    "Scotland Is"

Funnily enough Nati went to Glasgow University, spent 4 years there - and loved it - and is anything but a scot-hating boring paella chomping whatnot, actually having an enduring fondness for the place and people. Her username is even based on her favourite venue in Glasgow... I think that her post was more an ironic remark on the trails to be honest, rather than any attempt at scot (or Viv) bashing. As for making negative comments in a thread, need we even mention your more directly negative remarks in Kizmok's baby thread (among others)? And posting 'I hate Nati' in the shoutbox is a bit OTT don't you think? It says much more about you than anyone or anything else. Back on topic, I'm not a fan of the trailers as they're overlong and don't really generate much interest for me.
  2. Thanks for the birthday wishes all. Haven't been around here so much recently, but I appreciate it. Thanks!
  3. You're right Viv, it was. It's clean now though.
  4. If it was hacked, the hosts have redirected anyone going there to the single page app advert - which contains no scripts, no off-domain redirects, no suspect cross-site css, nothing that could drop malware on your pc. Well now, anyhow.
  5. Listening to Scott Mills's Last Show on Earth - excellent stuff. Zane and Scott are always good together, and it's been an honest and interesting show. If you didn't catch it live, definitely worth a listen again...
  6. I'm with John on this - like it (even though it's throwaway fluff). Really stupid but funny video - it'll be that that gets it sales. I know next time I hear it I'll be thinking of zombiesque dancing...
  7. Donated. It's a good cause - my sister survived breast cancer, and frankly anything supporting treatment or awareness for any form of this horrible illness (1 in 3 of us will be exposed to it, just to remind you) is all good.
  8. 8/10. I enjoyed it and thought it was refreshing to see Scott openly acknowledging the fact he is gay - the first time anywhere I've really seen this; but also reminding us how it's just not a big deal in this country for him (and others too in my experience) and that he's able to just get on with his life and not have any effect on his popularity or career choice. As it should be. It's saddening that the Ugandan aversion to homosexuality appears to be propagated by so called religious leaders. As someone else said, where's the good thinking in that? How is that 'Christian'? Bleurgh.
  9. That's horribly sad news Bumble, I'm really sorry to hear this. Keep your chin up if you possibly can - best wishes. Tx
  10. Wishing you a belated Happy Birthday John - hope it was a great one!
  11. I saw the 'offending' comments on the Stargazing show, and found them hilarious. Also, another popular cosmologist (Carl Sagan) wrote and presented a number of things debunking astrology (easily findable on youtube), along with comments on people slavishly following certain religious (ridiculous?) doctrines. The absence of demonstrable or provable fact really doesn't seem to matter to a lot of people. Anyone for a little Creationism? I still can't believe it's being taught in some US schools...
  12. I'll echo Doovde's comments about closing H2G2 - losing this ongoing legacy to the late great Douglas Adams will be a real shame, even though it has been superceded now as you say... I wonder what SamTheInternetGuy's thoughts are on all this generally?
  13. A bronze and a silver - thanks all, I'm honoured...
  14. Want to give access to confidential local files on a PC after only visiting a website with Internet Explorer? This sounds like just yet another scare story, but with good cause - it is very serious, and I would urge you not to ignore it. A flaw in the overall design of IE which is NOT patchable with yet another 'critical update' makes it relatively simple (for those that are keen enough at least) to gain access to local files on your PC. If you haven't already, switch to another browser on any PC you access or store confidential data. The original articles at Black Hat detailing the precise attack vectors are currently offline, but you can get a flavour of the problem from http://www.taranfx.com/ie-flaw-public-files
  15. So do we get to see the results?
  16. Happy Birthday Helen - hope your day has been devilishly good... Many happy returns!
  17. Wishing everyone on UM all the best for Christmas... Here's hoping you all have a happy and peaceful (or loud, if you prefer it that way) holiday time.
  18. With enough caution (read EVERYTHING about it first)' date=' don't bother to wait for your network to release an update - just do it yourself... [url']http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=678
  19. Forgot how much exposure they gave you Rob (and your curtains, and socks) - very funny. Reminds me though how much I enjoyed Scott and Chappers' repartee...
  20. Happy Birthday gorgeous. Only another year to go until the big one now - which I'll be starting on the planning for imminently! Many happy returns, and lots of love as always. Txx
  21. Alles gueti zum geburtsdag! Many happy returns and I hope you're still having a great day after your call from Dev this morning...
  22. Happy Birthday Emma! Hope you have a wonderful day - many happy returns...
  23. This is such a shame, he was a brilliant comic actor who I loved in Police Squad, Airplane and the Naked Gun films. RIP

    Snow

Lots of snow yesterday, but even more today - pretty much didn't stop all morning through to early afternoon. Driving into Leeds not so much a problem, but getting home - crikey! People round here seem to lose their minds when it comes to driving in snowy conditions. The number of people WAY too close behind just amazes me - they've obviously never had to deal with insurance companies much... It all looks wonderful, but it's a right royal pain in the a**se at the moment. Especially as I'm on-call and may have to go back in at any time - with no buses or taxis operating, it only leaves driving really as it's too far to walk, and that means digging the car back out again. As I'm sure John would confirm, this is one of the NHS's busiest times, so you just have to be there day to day. Meh! (but I secretly like it all really!)
