Radio 1 Schedule Changes

How crazy is this - assuming Scott bridges the gap between Grimmy and Greg, he will have done it for FIVE breakfast show hosts - he first did it between Zoe Ball finishing and Sara Cox starting, then again between Coxy and Moyles, then Moyles and Grimmy and now (hopefully) Grimmy and Greg. Amazing.

I might even dig out and edit the shows from Scott Mills's "shortest breakfast show ever" back in 2012.

And then Jordan's filling in for Matt all weekend too! He's a busy boy. And Adele's on all next weekend too - back on earlies on Friday, Dance Anthems on Saturday and weekend breakfast on Sunday. The schedule for Monday week isn't up yet, so we don't know who's on drive that week.

Its Dev and Alice again that week according to Digiguide, off the top of my head I think they’re doing the week after too, but i might be making that up

EDIT: Dev and Alice are doing WB 6th too, Adele seems to be covering their Sunday show every week until the schedules goes back to normal!

Ah that's a shame, a week or two of Jordan on drive would've been nice and a great opportunity for him.

I agree, I can’t see why he isn’t first choice because it surely would be more convenient to have him on over Dev and Alice as he only does 1 show a week.

Also, I’ve just realised Jordan has covered every weekday show on the schedule in just this year! Not a lot of DJs have the chance to that!

Nick Bright is doing The 8th tonight and Dev on the Tuesday so a double shift for Dev on Tuesday. Jordon is also doing a double shift on Friday as he is doing Early Breakfast and sitting in for Matt for Friday-Sunday. Katie Thistleton is in for Maya on Friday, Cel is doing Greatest Hits Sunday so a double shift for him while Adele is doing Dance Anthems Saturday and Weekend Breakfast Sunday.

Probably means that the Drivetime and maybe Breakfast changes start 3rd September.

Which makes sense to start it that week because that's when people go back to school/college! I'm sure I read before that in July/August listener figures drop because of this, so it would be stupid to start a new breakfast show during that period when nobody is awake :D

Just me who thinks so many weeks off for swapping shows is a bit excessive? if its what prepares them for the best possible start to the show then why not but others have only taken 1 or 2 weeks off before they took over...

I’m not sure, I think we’ll get 3 weeks of Matt and Mollie since they haven’t done any cover so far.

The only thing is that Matt seems to be off a lot at the moment and so Jordan is covering his show which means that in a couple of weeks time, Jordan wouldn’t have done his Greatest Hits Show for about a month.

It is a bit of a mess at the moment - Grimmy is the only person still doing his regular show! They probably wanted everyone to get in their holidays now so that the full line up is on for the breakfast launch.

It's all over the show but getting other presenters some exposure

I also think we'll get 3 weeks of Scott on Breakfast which leads me into my next question; will Scott use his breakfast package which is basically Grimmys but with the name changed to Scott's or will he just use his generic afternoon jingles, like when he covered between Moyles and Grimmy and milk it being the "shortest breakfast show ever" except if this is longer than five shows it won't have been

Also noticed Alice and Dev did well not making reference to Greg apart from at 1806 when they said "should we be doing something now" referring to the ten minute takeover

Of course it must be hard for them not to say "oh hi it's Dev and Alice here in for Greg" at the moment

    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
    • Just watched that advert and it made me realise quite how many 'big' specialist presenters there were back then
    • I've been reminded of this Radio 1 cinema advert. I remember being so excited to see it. The In New Music We Trust era. Everything felt so cool, even if they had Westwood.
    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
    • Wow, surprised he signed a new contract in September but it says a lot about Jordan that he continued to a very high standard throughout last summer/autumn if this was all going on in the background.
