  1. I reckon that this move definitely puts BOTH Phil Taggart (mainly him though) and Alice Levine in a good position to cover both Zane Lowe and Scott Mills. Maybe this shuffle is actually quite a clever one, after all. Surely 10pm-1am will be the last slot Huw Stephens will find before he leaves...
  2. Hearing Fearne Cotton talk to Grimmy, looking back at Big Weekend, reminds me of actually how good and passionate Fearne is about music. OK, she gets loads of holiday for some reason, and her shows may sound a little bland at times, but I think Big Weekend has and will bring out Fearne's drive for radio and make us remember why she is at Radio 1. Yes, I think her time is nearly up but the live lounges and her Kings Of Leon interview which will air today surely qualifies Fearne as a good part of the daytime lineup who still is committed to the BBC. I can't imagine a time without Fearne, for now. She's good between Grimmy and Mills, so... well done Cotton, I say!
  3. I don't think it's anything more than a bit of variation. Matt would have just covered Scott over Easter for 2 weeks - a third week may be pushing it, especially within a month. It'll be... refreshing to have Huw on, I guess.
  4. The issue is that now, in my opinion, the weekend line-up has never been stronger, except there are no female DJs which will eventually get Radio 1 into diversity problems. Give the line-up half a year, I say, and then let Huw go because he's been on weekends the longest. Adele Roberts... maybe. Fearne Cotton would be a good move given recent controversy, except neither of those two I think fit very well into the weekend line-up. Jen Long or Phil Taggart would be perfect to replace Huw. Or, instead, move Annie Mac to Dance Anthems. Matt Edmondson won't leave until called to replace Scott Mills. Dev may move to replace Greg James one day. Huw Stephens to replace Zane?
  5. I really hope that Dev is the main stand in for Greg James, rather than Huw Stephens (as much as I love him!) After Dev moves to weekends, how will he get back on during the week if Scott stands in for Grimmy, Gemma stands in for Fearne, Matt stands in for Scott and Huw is in for Greg?
  6. I never understood why Huw stood in for Scott. Huw is such a music DJ that he doesn't suit a show like Scott's. To be fair, though, around the time when Huw covered everything (last year after Grimmy, who stood in for Scott and Greg before, moved to breakfast) who else was around to provide cover?! Matt can now cover Scott full-time, as can Dev with Greg when Dev moves to weekend brekkie. Alice Levine, though, should get to do drive again she was great!
  7. Question: why does Zane Lowe never cover anyone anymore? I can think of a couple of shows worth trying him on. Whether he does what Annie Mac sometimes does and sits in during the day and still do his evening show, or move him to a slot for the week and give Huw his gig... I don't know. Zane's music style would go well on the breakfast show (remember when he did it a few years back?!) He could cover Fearne Cotton... have him on the late-night show 10-midnight one week just for a laugh! He can cover Rob da Bank, any of the dance anthem shows actually, Huw Stephens... My point being is that I'd rather hear Zane at 10am than Gemma Cairney! Why do we have to have a female sitting in for Fearne all the time?

  9. I like the idea of this negotiation between keeping Grimshaw on breakfast and allowing him a co-host. By no means is it to suggest he is weak but... I really don't want Ben Cooper rushing in Greg James right now. Grimshaw should be given a chance, and whilst I agree that some of his shows aren't up to standard I think Annie Mac could really save it. Why not?! I think the Radio 1 audience has become accustomed to solo hosts for breakfast and the zoo format which was employed by Chris Moyles. Must I remind you that in the eighties breakfast was co-hosted!
  10. Perhaps this suggests that Alice Levine is the new stand-in for Matt Edmondson, now that Dev (who has stood-in for Matt for several weekends last year) is moving to weekend breakfast... Pete Allison: Definitely will have something in the future. I'd like to think that Gemma Cairney is a short-term replacement for Dev. I'd rather her go back to BBC Radio 1Xtra! If she is lined up to replace Fearne Cotton in the future, over Alice Levine, I will be very disappointed in Ben Cooper.
  11. In moving Dev to a weekend slot, this puts him in a better position to cover Scott Mills and Greg James, which is quite an exciting opportunity for him. He was excellent over Christmas in the afternoon shift, and now with him able to do more daytime cover Huw Stephens, who I respect as a DJ but covers way too much, can be given less to do which also is good for Matt Edmondson. Greg James should move to breakfast in September. My dream would be for Dev to take drivetime 4-7pm. I would've said Matt Edmondson but surely he is better suited to taking over Scott Mills whenever he leaves. Have the two swap slots in late 2015. Huw Stephens can take over Zane Lowe whenever that happens. I really like the weekend lineup, now, and whilst Dev may have been demoted (an awful swap, Gemma Cairney... good luck), I think when you think about it it all makes sense, really. I can't see Dev not being at BBC Radio 1; people love him, and people want to hear him. He is the hardest working DJ, but I think his enthusiasm is what makes the quality of his shows entertaining and optimistic. I'm a DJ myself, and I've always thought it important to come across happy to make the listeners happy. Dev will have to adapt into weekend mornings, once more, but he'll do fine. Gemma won't last long, trust me, I mean if anything if people are really thinking her as in line to replace Fearne Cotton one day they are mistaken, majorly. Alice Levine will leave Phil Taggart to take that shift, leaving him solo on the late-night show. So, one day soon... 06:30 Greg James 10:00 Alice Levine 13:00 Matt Edmondson 16:00 Dev 19:00 Huw Stephens 22:00 Phil Taggart Weekends 07:00 Nick Grimshaw 10:00 Scott Mills 13:00 Zane Lowe Controversial, I know, but this is only my theory / preference. The three guys at the weekend... well two of them will be in the late end of their careers at BBC Radio 1. Grimshaw, I just don't know about, I think he's pretty good on the TV if I'm honest. But so's Greg James... ugh, all these possibilities! I mean Dev would be good on breakfast, wouldn't he?!
