  1. I've sometimes wondered where Chris would end up once Scott eventually moves on from Radio 1. If Dev or Matt took over at 1-4pm it would probably be a solo show, so this seems like a really good opportunity for Chris and a hint at things to come. The online presence is only going to become more important for Radio 1, what with BBC3 closing too. Chris would be a great 'anchor' for R1s online presence.
  2. I think Alice ending up on daytime is inevitable. I wouldn't have been opposed to a Phil & Alice Drivetime, but it seems that paying two presenter wages is a budget stretch too far for R1 these days. So she'll probably end up in the 10am slot, which will be great as you can practically hear Fearne grabbing her coat midway through her incredibly dull '3 word review' feature these days. Fearne can go to weekend afternoons as you mention. Drivetime/Breakfast will be an interesting one. I think Ben Cooper will either stick with the status quo and persevere with Grimmy, or swap him with Greg James, a la Cox/Moyles. Matt Edmonson is the natural successor to Scott I think, but long may Scott's show last in the meantime, it's by far the most entertaining on R1 for me and Chris Stark has added several years to its' lifespan IMO. Phil Taggart is an interesting problem. I can't help but wonder what went down for him to be reduced from 8 hours a week to 1.
  3. Funniest segment in a long time. Chappers ripping the living daylights out of Scott's age was too funny
  4. Huw Stephens just doesn't make sense to me in Scott's slot. I'd rather Matt Edmonson was primary cover, or Alice Levine if he's not available. Good on Fearne for making it through a whole 3 weeks on air, she deserves a good break. Glad Dev seems to be primary cover for Greg James these days
  5. Great news, Chris is perfect for this sort of thing.
  6. Not so sure about Huw covering, I think Matt's got a much more similar format to Scott and it works much better than having a 'music-oriented' DJ on. Agree with all above that Greg and Chris Smith sound fantastic. If Greg is the heir apparent to breakfast I hope Chris goes with him to become a permanent contributor.
  7. Whilst it's getting a bit silly with Fearnes continual days off, Alice is sounding great in the slot. The difference between her and Gemma Cairney covering the same slot is massive. She's really talented, I hope she's got a long future at R1.
  8. Have to say I prefer Chris Stark being unexpectedly left in charge of Scott's show https://soundcloud.com/bbcradio1/chris-stark-is-left-in-charge
  9. Scott's effectively out of the running for Breakfast now, which is a shame. Great cover presenter though, long may that last. Afternoons are the best place for him, as that slot likely has an older audience who aren't at school etc; Hopefully his contract will be renewed for a couple more years for that slot, then here's what I want to happen. Breakfast (September 2014) - Greg James - He's been primed for this slot with his progression, Earlies > Afternoons > Drive, Breakfast is the next slot for him. Chris Smith and Laura would complete the 'on air' team, in a proper zoo format. Mid Mornings - Alice Levine - I love her cover, and I think she has a very bright future at Radio 1. Fearne Cotton can move to a weekend slot or leave, I don't mind either way. There needs to be a drastic shift in production on this slot too... 'Send me 3 words about the track of the day' does not a good feature make. Afternoons - Matt Edmonson - Stylistically the only presenter who could take over from Scott, and with the right set of features I think he could be great. Chris Stark would do well to stick around as a contributor in this slot. Drivetime - Nick Grimshaw - Cox/Moyles style swap, I think Nick would be much better suited to Drivetime than he is breakfast. Any thoughts?
