Last time as "The Matt Edmondson Show"* tomorrow before it becomes "Matt and Mollie" next week.

* Not called that on air anymore but nice that they still called it that on the online schedule

RIP. I still miss the Wednesday night version of The Matt Edmondson Show - it was like nothing I'd ever heard before, or since. So creative, and so funny.

It was pure epicness even with that magpie always stealing the CDs with Matt's best features.

"We'll cobble something together".

Not to forget Gary the Psychic Moth, Funty the Fun Time Puppet Pal, Warwick Hunt (the BBC's Head of Editorial Compliance), Peter Spendthrift (Radio 1's original Money Saving Expert) and Tim the Twitter Trending Expert. Plus Matt's Rich Uncle Alan, Doc Beige and Taio Cruz's secret diary. It was only one hour once a week for 18 months, and yet it had so many memorable moments.

It would really suit the 3am comedy slot, they should bring it back.

Oh yes*, I love all of these, but couldn't name them all even if I tried. I can add one though: the fake BBC Three promos which always sounded real for a few moments, and these "shows" were always hosted by the same "former Atomic Kitten member", that was where I always lost it. Saved a few episodes back then, I might give them a listen when I can.

*YAAAAAAASS!

Ah, the old Wednesday night Matt Edmondson Show. I miss it too, it was the first radio show that I made sure that I didn't miss each week. Still one of the best things I've ever heard.

Dev has been sounding good covering the 8th recently – still entertaining without the I-want-the-whole-universe-to-hear-me shouting. He makes the show much more listenable.

Jordan is covering for Matt with Mollie that Friday, guessing they want the same person both days for continuity.

Jordan is also covering for Matt with Mollie for the rest of the weekend and so Cel is doing Jordans Greatest Hits Show. Jordan is also covering Adele on Monday and Tuesday and possibly all week because Adele is covering Clara’s Show.

So, the schedule for week 1 of Greg's break is up - Will Best on earlies, Grimmy still on breakfast, Adele in for Clara, Jordan in for Scott (for the first time ever - wonder if Chris will be with him?) and Dev and Alice in for Greg. Adele back on early breakfast on the Friday though, and Dev and Alice doing Friday breakfast as well. Not sure who's doing the chart yet.

Its funny looking at schedule

Says "Jordan in for Scott" and "Adele in for Clara" yet on drive just says "Dev and Alice" presume as after next Thursday it's not Greg's show anymore so it will be the funny interim period when it's no ones show - Same thing happened when Moyles left and Scott covered "a breakfast show with no name"

Wonder if Scott covers the weeks after Grimmy finishes then he will use the standard Jingle package for the breakfast show he has or will he use his standard afternoon ones in readiness for a new package for Greg

    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
    • Just watched that advert and it made me realise quite how many 'big' specialist presenters there were back then
    • I've been reminded of this Radio 1 cinema advert. I remember being so excited to see it. The In New Music We Trust era. Everything felt so cool, even if they had Westwood.
    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
    • Wow, surprised he signed a new contract in September but it says a lot about Jordan that he continued to a very high standard throughout last summer/autumn if this was all going on in the background.
