  1. Content quality is far too low, I agree.

The Breakfast Show has a cheap version of Bangers at 7:10am, three hourly updates of Ents News and a guest and the guest is on at 8:10am and the interview, more often that not, is wrapped by 8:25am. There is no features after 9am, expect for Throwback Thursday and the Nixtape on a Friday.

There is no content on Clara's show if there is not a Live Lounge - just links to the next song and ANOTHER Ents update at 10:40am.

The afternoon shows are the best for content.

Scott & Chris have Bangers everyday at 2:40pm, Innuendo Bingo twice a week, RoNR and Bambaleo Wednesday but I have noticed that even Innuendo Bingo has been scaled back over the last year or so. If you watch the videos done with Dev and Greg James from this time last year, they were around 11 or 12 minutes long - now you are lucky if they are 7 or 8 minutes long but I suspect this is because of the quality of contestants and whether they enjoy the game or not.

Greg has a feature every day after 5pm and every day after 6pm - after the 10 minute takeover.

I get that Radio 1 is supposed to be leading the way for new music but the features are getting shorter and shorter and they seem to think we, the listeners, don't notice. I think there is such a thing as too much music as you can easily fit 40 songs into three hours (I am sure Clara has more than this even though her show is 15 minutes shorter!) and have plenty time for features without them feeling rushed.

It doesn't help that they now shorten some songs so they can squeeze in even more of the 'popular hits'.

And they've definitely upped the music quotas (again), Scott has to play a song in the middle of Real or No Real now and it's been cut down to 3 facts instead of 4. Today there was only 2 facts because he spoke to Greg for too long - Greg goes "I feel short changed, isn't there normally 3?" to which Scott responded "yes but I've got to play the hits". Sounds like they've definitely been told to play more songs / not drop them.

They only usually play shorter versions of songs on Friday (cos New Music Friday) but I have heard shortened songs during the weekend shows too, particularly after the news and at the top of the hour.

  3. I would like to see The Big Weekend come to Aberdeen or the surrounding area this year (not just because I live here!). Aberdeen has taken a massive battering with the downturn in the oil and gas sector resulting in thousands of jobs being lost and the local economy going down the drain. Also, we had a festival here last year that Example, Katy B and Melissa Steel, all favourites on the R1 playlist performed at and it was a great success.

  4. It just so happens that Christmas Day falls on a Sunday this year - a day that Scott, Chris and Greg are not heard on R1 and that will be why Dev is doing it. Although, I do find it a strange that Scott and Chris don't appear on the radio until the Wednesday - I would have thought they would be back on air on the Monday. Dev is certainly seems to be Radio 1's 'go to guy' for cover and he is getting a lot of it again this Christmas!

Does anyone else remember early last year, Dev was on the radio every day for three weeks straight? I seem to remember him covering Greg in addition to his weekend show and Phil Taggart was covering Huw who was on holiday but called in sick so Dev stepped up, doing 4pm-7pm and then back on for the 10pm-1am show.

Anyone know who the new producer is?

Mark Lockett (former Assistant Producer on the show when Will was the main Producer) steps up to be the main producer. Tom Whiter moves from Clara's show to AP on Scott's show. I must say that I like Tom. He was part of Greg's 'G at the Park' he did at the BBC Scotland HQ in Glasgow a few years back before T in the Park.

Also, Jenny from Greg's show has moved to Alice Levine's show.

  6. I liked 'Dear Scott' with the Posh Radio 4 Lady. Whatever happened to that? I think it was just quietly dropped. I agree with the above posts regarding Real or No Real - it is one of the best feature that Scott has done. Especially when Greg or Charlie plays, the off-topic stories that get shared are comedy gold!

With regards to Beccy, I think she has left Radio 1 and is focussing on BBC projects elsewhere. Her Twitter bio mentions she does 'radio and strategy and stuff for the BBC' and I agree, she is still very much missed on the show.

  7. Following a listener's question, Scott has just announced that he is going to be on air on Christmas Day doing the breakfast show. He has also said that Greg will do the Official Chart show from 10am on Christmas Day. This means the Christmas Number One will be revealed live on air for the first time ever!

  8. Right, I have been thinking about this a lot and this is what I have come up with:

Leave Grimmy where he is at the moment. However, if Grimmy continues with The X Factor for a few more years, I think Ben Cooper could put Greg on Breakfast in a few years. Also, I can’t work out why the Entertainment News has been moved from 11:50am to 7:40am. I don’t think there was anything wrong with it before.

With regards to Clara’s show, I feel that there is something missing and I can’t figure out what. For me, the links are far too short and aren’t worth saying. I think with an extra feature or two, the show could be good but at the moment, it’s not my favourite show on the station.

I’d leave Scott where he is. His show is brilliant at the moment and I see no reason to move him anywhere else.

I’d also leave Greg where he is. Like Scott, his show is great but there is onething that puzzles me. Like Clara’s show, the Entertainment News at 6:30pm has been removed altogether and so Chris Smith just disappears after a song after 6:30pm between Monday-Wednesday and doesn’t at all feature on the show after 6pm on Thursdays and Fridays. With Annie’s Monday-Thursday show, I would extend it to between 7pm-10pm to bring it in line with her Friday show and the rest of the weekend scheduling. The Internet Takeover along with all YouTubers would be dropped from the station. This is radio and the line has to be drawn somewhere. The YouTubers don’t anything to the station in my opinion and when they do present shows, they are just 100% cringeworthy, as proved by Jack and Dean’s attempt at covering Matt’s show last weekend. I listened for a grand total of 7 minutes on Saturday before I switched off, it was that bad.

The Rock Show would move to Thursday nights between 10pm-1am. The reason for this is because I feel that the decision last year to move this show from 12am-2am toSunday evenings was utterly bizarre. I may be singled out here, but I don’t wantto listen to rock music and instead would prefer something a bit mellower. Also, Thursday night is the only night where the 10pm-12am and 12am-1am still applies. I thought the reason the 10pm-1am slots were implemented was to save money and cut back on the number of DJ’s so to keep 10pm-12am doesn’t make sense.

As a replacement, I would divide the 7pm-10pm slot on a Sunday in two. The Surgery and Radio 1 Stories could occupy this slot with shows being extended by 30 minutes. The Surgery could run from 7pm-8:30pm and R1 Stories from 8:30pm-10pm or vice versa. In all honesty, I think putting Gemma into The Surgery was a good move as I think she is suited to broadcasting and presenting documentaries as opposed to DJ’ing.

  9. Greg's new AP seems to be someone called Jenny. I could be completely wrong but I think this could be the same Jenny that produced Matt Edmondson's show until late 2013 or last year until she went on maternity leave.

  10. Geeeez, Ian didn't last at all with Alice, did he?! Perhaps R1 have done a swap (i.e Ian to Greg and Travis to Alice). Also, I'm very confused about Chris Sawyer's move to breakfast. There was no mention of him on air today and I have no idea what his role on that show. Someone has already commented saying that the quality of Grimmy's show has somewhat declined after Matt Fincham's departure and after listening today, I agree wholeheartedly. I hope the same doesn't happen to Greg.

  11. Roushan Alam will be Scott's new assistant producer. He's the producer that was involved in that video with The Saturdays when they attempted to chat him up.

Gutted that Pippa and Travis are leaving Greg's show. They are really good together on air.

  12. It has been confirmed that Matt Fincham off of the breakfast show will leave at the end of the week to produce Annie Mac's evening show. This means that the production team on the breakfast show will be Victoria Easton as producer, Fiona as assistant produceer and a team assistant.

  13. It's certainly a game of musical chairs with the schedule at the moment! One for the nerds, I have figured out that between 26 March - 19 April, Dev will have done 45 hours of radio. That's quite a lot of overtime for someone contracted to be on air for just 8! Phil Taggart, between 29 March and 19 April will have done 38. Dev and Phil are certainly flying the flag for Radio 1 at the moment!

  14. Dev is doing a double shift today apparently. He's on air now 4pm-7pm in for Greg and then in for Phil Taggart who is in for Huw who is in for Annie who is on tour. Confused? Me too! To add to the mix, DJ Target has been drafted in to cover for Huw who is in for Annie tonight from 7pm.

QUOTE=steve24;411622]I'm hearing the new presenter of the sunday slot could be Cel Spelman with a CBBC related show. Don't quote me on that though !

You may be correct. Above is from the Independent, a link tweeted from Louisa Compton (Head of Newsbeat). The short Newsbeat documentaries on the iPlayer seem like a good idea but will this mean doing away with the 12:45pm & 5:45pm programmes and sticking to hourly news until 5:30pm as per Saturday's? Time will tell.
