Scott and Chris 24hour Lolathon

Apparently Alice Levine and her "My Dad Wrote A Porno" podcast co-stars will be on after 10pm with "swearing allowed" according to Scott on the breakfast show this morning. Anyone who's heard that podcast will know how hilarious it is: can't wait for 4pm for the whole thing to start, think it's gonna be brilliant!

They are videoing the show, and uploading segments of the lolathon to twitter https://mobile.twitter.com/BBCR1/status/841743548949135360/video/1

I know, but it just seems a bit of a social media overload. A live video feed, like on the Chris Moyles Show, added to the exclusivity and fun. I wanna know what's going on as the songs play! I wanna see who's producing! I wanna watch the goings-on and the way they create such great content!

Was great to hear Scott on after 1600 on drive, and specially knowing he was on the "decks"

I thought the format would be the resident presenter did their show with Scott in the background, but looks like Scott has control of the "decks" and the residents are there just contributing

I think if you can somehow access the 'Watch Live' page, you can watch the feed that is being used to record the Twitter clips. Not sure how you can do that though, I did try earlier on

I used to have the "Live" video feed in a html page on my laptop for exactly this reason, although when the cameras aren't on, you do just get the "This is BBC Radio 1, Our Cameras aren't on at the moment blahh blahh..." so bit disappointing. But they can do things with the cameras independent of them being on the live video output (just like they could record a link with a caller during a song and we'd never know).

The voice over is really irritating and some guests better than others! Great to hear it though.

Doesn't seem to have the gravitas and excitement of Moyles' show - and why didn't they put a live feed up? :(((

Harry Hill and Lee Nelson on in the last hour. Both massive WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO's, in my opinion!

Really enjoyed Mills being back in his rightful home. I was half expecting Beccy and Chappers to show up for a game of Oh What's Occurring.

Speaking of which, http://www.unofficialmills.co.uk/communities/local_links.php?action=ratelink&catid=1&linkid=1321.

Edit: OMG literally just after I posted this, Scott told that nun joke favourite joke. Coincidence or what.

First total just there: 28,000.

Absolutely loving nighttime Mills. These sort of 24 hour events are just R1 at its absolute best- real event radio, relaxed, edgy, all the DJs chipping in.

Really coming into its own now at nighttime with more free reign on jokes- some hilarious ones in the last hour or two & getting dirtier lol.

Matt Edmondson & Grimmy have been brilliant on this.

Long time lurker of this forum/site, first time commenter-- and I had to pop in to say how much I'm enjoying this! I live in NZ so it's never made sense for me to listen to Scott's show live due to timezones,  but this is great and works well considering it's the afternoon right now. A few of the jokes have legitimately made me laugh out loud too!

    • Yep I really struggled with Matt & Jamie which was a shame as otherwise really like Matt. Unfortunately it comes across on-air whether it's actually try or not that Jamie doesn't know a lot about radio and doesn't seem particularly desperate to improve either or if I'm being generous he's playing an act - neither of which particularly appeals. The everyman act can sometimes work but you need to have that natural likability and appeal for it to do so in the way that way Chris Stark did. I mean even towards the end of his stint with Matt Jamie was struggling with getting the Whatsapp number right which is a basic.
    • Have to say even if there is a good reason for Jamie to be off on Thursdays the optics of them a month in still not be able to do a 'normal week' of the scheduled team for a brand new show isn't great. And if Jamie was meant to be away on Thursdays clearly nobody let whoever runs BBC Sounds know. Who would've guessed from the Vick & Jordan days though that it would be Vick who's the everpresent so far (just kidding Vick - really rate her as a DJ and I know she has a lot of other engagements outside of Radio 1).
    • Sorry explain what you mean there please? Danny is unlistenable??
    • I dunno if it is me but even Vick and Katie don't sound as good in that slot alone as they did before. Maybe I have just fallen out of love with it all.
    • Agree with most of this above. Listening to only vick and katie today, I was thinking that it doesn't need Jamie. Its very jarring how sometimes he's there and sometimes he isn't. I don't think it needs to be a trio. Surely there are bigger problems at the moment, Danny on a pretty big slot on the station is literally unlistenable.
    • Yes, the length of the time on the station does help as with Annie Mac she did what dance specialist DJs kind of get a bit more favourability with the evening listeners who start out on something specialist. With Annie Mac she did years on dance before going to the flagship new music specialist programme with giving opportunities to new DJs and curating the playlist and having something different from Clara’s more music daytime show where she had to work with the playlist. Had she done more time doing a specialist show later on in the schedule it may have oddly made the moment bigger. Think sometimes what has helped create such a unique sound in presenters and personalities like Annie Mac, Jack and Grimmy for example starting out doing a late show with looser format. Think for the next Jack, Annie and Clara’s of the station do need to have a late live slot and do hope when radio 1 relax is shut down that maybe they change the power down playlist for something with bit more freedom.
    • She is a good broadcaster no doubts but am of the same page with feelings mutual.
    • Clara was always a decent, competent and even good music radio presenter. But equally, she never provoked really strong emotions in me that I must listen or must switch off.
    • Jamie is definitely very divisive though.  Some people's "radio comedy gold" is other people's "unlistenable".  I have liked Matt and Mollie, Matt on his own, Mollie and Jordan etc etc.  But couldn't listen to Matt with Jamie. No hate on Jamie but I just don't like his sense of humour.
    • The dynamics of this are interesting.  Jordan works best with people he knows and he already knows Chris and Sian so from day one it should sound fairly natural.
    • Have an amazing birthday Scott!  Looking forward to Tuesday!
    • This has to be a joke right. This is so Scott Mills 🤣
