  1. This new theme is awful, as I predicted. I hate it. September saw a refresh of the station's idents, and v3 of the Newsbeat jingle. At the time I didn't like this one bit, and am still not keen, although only a small selection of the stations idents are good. I've since warmed to the v3 Newsbeat jingle and decided I prefer it to v2. But what has been introduced on Monday doesn't fit into the station at all, it's like going back in time to a jingle I'd expect a decade ago! It also sounds like something off a gameshow!! Maybe it was time to ditch the "Listen, watch, share" slogan. But in my eyes the previous jingle produced by Koink was a successful and professional piece which is more than can be said for this new jingle. Why the BBC never turned to Koink again is beyond me. Or maybe they did, this was a kind of audition to see who could come up with the best. Clicking fingers might work in chart music...not in a Newsbeat jingle though. Digital, FM, Online isn't really a practical slogan in radio today, considering that the FM frequency will soon be turned off on favour of digital, and that social media played a partial role in the "Listen, watch, share" slogan.
  2. This morning at about 8:20am, the orchestral version of the Breakfast show theme tune was played with Nick talking over it until the news at 8:30. It was nice to hear this, as Nick hardly uses this version and it's different, quite often Scott uses it 2 or 3 times when he sits in for a whole week. Anyway, does anyone know where I can get a download of this please?

  4. This whole new set of voiceovers and ID's is the biggest mistake to hit radio 1 in years. Since the April 2012 changes Pure Jingles have had some fantastic jingles, admittedly they have slipped a little in the last few years but generally they've been full of energy and vibrant. Now I feel we've gone back in time with younger voices of a 14 year old, and people with accents. This'll knock Ben Cooper for 6 if Scotland votes gut independence, cue the next refresh. The Newsbeat change I can just about take. This is v3 since Koink produced it back in 2011. The last version was clear and informative, this is not clear. Still, St least the music's the same. Switching onto Grimmy's return on Monday morning, I was nervous like I sometimes get on his first day back after his holidays. Not because I join the other morons in the UK and do my best to hate him, but because usually R1 see his returns from holidays as an opportunity to change the Breakfast show jingles. Thankfully, not this time round. But I was certain there would be changes last Monday as rumoured, and was relieved throughout most of the day to hear not many changes. But come 4:30...OMG. 😠 I'd like to think it's a temporary fix but I think I'm in cloud cuckoo land with that theory. Thank god for Sound Cloud and the memories.
  5. From tomorrow Scott is in for Grimmy for 2 weeks. And this bus my chance to grab some recordings of the slightly different jingles that are used. I want a simple recorder or converter that can interact with iPlayer so I can save in MP3 format. Any suggestions please?
  6. The only Newsbeat by Music4 I can find is this from 2006. Is his the one you're referring to?

  8. I'm probably in the minority here as I actually think the current ones are cool and OK as they are. They're not too loud and a little catchy...I see the introduction of new ones a ticking time bomb, as they could be too overpowering and not fit in with the rest of the stations branding. It does interest me though how they use many different companies for their sounds. Koink did the current Newsbeat, Pure Jingles do the main station jingles and Wise Buddah did the Radio 1 Breakfast Show. Moyle fans may remember Music4 did his show music. It'd be interesting to see what Koink could come up with second time round, and also how Pure Jingles would create a theme to fit in with the stations jingles.

  10. I'm looking for the jingles uses when Scott sits in for Grimmy. I'm after the opening bed, the jingle used just after the news, and the orchestral version that is very subtle without any bests behind it (sounds like royalty almost) Unfortunately it's hard to get hold of some samples as Scott only sits in for him a couple of times a year. But these jingles don't have the "with Nick Grimshaw" on the voiceovers.
