  1. Well for the BBC it's a cost cut thing; once Radio 1 has moved, they have one building less to care about. Also, in the video webchat thing Andy Parfitt siad something about their current building having been a car showroom or repair shop or something, so it wasn't really designed to be a place to produce radio shows from in the first place.
  2. That's Broadcasting House, London. To the right is the traditional, actual Broadcasting House, the picture is taken from one of the new buildings. I didn't know Radio 1 will be going to move in there, thought it would just be News and Radio 4/5Live. But then, Andy Parfitt made some allegations in his webchat a few weeks back. Does anyone know if Radio 2 will move? That place will have to be massive. Radio 1 has it's own (well, almost) five-storey building at the moment...
  3. I hate pre-recorded shows. But then, that will be the only time of the year where I get to listen to all the Scott Mills podcasts I downloaded.
  4. Fiasco sums it up quite well. Someone being off ill on short notice happens, you won't be able to prevent that. But you should have a plan in order to deal with the situation. It's quite easy to "book" a stand-in presenter for every live show, just in case. Even if you just need to use an alternative plan once or twice a year...we are talking national BBC Radio here, not Viking FM. No-one would care about the latter, but I wouldn't be surprised it loads of people switched to different stations yesterday. What a news junction that was at 1130...disaster Producer Rachel's first real challenge, I guess.
  5. Sara Cox is off today. I read on Twitter that Edith would be doing a double-shift. But what's actually hapenning is this: Between 1100 and 1200, they broadcast pre-recorded stuff from the Big Weekend, with Vernon presenting. From 1200 to 1300, a Chris Moyles best-of-guests is being played out. They have pre-recorded bits from Edith inbetween, announcing that it's prerecorded. And how bad is it done: just before 1200, a Big Weekend record of JLS' "The Club is alive" was played. The second song in the pre-recorded Moyles part was...you're right: JLS' "The Club is alive". Also, mistakes in time planning: they had to end a record half-way through to broadcast the news, with the news jingle crashing into pre-recorded Edith. Sounds like amateur's work. How utterly disappointing. Don't they check these things? And should a national BBC radio station like Radio 1 not be able to find a replacement for a Sunday mid-day show in the first place?
  6. I don't know what to think about this, but I personally would like Chris to stay in the UK...
  7. In a few weeks time, the BBC will probably reveal a list of artists who they suppose are going to be big in 2011. Remembering last year, you could sort of already see that Ellie Goulding or Marina and the Diamonds would play a certain role. But at the moment, I don't really have a clue as to who might be on that list. After thinking for a while, the only names that came to my mind were Katy B and Magnetic Man. They (and their genre, dubstep) got a bit of a hype recently... Any ideas? Who might end up on the BBC Sound of 2011 list? And who might be on top?
  8. Zane mentioned on Twitter that he would announce one of the albums earlier. And he already did: MASTERPIECE Number One: JAY Z 'THE BLACK ALBUM'. (http://twitter.com/zanelowe/status/29693784306)

    #R1AAA

Did I just not find it or is there seriously no thread about Access all Areas on here yet? (I am still a bit confused by the site update...) Anyway, I think this years AAA was well worth listening to/watching/getting in touch with. I was able two watch about 30-60 minutes of the Moyles tour, and it was great seeing Chris and the team interacting with the audience. And I think it was a great idea taking the show into theatres - theatres are nice places, and the stage provides space for loads of things. Carpark Catchphrase on stage - really good stuff... Last year, I was strangely addicted to the cameras that were scattered all over the Radio 1 offices. It would have been nice to have that again, but then probably there were simply no ressources available to to that sort of video streaming additionally to Moyles on tour and the video webchats that were done. The biggest and best thing for me this year undoubtedly were the webchats with off-air staff. Getting this insight into the legendary thing that is Radio 1 was just great. Some very funny moments in there too, my favourite being Laura-May's "Bieber fever is a serious condition - it's worse than swine flu...". Still makes me laugh. Rhys the Boss answered two of my questions...excitement everywhere inside my head Also, getting the bosses do webchats was interesting, because you really got an idea of how those people who decide about everything are actually like. Compared to that, I didn't find the Newsbeat and Music days as exciting. Still, as a tech-geek, watching how newsbeat is made was interesting. We had the playlist thing last year, so that didn't really catch my interest (I didn't have that much free time that day, so might have missed things...) As for the Maida Vale video, I think there could have been a bit more. I remember having seen a video about the Maida Vale studios as a whole, probably when Maida Vale celebrated its don't-know-which birthday. In that video, they showed a bit more about the studios and got more Maida Vale people to talk about its history - where John Peels Sessions were done etc. That's not exactly a Radio 1 thing, but still very interesting to see for a proper geek All in all, a massive "whoop whoop" to all those who made this years AAA happen. Great week of Radio, great stuff online, proper geekiness all around. Very much looking forward to next year
  10. whooooops mmh, I hope I will get used to this. Jono, you should consider two changes: First, there is not much going on in the banner, due to the massive size. Second, also size-related, I would appreciate if you could set a fixes width for the page. I don't really like it if a site uses the whole screen. If you use a widescreen, it feels like miles from the left side of a posting to the right side... The BBC sites have a width of about 1000 pixels, which is absolutely sufficient, I think...
  11. Haha...just iPlayer'd it. That's what Richard Bacon would call good Radio: when you can't switch off... I found it a bit irritating. Chris was right, though... http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/b00v4s97/Fearne_Cotton_Thursday_The_Pit_Sniff_Test
  12. I think this could be a true story. After so many years, Moyles may want to go and try new things at new stations, without facing restrictions by BBC editorial policies... Also, both Moyles' and Mills' contracts run out next year. For Radio 1 this is a unique chance to develop the station for the first time in almost ten years (assuming that bringing Fearne and Greg in have only been minor changes...). I personally don't think we will see Scott taking over breakfast. I imagine next year, at least one new DJ will be brought to Radio 1 from somewhere outside of Radio 1 to do either breakfast or drive...
  13. The Guardian continues its witch-hunt. They now pretty much reach the Mail's level... http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010/sep/27/chris-moyles
  14. This woman - by the way, the Guardian has better radio critics than that woman - is just giving him a tit for tat, isn't she? He mentions her on air, so she feels the need to write a comment in the Guardian. Seriously... I'm absolutely with Chris in this matter: why is this news, exactly? Isn't there anything else going on in the world? This supposed "30-min-rant" is a pure exaggeration. In the first half our of the wednesday's show, they played the cheesy song twice (the first being the Thursday-cheesy-song), and about half of the discussion was about missing milk and Johnny Vaughn's breakfast hampers. During the remaining 10 minutes or so, Chris talked about not being paid. Much less spectacular than I ecpected, after reading about the "30 minute on-air rant". Not every radio presenter would talk about payment issues on air, fine. But starting this witch-hunt all over again, every time, when Chris does something rather unusual on air...seriously, these press people need to get a life.
  15. There should be a zoom thing in the bottom right corner...
  16. Well it didn't exactly make my day, but the course of that conversation make me laugh out. loud.
  17. Greg went to daytime, Scott went to weekends but got the afternoon show quite quickly I think. JK and Joel just did the chart and that was it - and theit career on radio 1 came to an end. Dev, for some reason, was moved from weekends to early breakfast.
  18. Nemone ist at 6music now; she used to do Early Breakfast before JK and Joel took over. Edit: speaking of which, they also didn't really get anywhere apart from the Charts...
  19. Thing is, Chris still didn't sound very well on monday, you could hear he was ill with a heavy cold. So I can imagine that his week off was simply due to that cold and nothing else.
  20. Donna, I really don't understand why you keep posting the same message several times a day on all social networks available. Everyone frequently visiting this site will by now have noticed your message. There is no point in repeating it all the time. And maybe you will understand that it is just not happening, no matter how often you repeat your point. No one is booking guests just because someone (a single person) on a website keeps demanding it.
  21. Are you sure about this? I'm think they still press the play buttons themselves rather than letting the system do it...
  22. there are three hints, but sometimes it's hard to tell.a) the webcam may be switched off (but it is also switched off during outside broadcasts; or it may be switched on, but then you won't see anybody in the studio) no texts and emails are read out and there are no phone calls (however when Coxy's Lie in was pre-recorded they did do phone calls, but still no texts and emails) c) the DJ sounds bored. Presenting a show knowing millions of people are listening right now is totally different than knowing that no-one is actually listening and it's just going on tape. Between Christmas and New Year many shows are pre-recorded (Best of Big Weekend, Movies stuff etc), and you notice that there's just no excitement in the voice of the DJs News are always live, so news is the most interesting bit. News readers have a time window to read the news when a show is prerecorded (two minutes I think). Sometimes there is a 5 seconds silence because the news reader was too fast, sometimes he crashes the beginning of the next recorded bit when he was too slow. Whenever these things happen it's safe to say a show is recorded.
  23. Has anyone else got a clue? I'm still obsessed with that music but can't find it. I have been listening to "top 10 disney music themes" for hours now Apparently he uses that theme every day at the beginning of his show, but that's all I found out so far... Edit: found it. The Great Escape was a close guess. It's actually off of "The Magnificent Seven", by the same composer. 's a link. (probably you won't care, but I'm kind of happy that I founf it )
  24. Geeks, I need your help. I'm trying to find out the name of the tune Chris Evans started his show with on friday, It's played directly after the opening jingle, at aroung 1:35. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00tcx5d/The_Chris_Evans_Breakfast_Show_13_08_2010/ Does anyone of you know?
