan avoidance scheme would be to extend Dev by 90 mins - until 1130 and start Alice at 1130 to plug the gap, or add an hour to Dev until 11 get Alice to do 11-3 and Danny 3-7 something along those lines
In the good old days of Moyles he would have covered those slots at the weekend had they been going, am I right in saying he did his own breakfast show one day and then the 1-4 show on same day?

I think that booking was made because Matt and Rylan know each other from the Extra-Factor. Maybe he wanted to do some Radio.

  5. We've been discussing this a bit in the Chatbox but this does deserve it's own thread. OFCOM, the new regulators for the BBC have announced a new draft operating license which sets out some rules about the standards on it's programming and it's competition. These changes apply to BBC Radio 1/2 as well so here's a rundown on some of the changes..
    • A new peak-time requirement for a longer news programme on weekdays, the 1 hour requirement is staying though and there will be still 2 extended bulletins.
    • There will be more focus on emerging and new UK acts and the music output will be more distinct from other broadcasters. The music played during the daytime will be focused from those in the UK.
    • R1 will still be required to broadcast a certain amount of Specialist Music each year.
    • There will be a bigger broader range of music played on R1/R2. This means the playlist could be set for more changes in terms of it's size.
    • More than 40 documentaries will need to be made each year.

So, apart from the music, nothing will have to change?

  6. Haha he's everywhere on TV in the UK- does Big Brother's Bit on the Side, did Xtra Factor last year, does showbiz slots on This Morning, has his own chat show on Channel 5. Don't think he's ever done radio before though- very strange booking.

Oops. As from Germany, I'm not really familiar with British TV [emoji23]

Well... Let's give him a chance!

I've heard something that Matt was involved with the Xtra-Factor as well, maybe the booking went that way.
