    Ask Chris and Jordan

Capital Radio's breakfast presenters have been really chuffed with the lovely comments you've left about the programme, and they want to give something back. So next week they've offered to come on the forums and answer some of your questions. Get your thinking caps on and post your questions for Chris and Jordan here. And who knows, they might rope Sian into it too. They'll have the licence to answer what they want, and I'm sure you have plenty of questions!

  2. It’s not necessarily the fact that Jamie is posh. It’s that the show seems to be really keen to play on it. Within 10 minutes of their first show they were playing voice notes from his Celeb mates. Compare that to Vick and Jordan’s first week in September 2021; their first links were about Jordan’s awkward encounter with his plumber and Vick slapping a roast chicken. And then on Monday this week, Jamie is sulking (exaggerated sulking admittedly) about something, this ultimately being that another of his celeb mates has cancelled his appearance on their show, and they’re literally reading out texts such as ‘I’m sure this is going to be relatable to the entire population.’

  3. I hate reverse snobbery and I post this reluctantly as we shouldn't hold Jamie's background against him, but I do think many listeners will find it hard to identify with Jamie. One of the things that made Jordan so popular was he sounded like the mate you go for a pint with who always has a great story to tell.

    When is Scott back?

He's alive and doing Calgon promotion! Those five weeks off have to pay somehow

  5. Of all the times not mention capital it's probably now? Jordan is flying on breakfast with chris & sian and there's a presenter on friday and saturday that doesn't know who a main r1 artist, tldp are. Mentions capital which surely has to be a big no no given recent events and then says the licence fee goes to me. Talk about vom. We can't have it on here no more as it's that unlistenable and I'm about to switch back for m&m, but this is a Maya Jama x50 level mess of a show. Forget fading the microphone down, the entire show needs fading down

  8. What an intro! Interesting how they're starting with Nia Archives 'Baiana' (a song which has been out for a year or so). Does that mean they are bringing a new mix of older and newer tracks? And is the hottest record now at it's old time of 6.30?

  9. The point I was making is this is not content made for entertainment it was a product placement. There is a difference between the two. It not a fun idea that people have brought to air for a laugh. It was designed to look like mates having fun and come up with this idea but it was just a advert. That why I say it feel false.

  10. End of week one. It's a great show actually and whilst we'd probably like some more of "chaotic Jordan" it sounds close to flawless for a new show. I am sure it helps a lot that Jordan already knew Chris and Sian well. Capital must be delighted as I am sure Roman would have been there for as long as he wanted so it must be great to have such a smooth transition.

  11. Fantastic loving the new breakfast show so far! Jordan, Chris and Sian are really natural together, but I won’t always be able to listen to the full show. Are there any plans for a podcast/best bits of the breakfast show for those of us who have fomo please?

  13. It's more engaging than I imagined Capital breakfast to be. Like others said, I haven't heard Roman much to compare it. It sounds like Sian and Chris have more leadership on air.

    Greg James' apology

Clearly no offence was intended, Greg has apologised and learnt a lesson, that's the end of it as far as I am cocerned. I think on all these topics we need to distinguish between the behaviour of hate and poorly thought out comments. The first raises serious questions of what roles a person should be in and the second is a learning curve. We live in a more and more complex world and we could all fall foul of saying something stupid sometime without thinking.

  15. Undoutedly the show annoys the bigots who don't like them for what they are. However, I simply don't like the show as it feels poor quality and out of sync with the sound of the station.

    Arielle Free's wedding

Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false. Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global? He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC. Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful? It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going. Roman and Jordan have the same management team. Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC. They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer. They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him. If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker. Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan. None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones. It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.

    Danny Beard's Radio 1 show

What a nightmare link at 11.15am this morning. Spent 30 seconds waffling about the name of The Last Dinner Party as if he’d never heard it before, then started mentioning Capital and the license fee, and how it’s been used to pay for him to be there, and was then cut off by the start of the next song.

  20. It's got more of a Fri/ Sat feeling to it, for me. But there's nothing inherently wrong with the show.

  21. Felt awkward to start the programme with Newsbeat talking about where they discover new music - and most people saying TikTok. Nice throwbacks to Zane Lowe, Annie Mac and Clara Amfo at the start of the show.

    Distracting DJs

Not sure what it really means, but Scott Mills is one of the least distracting DJs according to new research. https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article-13283609/Most-distracting-radio-podcast-hosts-driving-revealed-Mark-Wright-Chris-Evans-list.html It says Radio 1 though, which is not only inaccurate, but also I can only imagine it applying to his Radio 2 show. How many sounds effects did he used to play on Radio 1, ha.

    Jack Saunders' new show

Absolutely, Jack is such an incredible broadcaster already, incredibly entertaining with such brilliant music knowledge and his excitement is contagious, I've never really listened to New Music Shows like Future Sounds but I'm instantly invested in new music due to his show, as I'm sure many others are too. yes the effects are a little strange but after listening back they're strangely charming when you get used to them.

    Jack Saunders' new show

Jack has smashed it He was born for this show, he said he’d been dreaming of it and you could tell. Such passion and energy as always with Jack but in a show that can grab people’s attention and drag them down the rabbit hole of new music if you had a keen interest in discovering new music but haven’t in a while, new music shows can be alienating with no familiarity until you ‘get into it’ - the new show has ensured you can ease into to get back into sync . i love the Zane influences - he will be the forefront of where every emerging and returning artist wants to be with this show . Very excited for this chapter

  26. Jack excellent so far and this is what a Radio 1 new music show should be. But the 'falling down a well' echo repeating what Jack just said will hopefully just be a short-term thing - it's 15 minutes in and already starting to irritate me. Or should I say irritatemeRITTATEMErittateme Jack doesn't need a gimmick like that - he's excellent as he is.

  27. I think tracks like the NewEra Birds in the Sky one sort of highlight my issue with the Radio 1 playlist perfectly. Surely as a new music station it's the sort of song Radio 1 should be championing - a new Irish DJ duo with a song that is exploding in popularity and is right on brand with Radio 1 and has now reached the Top 20. Ticks all the boxes and has got a fair bit of play on shows Dance Party or Party Anthems. Yet months after its release it's only now reaching the C-List and making its way to daytime and with it being on the C-List will only probably be played a handful of times across the week. Whereas artists like Royal Blood say seem to get an open pass to the playlist.

  28. That or Connor Coates or Charlie Tee. If there is a specific designated live dance show across digital radio and BBC Sounds able to be plugged into cars, at home and in public spaces which are how Radio 1’s listeners mostly listen to the station live that isn’t a simulcast. The station could consider to not play many dance tracks in that morning slot to give distinctions between the two programmes. It would be interesting if this could also be the time where Charlie Hedges leaves Rickie and Melvin to become the DJ for this morning show with Rickie & Melvin for weekend afternoons and something different for mid-mornings all together on the flagship 1 station

  29. I hate to be that guy but we all know the Greggs thing was pre arranged days if not weeks in advance? It wasn't a spare of the moment thing by Chris and the convo about it was pre panned and not in the moment thing. It was an ad deal. One big ad for Greggs which they paid Capital for. This is why radio should state Product Placement just like TV. Radio 1 can't do these things for a reason. For me this what makes the show sound fake because it's a false thing pretending it all happened over night. Greggs would have to order on extra stuff to make it happen. You can't do that in 24 hrs. There will be more of these deals. I bet there will be a few Gregg "surprise" things happen over time. Other brands as well.

  30. Today is the second day listening back, and I really am enjoying it. For me, it’s partly the Chris Stark factor though, I always loved his ability to take a silly idea to the next level. Getting the CEO of Greggs on the show to roll out a Jordan special, to give just one example.

  32. Listening to the whole show it was actually a great fresh listen. It was very very busy with lots of first show stunts but still little nods to the Jordan we loved on Radio 1. Also, immediately he feels at ease with Chris and Asian. He definitely feels more slick and professional though.

  33. Do you mean they have a long into like Greg or that actual jingles sounds very much like Greg jingles?

  34. Shows how little I listened! There's a lot of music, as per usual, but evidently that's Capital style. It's certainly an easy listen. Jordan confusing Skepsis and sepsis Not sure how many of those we'll get - he seems to have a much more professional stance here. One thing is clear there's a lot of choice for Radio 1 listeners of a certain age if they did want something different. I could happily listen to Moyles or Jordan, Global's offering has certainly improved.

  35. Yes, I do think on socia;l media theres that mentality still there. I do think on social media theres a bit of an on-line wolf whistle from when I see people talking about Maya. I think that there still is a thing in the TV where people who are seen as good looking are more likely to get jobs.

Mine was Grimmy, on his drivetime show in 2020. I’d passively listened for about a year prior to this, mainly Greg on breakfast and Scott on the chart, and then sometimes Dev and Alice on the weekend as well, but this was my first use of the BBC Sounds app: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000mqz0 At the end of that week, I heard Jordan for the first time when he covered Grimmy. I’d heard him a few times before and thought he was alright but really enjoyed that, so started listening to him as well just before he went on I’m a Celeb. So it was Grimmy and Jordan at first!

  41. I think had Danny been booked as a one off or co-host for only a weekends worth of shows it would’ve been fine. I can see how Aled would want to book them to show commitment to supporting queer and non-binary talent from the queer community and culture scene. But over the years of take-overs there are many good talented LGBTQ+ in the radio industry. Just want to politely remind that their pronouns are they/them.

  44. Jamie is definitely very divisive though. Some people's "radio comedy gold" is other people's "unlistenable". I have liked Matt and Mollie, Matt on his own, Mollie and Jordan etc etc. But couldn't listen to Matt with Jamie. No hate on Jamie but I just don't like his sense of humour.

  48. I don't think Dean and Vicky was the long term plan for the show. Replacing Mills and Stark was always an impossible job for whoever took it on and would have had flak for it. I think they wanted someone in that was far away from that show ready for now. I don't know if Matt and Mollie were always the intended recipients of it or if they had someone else planned. At the time there was a lack of quality available besides Matt and Mollie and maybe they wanted to give Dean and Vicky airtime as they have big plans for them moving forward

    BBC needs more Scott

There a reason commercial radio don't want the BBC to launch new stations. It would allow Radio 2 to split making a older station and develop the current Radio 2 more for our generation. It would make Radio 2 very appealing which is not what they want. I hope the BBC wins because we need more radio for us.
