Same. I miss all the little show traditions he did on Radio 1. Perfect Christmas Single, Magnus Carlson Wrap Myself In Paper, (which he still plays on R2) Scott & Chris' presents to each other, Whooovent calendar, Dial a Carol, and of course playing the first Christmas song of the year in September. I can't remember if he did the Dial A Carol thing last year or not.

Seems inevitable that once Greg goes, it will either be Jordan & Mollie on breakfast with Vick & Katie on drive or else Jordan & Katie on breakfast with Vick & Jamie on drive. Think the second option would make more sense. I really like Mollie but think a lot of that's down to how good her and Matt are together. Also, she's not exactly the future of the station and it seems a risk to put an unfamiliar duo on breakfast full time. The shows with Jordan this week have been solid but sound a bit forced. Jordan and Katie are so brilliant together and have a genuine friendship so they seem like the obvious choice but who knows.....

This week's schedule with Sam & Danni on EB, Jordan and Katie on breakfast, Vick and Jamie on Drive and Jack Saunders on Future Sounds definitely feels like a trial run for a post-Greg schedule. Does seem a bit of a waste developing the Vick and Jordan partnership for years and then having to split them up. Also, I find the schedule a bit too duo-heavy sometimes, think Jordan would be a perfectly good breakfast host by himself and then put Katie with Vick on Going Home.

Chris is very much Scott’s “sidekick”. The others are all “co-presenters”.

Didn't hear much of Dev and Alice but even they acknowledged how strange it is calling it "Weekend Breakfast" on a Friday when most normal people are going to work/school/college like any other weekday. For people who listened, was the format as loose as the weekend show or did it feel like a weekday breakfast show?
Matt and Mollie - they do seem to genuinely get on but from the bit I heard, I wasn't that impressed. Their content seems so forced, they did a link of what music is coming up and did things like "Len Goodman's favourite song" for Seven by Catfish and the Bottlemen - I cringed. When you're so used to listening to Scott and Chris at that time on a Friday, they just seem like such a downgrade. Still listenable.
Scott - not much to say, he's brilliant on the chart and sounds so at home. You could tell how much he was enjoying it. Usually don't listen to the chart and tune in for Dance Anthems but had to listen for Scott's first - he sounded great on DA too.
Maya - this might be an unpopular opinion on here but I think she's brilliant. Ok technically there's still room for improvement but she has great personality and her content links were pretty good I think, much more entertaining than Clara whose show seems to revolve around "that was, this is" type of links apart from the Live Lounge. Maya's top of hour bits are good and I think there's huge potential with her, I see why Ben Cooper is pushing her into more prominent slots. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see her eventually take the 10-1 slot permanently. I was a bit confused to hear the Greatest Hits stop just after 11 - I think 3 hours is too much anyway but might make more sense to have the Greatest Hits dispersed more evenly throughout the show instead of going full-on between 10 and 11 and then basically just going back to the normal playlist for the rest of the show.

I prefer the imaging Greg had - this update seems like a watered down version of the same package. I doubt Delicious Digital had any involvement in this refresh, I'd say the in-house R1 production team just updated what they got first time around.

Scott getting jealous over Chris bonding with Mike Skinner off of The Streets at last night's gig on Annie Mac's show was hilarious today!
Chris: 'Music speaks to me. I know that's a weird thing to say.'
Scott: 'I speak to you for 3 hours a day, hun!'
    Later on...
Chris: 'I'm finding more and more that major moments in my life happen when you're around, Annie.'
Scott: 'Has she allowed you to play Innuendo Bingo with Lauren Pope? No!
    HAHAHAHA! I love these two!

    Well then... very unexpected.
    The good:
Great to see Mollie King permanently joining Matt, I think we all thought she fitted in well. I'm normally against non-radio celebs getting permanent airtime but Mollie feels like a natural. I'm not overly bothered about Matt on his own but with Mollie it should be an entertaining listen. Mills getting the Chart is fantastic. I can't see Chris joining him as the show isn't very zoo-format worthy but Mills has always been better than any chart host he's covered so should be good. Dev and Alice are two of my personal favourites at Radio 1 so I'll never say no to more of them.  The bad:
As much as Clara's show isn't my cup of tea the weekday 10-1 slot is traditionally the most new/live music-oriented show on the daytime line-up, and she's fit into that particular role nicely. I thought Radio 1 were supposed to be increasing their new music quota and I don't see how churning out the likes of Teenage Dirtbag or Mr Brightside again, now on a weekday (sort-of), is helping that. Maya's got potential but I don't think she's there yet. A weekday show is a big gig so we'll need to hear how that works out. The Chart extending to 7pm is disappointing, even if it is with Mills. I thought the condensed hours worked better for a show which for a large part is songs which have come and gone from the playlist weeks ago.  Dance Anthems was always a nice little segue into the specialist dance shows of Friday nights. Poor move scrapping the Friday edition. A bold move from Cooper ditching three of the station's biggest names one day per week but innovation is never a bad thing.

Don't know why it's still suggested Mills will eventually move to weekends and do some weekday cover. I would put a large amount of money on that not happening.  He'll go out at the top on weekdays 1-4. Why would one of Radio 1's most legendary presenters who's been on weekdays for nearly 15 years agree to be demoted to weekends and the subs bench. Never gonna happen in my opinion.

I like the zoo format, the randomness and the sense of not knowing what'll happen next. Seems like a really good idea for a show but the music is putting me off a bit. The show is meant to be R1 AND 1Xtra, I know rap and grime is huge right now but I think the music needs to be more of a hybrid between the two stations. He's playing a lot of stuff that would be on the 1Xtra daytime playlist- it's a nighttime show so I wouldn't mind more specialist nighttime music (a mix of what Annie, Toddla T, Mistajam, Benji B are playing etc).

    Really like these changes.
Promoting Charlie makes perfect sense- he's great and I think a show with him could bring some much-needed life to nights, in the style of Nick Grimshaw's old 10pm show. Annie, Charlie and Huw is a really strong post-7pm schedule. Shame to see Huw bumped to 11pm but always thought 3 hours was too long. I'd ditch the Residency and have him on Monday-Thursdays 11pm-1am so you have a consistent line-up. 3 very distinct shows which will be great.
The 9pm shows had become stale and time-fillers : R1 Stories repeats, Residencies that made no impact on the station etc. Even Phil's specialist chart seemed unnecessary.
Great to see Danny promoted to Friday nights- didn't realise it has been 6 years on Dance Anthems! Annie Mac, Pete Tong, Danny Howard, B Traits- wow, that's impressive. Mistajam the perfect replacement for Danny too, he'll be great. Putting Katie and Cel together is a smart move- a bit more direction & purpose for the slot and I think Cel was still struggling to hold down a 3 hour show by himself.
Great to see the 2 hour shows back and an exciting, diverse nighttime line-up.

murste got a reaction from welovemoyles in Radio 1: Why is the station struggling to find new DJs?
Interesting article. It's a fair point about syndication and cuts to local commercial radio and that the likes of T4, MTV live shows etc aren't around anymore and they often had young talent to choose from. However, there are still plenty of young, talented, passionate presenters out there to choose from. They took a risk with Greg James- got him to cover Sara Cox the day after he graduated! There's got to be some brilliant talent from student radio they should nurture and develop. Same with commercial radio- recruit young talent from local or regional stations who have potential. Only if they're good enough of course.
He's brought in Clara Amfo, Jordan North and Adele Roberts (from 1Xtra) in recent years but it seems like way more could be done. Getting Rylan to cover seemed like desperation, as did Cel Spellman getting a show (he's not awful and yes, he's a big CBBC name but will never be weekday material IMO and a 20 year old from student radio who has natural radio talent should be given a chance instead).
One name I'd keep an eye out for- Riyadh Khalaf. He's been doing BBC3 documentaries, has a huge YouTube following and presented on a radio station in Dublin as well as being an entertainment reporter. Wouldn't be surprised to see him doing some weekend cover in the coming months.

Love the montage! Really pleased they're going all out on the 50th celebrations, the digital station is a brilliant idea. Surprised Scott wasn't included but I suppose he's still a current presenter. Would've liked to see Nick Grimshaw & Annie Mac from the Switch days on the line-up and Reggie Yates & Fearne Cotton rather than just Fearne considering Reggie was on both R1 and 1Xtra for so long and they were a great pairing (Fearne's best days were with Reggie).
Regarding Moyles, it would've looked ridiculous and petty if they didn't include him (longest serving breakfast presenter and all that)- also, it's nothing to do with Global. Radio 1 own all of The Chris Moyles Show content and it'll all still be on their systems somewhere.
Hope Live Lounge Month is a bit different to usual. Would also love Annie Mac to do some shows reflecting on the new acts Radio 1 have broken early on in their careers over the years. A countdown of the best 50 songs Radio 1 has played over the 50 years would be amazing too. Put out a shortlist of 100 and people can vote on the website. Count it down on the last Thursday in September- Scott doing 50-26 from 1-4pm and then Greg doing an Official Chart Special revealing the Number 1 before 5:45.

I really like it- sounds slick, modern and I agree it has more gravitas to it while also being "bouncy" and a good bed if that makes sense! It also flows better as a bulletin with the removal of the clunkier two beeps between headline and main news and between news and sport where the reader would have to pause for a few seconds- not anymore.
The intro has gone from "Digital, FM, Online. This is BBC Radio 1" to "Listen, Watch, Share. This is BBC Radio 1" to "This is BBC Radio 1" to now just "1". I do slightly miss the "This is BBC Radio 1" intro from the last package- it sounded official and it sounded great when the presenter timed the intro perfectly. Still like the new package though.
It is a bit funny that the week after Gemma Cairney leaves, they introduce a news jingle which isn't as obvious to crash!

So nothing will change basically. The report says two extended bulletins with one in peak (i.e. the 5:45) so no need to make any drastic changes to the current schedule. Just a few corrections to the above timings- there's a 10pm which is 2 minutes and the 3:30 is 3 mins.
