  1. So...Winkleman it is. If she is taking over Film 2010, she might leave Radio 2. Jo Whiley was in for her at least twice. Jo Whiley won't get any promotion at Radio 1. So might leave Radio 1 to take over Winkleman's arts show. Can anyone see this happening?
  2. The next Radio 1 breakfast DJ will be one of the likes off Greg James, Matt Edmondson, Tom Deacon - a young guy, possibly from outside of the BBC. No one of the age range of Mills or Vernon. you can't have a 38-year old present Radio 1's breakfast show (assuming the next presenter will stay for a few years, of course. I know Mills isn't 38 )
  3. I agree in so far as it is time for a long serving (longer than Coxy who stayed a year or something?) female breakfast show presenter. But Fearne is clearly not the one. Therefore I think it is unlikely that she will even be offered that slot...
  4. Depending on how big the shake-up in September/October will be, never...
  5. not exactly the right direction for me either...
  6. Well I don't particularly like it. Glad it's Wonder Years now.
  7. That Lily-Allen-phone-whatever feature, and Scott with the strange voice...
  8. Wow, this stuff annoys me. Anyway, hi everyone
  9. Okay people, can I ask everyone to either fill in the online survey at http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbctrust/consultations/departments/bbc/bbc-strategy-review/consultation/consult_view, or send an email to either [email protected] or [email protected]. Just a few lines, everyone. Thx, much appreciated
  10. Shame, shame, and what a shame. What makes me hope is more than 80000 people in the facebook group, loads on twitter and a very, very, very slow BBC Trust survey page. I think they will get loads of mail from people disagreeing with the proposed changes. Does everyone know now which party (not) to vote for?
  11. Tragedy also goes the other way round: For many Radio 1 DJs (Jo Whiley, Zane Lowe, Huw Stephens and in fact most of the specialist DJs), 6music would be the natural place to go if Radio 1 decided to end their shows. Not, they have to find another place to work. And I can't imagine anyone of them would enjoy working for commercial Radio.
  12. I don't care about Switch. Annie Mac is great, but she is on Radio 1 anyway.
  13. You're probably right. Two million seems to be way to much to lose in the first few months anyway. Evans' show is alright, it more like the rest of Radio 2's shows, not as outstandingly different as Wogan was. There's a huge difference between these two...
  14. Because the BBC is here to provide service for everyone, not just mainstream stuff. In fact, the BBC should rather cut their mainstream programmes than the specialist ones. Whenever commercial radio or their advocates criticise that the BBC is becoming too powerful with Radio 1 and Radio 2, that's a fair point. But no-one can criticise 6music; its not taking any audiences away from commercial radio. The problem with 6music seems to be that not enough people know it exists. More cross-promotion on Radio 1, 2 and BBC one would help, surely. Cutting costs at the BBC is a dangerous thing. The recent cuts - if they are to occur - will lead to the BBC losing acceptance in the Asian community and in peel-ish music lovers that just feel sickened by the mainstream music output of Radio 1 and 2 and the commercial stations. But this is just the start of it. It also seems that Radio 2 will become a weird jazz-speech-old people-station (slight exaggeration) that's trying to be a bit of everything that's not exactly mainstream. If they are not careful, Radio 2 will also lose audiences. What's next? Getting rid of Switch? Getting rid of all the sports programmes because buying the rights is expensive? The way this is going will see the BBC losing acceptance. The licence fee in general will be questioned far more often. It is not too unlikely that the BBC will shrink more and more and might even be privatised. The likes of Murdoch are just waiting for this to happen. And the Conservatives - well they are not the strongest defenders of the BBC. The BBC is bringing very good services to the people and to the society in general. Its quality of journalism is excellent, probably the best in the world. I strongly believe that a democracy needs a publicly funded journalism/broadcasting institution like the BBC. And indeed one of the size of the current BBC. Not a one-TV-one-radio-station thing that no-one listens to.
  15. Haha, brilliant Well good luck for your Tesco experience then...I get the weird feeling that there is a bit of repetition going in here...anyway...Steve Wright is over, so here I am. The G. oh god.
  16. Hehe, yeah, I was also listening for more than two and a half hours just to get 5 minutes of Moyles. But it wasn't all bad, Steve Wright seems to be a presenter who is good at what he does.
  17. What? Mills is on in a bit. or, in fact, since a bit...has Moyles been on yet? Was away for 15 mins...
  18. So the interiew was recorded and will be played out later. I hate it. Why not say when it will be played out at the beginning of the show?
  19. Actually, Radio 2 surprises me. Massively. They play Glee instead of Journey, the play Empire State of Mind Part II and Pussycat Dolls. I mean...that's Radio 2. Those tracks are played by Radio 1 more often than I would like it. Then I switch to an different station whose target audience is older, whose DJs are older, and they play the same stuff. Seriously, its Radio 2, not 6music, the BBC needs to work on. Edit: the other stuff, Stones and whatnot, was good to hear. It's nice to have something else to listen to, in fact I expected Radio 2 to play loads of music I have never heard before just because I'm young, but they don't...
  20. Signed. And by the way, I like your location
  21. I just read this comment on a guardian messageboard and I totally agree with it: Apart from the cuts at Radio 1 part, of course, this really is a point.
  22. Lauren Laverne is really good, better than Fearne I think. I would love to hear her on Radio 1, possibly in a documentary/Interview sort of thing. She would not really fit into daytime Radio 1 line up...
