  1. I like the way he drags everything oouuuttt in a Welsh styleee.
  2. If they get this right it could be fantastic. Chris Moyles had Tony Blackburn on his breakfast show in 2007 for 40 years, and Radio 1 had their DJ's talk to and pick up stories of Radio 1's long history. I make no bones about the fact that I'm a big fan of Mark & Lard's old show. Love them or hate them, nobody did or has since done a radio show quite like theirs was. Or in my view hasn't been as close to as funny. It'd be incredible if they asked them to do a one off reunion for this with their own playlist of songs from their Radio 1 days possibly, they both still are working for the BBC afterall at 6 Music. Or at least involve them in some way. Saying this, I'm skeptical of it all. I get the feeling sometimes that the Radio 1 heiarchy believe the world was only started up in 2009, and they seem to be ashamed somewhat of a history they should be proud of. So all in all we'll get some over rated bel end like Frank Ocean or a Ken West special live lounge. And that's about it.
  3. True. Then I think you had to be a specific type of audience to like them. You could usually associate their listeners more towards uni students and maybe 6th formers than Radio 1's younger crop at the time. Hence why afternoons were perfect. That and people were more awake to deal with their style. Matt is ok from what I've heard of him. But with the decline of the Breakfast show post Moyles, Radio 1 need to relaunch with something big. I think they may poach new talent for this.
  4. That won't happen. As much as I don't see how Danny's show is actually "Dance Anthems" when it's loads of fresh and mostly unreleased new dance music. Unlike Dave Pearce's version which was well established dance tracks that everyone knew. Radio 1 has always had a dance show in that time for years. Remember, Judge Jules used to be there from the late 90's into the early 2000's, and then moved to 7-9 on a Saturday night. It is at the perfect time as people are getting ready to go out. I do think Danny's show needs to be renamed though as it's a bit misleading with loads of upfront tunes. Maybe bring in a new presenter and put Dance Anthems on a Sunday evening, playing erm dance anthems. Where it always should of been.
  5. I think there has to be a change on Breakfast for starters, losing Moyles was a big blow and Radio 1 haven't really recovered since. Sadly there's nobody at Radio 1 in the wings right now to grab the bull by the horns and take things back like he did in 2003 after Sara Cox.
  6. I just looked aannnddd.... I'VE HAD A MESSAGE FROM MARA TOO!!! I feel so special.
  7. That's one reflective African spammer in his tin shed there.
  8. I like the way it was signed off, going to use that on any professional emails I write. HAPPY TO READ FROM YOUBYE....
  9. Moyles took me there really, can't stand Grimmy at that time of the morning or any time of day really.
  10. Back to April 2002 for an edition of Lard's Classic Cuts. Where master vinyl collector Marc Riley would spin a "mint condition" classic on Radio 1. Skip to 7:09 for just the classic cut without the chatter. This one is from Elvis Presley. I remember hearing this live and laughing so much my sides hurt.
  11. I'm down with the movers and the shakers these days. I was sent Cake By The Ocean by DNCE earlier this year, before it started to gain momentum in the UK. It was getting a lot of airplay at that time in the U.S. on mainstream stations like WTMX Chicago, one i usually drop into via a proxy (as it's supposed to be blocked outside the U.S.) The Aurora track is pretty good, on the Radio 1 playlist at the moment. I like Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, the one they play on Radio X at the moment. Think it's called 'You Know We Can't Go Back'.

  13. AlunaGeorge's new one called 'Mean What I Mean'. Was only sent it this week on promo from Island Records, will probably make the Radio 1 playlist next month/September.

No plans this year, last one I went to was Global Gathering 2 years ago. Fufilled a life long ambition to see the Prodigy. A lot of those friends have moved away since or just grown up. And at 28 I'm not young anymore so I feel those days are gone.

  16. With England V Wales coming up in the euro's I thought there wouldn't be a better time to put this on. Mark & Lard, Downcount sometime in summer 2002. An anti English Welshman calls in to play the quiz. "We are getting over-run Mark! We are riddled with arrogant English buffoons coming over here! Riding our prestigious railways, drinking in our pubs. And.... TALKING TO US!!!" On winning the prize of dinner with the Queen: "Your very kind Mark. Although I'd rather stick my family jewel in my mothers mangle, than have dinner with the symbol of English tyranny!"
  17. Moyles on the 80's Fudge Tunnel. Chris Moyles here back in August 2003. Spending the first 20 mins of the afternoon show mimicking Heart FM, with "DJ CM on the 80's fudge tunnel". And one George Benson record. Remember listening to this live and laughing my head off, the fact that the whole team struggle to keep it together makes it even better!
  18. The original 'whoooooo!' came from one of Mark & Lard's daft quizzes called 'It's a Mystery', they did that way back in 2000/2001. Scott has been doing it himself for well over 10 years.
  19. Scott Mills: Thursday 8th November 2007, 9 years ago this year. My god, seems like yesterday.:- https://www.dropbox.com/s/23fl2imteiuyllh/Scott%20Mills%20Thursday%208th%20November%202007.mp3?dl=0 It'd take me an age to upload everything I have, over 70GB in shows. But I can get away with a one off like this. That for example at 170MB took me the best part of 35 minutes. I find it amazing Radio 1 play Led Zeppelin on here, and of course Zane goes on to play an entire album. There were things about Radio 1 that were hit and miss for me in the mid 2000's, but there'd be no chance of something like this happening today.
  20. I have this full show in the archive, Thursday 8th November 2007. Straight out of Newsbeat at 5pm, he gets about 1 min 30 into track 2 before the phone call comes in. Then he plays 'Sometimes' in full about 10 mins later whilst Zane answered the phone.
  21. Flirt Divert, Camp Man was good as well. I liked Laura's Diary, it's something that I shouldn't like but actually did. The on hold thing (can't remember the proper name) was another. Scott calling up an estate agent pretending to be Mika, singing Grace Kelly in an incredibly camp way is on here somewhere as an mp3.
  22. They did do some form of advert for Manchester City about 2009 way, years after that article was written (the sun article was a few months after their final Radio 1 show so is getting on now). Nothing since this but it restores slight hope.
  23. That seriously, I started getting dressed for school again when his song was on the radio.
  24. Still staggers me to see Craig David on that lineup, I could of sworn I woke up in 2000 when he came back on the scene.
  25. The new site design also reminds me of the Radio 1 site about 12 years ago. Nostaligia!
