I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again Scott Mills is our John Peel. He’ll be in that slot for years to come.

I love the look of the daytime schedule from September - probably the strongest it has ever been, but the one thing that I would fix if I was in charge is the absolute mess that it looks like nighttimes will become. I can’t understand why there doesn’t look to be any particular content between midnight and 4am each day, and also why the specialist shows are being reduced to an hour. It just doesn’t make any sense to me.

I would have implemented a schedule like this - keeping Future Sounds starting at 7pm:
7-9 Future Sounds with Clara Amfo
    9-11 Replacement for RMC
11-1 Future Artists with Jack Saunders
    1-3 Specialist
    3-4 R1 Dance/ Relax
    4-7 Early Breakfast
Just makes it a lot neater by mainly extending shows again!

My biggest problem is the nighttime schedule. From September I’d have:
Monday-Wednesday have a full on chillest show from 22:00-0:00, not just a power down playlist. This would be hosted by Sian.
Thursday night is the rock night, with The Indie Show followed by The Rock Show.
Friday and Saturday night are all about dance. Danny and Sarah on both nights, with Pete on Friday and Jaguar on Saturday.
on Sunday I’d have BBC Introducing followed by Sunday Chillout, hosted by Jess and then Sian.

Completely agree here. Personally Radio 1 Breakfast is my fav it's ever been (was never a fan of Moyles but I was probs a little too young really) - Greg provides exactly what you need in the morning, a laugh, some stupid stuff that takes you away from what's actually happening in the crazy world and loads of decent (and a wide variety) of music. As others have said I think this is the best R1 has ever been. There isn't a time when I don't want to listen (whereas previously I would have only listened to selective shows). Even most of the cover is pretty good, like Radio 1 Breakfast with Matt & Mollie works really well when Greg isn't there, likewise with Vick & Katie covering for Scott & Chris.

I understand this...and yeah these decisions are made right at the top of management. Doubt anyone had a say that actually works at Radio 1!
However, as a state broadcaster, surely (as we here all the time from the BBC themselves), there job is to provide something for everyone.
Some radio stations completely dedicated to the news and extensive coverage (BBC Radio 4, 5 Live) but other providing light entertainment (music stations)....then as there duty as a state broadcaster they still provide regular updates on the music stations (through Newsbeat etc).
The same could be said for BBC TV yesterday, why on earth they shut down BBC Four and simulcast BBC One, Two, News and Parliament I have no idea. BBC One should have focused on the news coverage and BBC Two should have provided light entertainment (quiz programmes, Attenborough docs or something).

As long as each track has been correctly logged in the first place, this metadata is retained even when mixed into an Anthems 'chunk' or as part of a fully pre-rec show.  The dira! playout system links to the 'Now Playing' info.
Basically, if done correctly, music is logged and marked on the system as 'send to public display' so it appears on Now Playing, but beds, imaging, trails, speech clips etc are not marked 'send to public display' so they don't appear on Now Playing, even though everything is played out of the same system.  This also generates the tracklistings on programme web pages - if these are ever blank it's because there was some kind of error with the music logging.

I used to work at a radio station (not R1, think smaller!) so I have a bit of an insight into this, although I'm sure it varies.
Where I worked, around half of the presenters were staff and half were freelancers.  Staff had to request leave and have it approved - freelancers could just say they were 'unavailable' but we would expect a reasonable amount of notice (apart from sickness) so that cover could be arranged.  At R1 I believe all of their presenters are freelance.
We would have a list of presenters who could cover each show - their suitability would be based on profile, experience, other work/commitments, so lots of factors.  There would always be a preferred cover presenter for each show, and I think you can see that at R1 certain people tend to cover certain shows regularly - often they try to find someone 'similar' to cover.
If more than one daytime presenter were off at the same time then you would also consider how the day 'sounded' in terms of different voices i.e. avoiding 3 male or 3 female presenters in a row, for example, so there was variety to the sound as you went through the day.
Part of my job was to book presenters to cover leave but the overall decisions around who could cover each show was made by the editor - the manager in charge of the station.  I would make the phone calls to arrange short notice cover, although at weekends there would always be a manager 'on call' who could make those decisions too.
In my job, finding cover presenters was always fairly easy - it was much harder to cover a producer or newsreader who went off sick!

I agree I don’t really like Anthems anymore, feels unnecessary. They could just slip a couple of classic turns into the playlist throughout the day. Or make some classic mixes available on BBC Sounds.

I always thought Party Anthems was good 6-7 as it kind of symbolised end of the working week and start of the weekend. Bit pointless 3-4. If they wanted to bring Annie Mac forward I would of done Official Chart 3-5 and Party Anthems 5-5:45.

    Also here’s something small.https://radiotoday.co.uk/2019/05/heart-drivetime-show-presenters-announced-by-global/
Lucy who’s been hosting breakfast with Jamie for months now seems to be going quietly.
Also it’s sad with the axe on local shows- those djs worked hard. Somebody big at global decides to axe what few local shows there are on these networks

    Hello everyone
Aled here, Head of Programmes at Radio 1. Thank you for all your passion for Scott,  Chris and Radio 1 - the station’s success relies on fans like yourselves caring about radio and what we do and all of us at Radio 1 really appreciate it.
Don't worry - I’m not planning on hanging around and cramping your style, I’m trying to get hold of Jono. I’ve used the ‘Contact us’ section but I’ve heard nothing yet, if someone on the board has his contact please ask him to email me.
    (It’s nothing bad!)
Keep up the amazing work everyone, be as critical as you like, I’m sure Scott appreciates it.
    Thanks,
    Aled.

That's a dubiously photoshopped photo of Jordan North with Mollie, there! The schedule certainly is a mess at the moment - I would hope they're all in their own shows once Greg starts breakfast!!

i think a "Going To Work" song would be pretty funny start for the first few weeks. Then they can ditch it like "Going Home Song". But think that would really set up the kind of show it will be.
