  1. Big Weekend might be returning to Dundee this year if The Courier newspaper are to be believed https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/news/dundee/4088245/bbc-radio-1-big-weekend-dundee-may-2023/
  2. This is perhaps because R1 usually played a different edit of it which was at a different speed, and you were listening to the standard version?
  3. New show from 9th Jan: Radio 1’s Essential Albums seems to be replacing the powerdown playlist for a few weeks. Along the lines of Zane Lowe’s Masterpieces from back in the day I think, but with a wider focus genre wise. Don’t think anyone else has spotted this yet?
  4. Does anyone else think that if a Friday night slot was to become available, Arielle would get it? It would be perfect for her, especially as she doesn’t do Friday earlies anyway, unless of course she would prefer to do her current schedule of other commitments. In this scenario she’d still do EB Mon-Thurs.
  5. isn’t part of the reason for the current dance anthems format due to the whole R1 dance stream situation as they need to have a legally different format to the competition, or am I just making that up?
  6. I agree, she is a great talent and is perfect for that show
  7. On weekday daytime at least, I feel like new tracks from up and coming artists still filter through from the specialist shows, especially Future Sounds, which in turn filters through tracks from Future Artists, but on weekends, I can see your point that a lot of the music played is “anthems” type stuff. I think that could be down to the fact that a lot of families listen to R1 at the weekends, perhaps in the car on the way to days out or sports practice or whatever, going by some of the shoutouts on those shows, and the older family members enjoy hearing those tracks. There’s also the “excited for the weekend” feeling from a lot of the audience, and those anthems cater to that mood, especially on Dance Anthems, when people are getting ready for a night out.
  8. Interesting question, I’ve also noticed Capital deviating from their usual playlist of exclusively Top 40 tracks to include a few “throwbacks” from the last 15 years or so, usually at least one an hour (still a low number of unique tracks in high rotation mind you), which suggests that the target audience, particularly those that they survey for music testing purposes, want to hear older songs. It also makes the station presumably more attractive to advertisers. Radio 1 must have access to BBC Sounds data that tells them what young people are choosing to listen to, especially on the “Back To Back Sounds” section, includes a decent amount of older songs, and are reflecting it in the station’s output.
  9. Found an archived image of the Yalding House record library, from January 2005
  10. In regards to Steve Wright, it’s worth noting that his “Serious Jockin” podcast which had a placeholder episode claiming it would restart soon has now disappeared from BBC Sounds. I believe the plan was for there to be a new episode published every Friday at 9am starting in November, which has been and gone, and now it has disappeared completely. I expect this means there has been a development in his contractual situation?
  11. I’d imagine they don’t want people to immediately compare them to Scott and Chris so are giving time for people to get used to them
  12. Scott and Chris. Thank you both for entertaining the nation. I first discovered the show during Moyles’ 52 hour Comic Relief show, which introduced me to the legendary Innuendo Bingo, a feature I have loved ever since, especially the late night edition on the first Lolathon in 2017, an absolutely hilarious piece of radio which I listen back to fondly. You have both been there when I was at my lowest, cheering me up and making me feel part of something very special, for which I feel immensely grateful. It will be such a shame to see you both move on to pastures new but I wish you the best of luck. Love you bye. Lewis (radio1fan) (Note to Jono: hope this isn’t too long)
  13. Late night Innuendo Bingo, Lolathon 2017. Need I say more?
  14. Are you sure about that? Greg has congratulated them all on his own twitter, one of many examples.
  15. Matt and Mollie in for Greg tomorrow morning (15th June) according to Greg’s Instagram Stories Edit: most likely a joke
  16. I just remembered that ITV are meant to be doing an all-star edition of I’m a Celebrity… in South Africa, which will be fully pre-recorded as a backup in case they can’t make the normal series later in the year for whatever reason. Perhaps Jordan is taking part in that?
  17. For me, it’s the playlist, the presenters and the news output. Radio 1 has a much wider and more varied playlist than its commercial rivals, and I love the fact that they devote more airtime to smaller artists, many of whom just aren’t being played by competing stations. The presenters on Radio 1 are given greater freedom to be themselves on air, rather than having to stick to short and sometimes very infrequent links, which greatly reduces the personality of a presenter in my opinion. Listeners are therefore much more able to connect with presenters, and are often featured as part of their shows. Greg in particular features listeners for much of his show, which is what makes it such a fun and entertaining listen. Newsbeat provides regular bulletins which make the news of the day to more accessible to young people, without any patronisation. Radio 1 are the only radio station I know of that air two long-form (ie longer than 2/3 minutes) news bulletins each weekday, which is therefore a unique service. Overall, Radio 1 know how to make radio interesting and exciting for a generation of people who have many options when it comes to entertainment, and are succeeding at getting them to listen.
  18. The new Newsbeat imaging sounds like something the former 60 Seconds bulletin on BBC Three would have used. It’s much more authoritative and news sounding than the previous imaging to me at least
  19. I always suspected it would come back, especially given the “We lost bingo” remix of the Blessed Madonna song
  20. it’ll only be for one day like the previous one, it’s just that they’ll reveal it later in the week I think This is pretty marmite as Aaron said and there are people on Twitter that don’t even realise it’s a joke, they should probably reveal it ASAP, I don’t think it’s got anywhere near as much wider media coverage as the previous one did. Personally I like the idea but the dares could have been more believable.
  21. They are definitely pushing the limits now as that was so obviously fake, you can tell they were getting their instructions at the same time. I wonder when the official reveal will be, if it’s like the previous one with ITV daytime shows it’ll be ThursdaySuspect it's more Ant and Dec, but you never know if there's some
  22. very true, and also the Radio 1 DJ’s are more well known, and Jordan is part of Takeaway this series so it probably makes for a better item
  23. he pretended to have hiccups during his link at around 8:55am unless I missed it they didn’t ask for bangers contestants so I assume Sara worked for Ant and Dec? I’m actually surprised they didn’t do this with Capital or Heart as there’s links between ITV and Global (Love Island podcast etc) I think it’ll be hard for Vick and Jordan to successfully make it sound like they’ve went mad, as the some of the previous dares would sound pretty normal with them e.g Jordan burped on air last week (I’m not saying they are mad or anything, I love their style)
  24. He was scheduled to headline Dundee 2020 so it could be a good idea to have him headline the Saturday as Ed Sheeran won’t be the headliner due to performing in Cardiff on the same evening
