  1. To be honest she never filled Annie’s shoes in my eyes. It’s been a disappointing tenure having not been able to grow her show. It’s a stark contrast from her mid morning show where I preferred her to RMC.

It feels odd that Glastonbury has made their headliner announcement and big name performers on the stages that are broadcasted across BBC before big weekend when big weekend is held a month before. Interesting they have gone for a big weekend vibe almost with with Dua Lipa, SZA, Olivia Dean, Little Simz and Burna Boy playing the pyramid and Disclosure, The Last Dinner Party and Nothing But Thieves on the other stage.

Same time as most years for the Glastonbury lineup.

Similar balance of radio 1 artists to previous years, too.

Anyone notice that Matt has already said he’s doing the breakfast show on Monday and Greg isn’t in? Interesting that’s already been decided so early

The wording he used was pressing the buttons, given it’s a challenge day with all the DJ’s in & Greg also has Covid I wouldn’t read too much into that

I assume Sara must have broken the news. Have Radio 1 even given it a mention. Tbh I hope they do, it's just plain wrong if they don't if I'm truthful.

yes Jordan mentioned Steve Wright a little earlier in the show.

It’s understandable as the amount of stages and areas Glastonbury is larger than any weekend events that the BBC does by some miles. No festival or events BBC covers has that amount of stages and areas so it makes sense. That said I would love to be able to watch events and coverage of other stages maybe with other broadcasters and media outlets in addition to the BBC.

I don’t see it as surprising as Glastonbury is one of the worlds biggest festival and Big Weekend whilst considerably big festival isn’t seen as big in terms of public interests. It’s probably a lot cheaper for BBC to cover Glastonbury as you are only planning and organising outside broadcasting and only organise one tent. But with Big Weekend, The Proms, 6 Music Festival its the BBC have to book and organise the lineup work out all the contracting for security, toilets and setting up all the things on the fields and work with councils to work out the permissions etc and work out the costs.

But all the festival contracts the practicalities to making the festival happen thats down to the organisers of the festival and the BBC just has the thing of working with Glastonbury and working out how to get it on radio and on peoples television. Considering the amount of people who either watch on BBC Two and Four, watch the livestreams of the festival or catch up on iPlayer and it does deliver more clicks and views a than other events the BBC does. For the reception the audience given over the years has shown theres reason to scale up.

I find there’s so much more to cover.

Festival Republic are contracted by the BBC to provide the logistical and organisation side of things for most of their music events, especially Big Weekend & Radio 2’s event. It’s highly likely FR do the management of everything outside of broadcast and the initial talks with the local council to decide on the location.

I would think that it would be wild gambit just to assume because Liverpool have the Eurovision weeks before that would occur in Liverpool. That said wouldn’t cling on to this idea of the north west of england when it hasn’t been explicitly confirmed and haven’t been able to confidently state that for certain. Radio 1 on the covid lockdown cancellations being the sole factor on the delay of Dundee and the only conditional reason why. They would have had it last year in Dundee but went to Coventry. We don’t know how in advance talks start and these things you say that work would already been done but it depends on certain cities council and planning regulations and rules of whether that they would have to re-apply for the event and get new set of planning and that the council would have to decide on it themselves. As such things like this would need to have certain security risks and even a year delayed with plans they may need to see if anything’ needs to revise. In short there maybe more behind the scenes beurocracy involved.

But with funding and the cost of living and public services for local government working to hold major events becomes a lot difficult

It wouldn’t be the first, second or third time that the BBC have staged the big weekend to coincide with another event, London 2012 & cities of culture Derry Londonderry 2013, Hull 2017 & Coventry 2022 to name just a few.

One of the festivals partners, which looks to be legit is advertising & selling trade space for the festival noting North West, they aren’t going to publicly announce the exact location before the BBC.

We’re talking experienced festival planners on the behalf of the BBC, where things are planned in advance & often in locations where events are already & have previously been held. Councils usually clamour to get the event in their town or city & has previously been reported the biggest stumbling block is funding the councils contribution to the festival.

Hopefully only another few weeks and it will be announced with a Jan Slam ticket giveaway.

Think unless there would be issues reapplying for a major event with council permission. Is it 100% in the north west of England?

As location live, who appear to sell trade space to brands at various locations & events.

Most councils jump at the chance of staging the big weekend & as there’d been so much work by the BBC and Festival Republic to get Dundee booked & announced a large amount would already be done. So it’s either Dundee don’t have the funding required or like it’s said above Liverpool have it to tie in with Eurovision.

I hinted before they may go for one of the new jubilee cities. Think they going for a a new city will go for the BBC’s move to do stuff in areas outside the major towns and cities for events

None of which are in North West England, sadly.

Surprised they aren’t returning to Dundee as they were due to host in 2020. Council / local funding must be the issue for them.
