Hello- Radio 1 listener since 2009 (although I've recently been listening to some Mark and Lard and Moyles shows from 2004), forum lurker since shortly after, and now I've decided to take the plunge and finally sign up!

(By the way, what's happened to Viv and Doovde, I haven't seen their bickering on the forum for ages!)

Welcome along! Real nice to see someone who has some time for the history of Radio 1 as well as the current/future.

I guess they moved on, the forum sadly is dead compared to 2005 - 2008. I guess people move on, but I don't think the social media boom past those dates helps forums these days. It's not quite the same, as people don't communicate as they would on here.

on the grid.

Long time lurker! Decided I would finally join the forums. Long time Radio 1 listener and Scott Mills fan from Glasgow.

I've met the man twice but the first time I accidentally hit him with a shoe and the second time I was very drunk and almost swore live on Radio 1. So, yeah, not the best first (or second) impression to make but hopefully your first (and second) impression of me won't be as bad.

Hello there. I'm in America and I'm a Scott MIlls newbie -- but I am so, so hooked. I was aware of him as the guy who sometimes subbed in for Nick Grimshaw on the Breakfast Show, and I enjoyed listening to him, but within the past week or so he just clicked for me, and now I've been binge-watching Innuendo Bingos and binge-listening to the podcasts while at work. Still trying to catch up on recent stuff before diving into the older podcasts, thank you to this site for feeding my addiction.

Just recently discovered this website and so happy I did.

Firstly I'd like to congratulate the entire site team on a wonderful job you have done with the website - especially the impressive podcast archive which I really appreciate and will be delving into as soon as I have written this!

Secondly, it's so nice to find a place that I can come to outside of the hours that I listen to Radio 1 (weekdays 1-7pm!) - you all seem such a friendly bunch and I shall look forward to joining in with the discussions :)

Hello! Hope you enjoy using the site and chatting to us all. You could say it's like chrismoyles.net but without all the self-importance.

Notable users are Jono (founder, owner, and everything else), newsbeat (not active anymore but loads of great posts), TMD_24 (good opinions) and OohErr, one of my favourites primarily for his (her?) username. Still to this day, I think it's Greg James in disguise.

Welcome to page 69 of this thread, too. ;)

Hi should have introduced myself. I am Lee, from Sussex. Radio enthusiast, mage geek, and very keen listener to R1 daytimes, fan of Scott's show and admire his career, as well as other R1 presenters. Was early 20's in the "go to work with Moyles and come home with Mills" era.

Love chatting to you guys and finding out loads of stuff from the knowledge here, great site, am also on the Moyles version.

Thought it about time to say hi,long time listener to the podcast mainly as i don't get much time at work for anything but podcasts and in the minority as half of the music isn't really my cup of tea.

Haven't listened to breakfast since CM days and couldn't be happier for Greg getting the job.

Scott is by far my favorite R1 dj and was amazing with Laura to start then chappers and Beccy have had me in stitches many times and got a lot of strange looks because of them, as for stark not so much.

This is a great site giving hours of enjoyment, hosting the podcasts as well, i thank you all for that.

Always lovely to hear from someone enjoying the podcasts - takes a lot of work but it pays off when people say they're enjoying it all!

Hi everyone!

My name is Isaac and I’m currently a Computer Science student. I am also a massive radio geek as well – I’ve been listening to Radio 1 now for 6 years and to The Official Chart for nearly 6 and a half years.

I’ve been a long time lurker on this forum (5 years I think!) and I’ve loved reading the comments and posts about Radio 1 ever since I found this. I’ve always wanted to join in the fun with comments and posts of my own but I’ve either delayed putting it off or been too shy to make a move. Hopefully, with everything strange going on, now is the right time.

I look forward to getting more involved with the forum during times of big discussion here, whatever happens to Radio 1. Maybe a new presenter might join. Maybe Scott Mills will do 9 years in the afternoons. Maybe Jordan North will get the primetime slot he deserves. But for now … thanks for having me!

    • Radio 1 generation meaning??  Today's 10-30 yr-olds? I doubt it. They'll still know Pete Tong though, because he is rhyming slang!
    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock. 6th May schedule has updated to show that the Radio 1 Big Weekend Shows will now be the following: 6am-10am 10am-2pm 2pm-6pm 6pm-8pm Still no presenters listed.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
    • Just watched that advert and it made me realise quite how many 'big' specialist presenters there were back then
    • I've been reminded of this Radio 1 cinema advert. I remember being so excited to see it. The In New Music We Trust era. Everything felt so cool, even if they had Westwood.
    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
