  1. I liked her last show, but I don’t feel it had the same impact as Annie’s show. Also, I feel her tenure was quite short to be honest, so don’t understand what the sentiments are all about. I mean Annie did this show for 6 years and Zane Lowe for 12, compared to Clara’s 3 years. Looking forward to Jack taking over from her - I think he has a lot of influence from Zane Lowe and we need that energy in 6pm slot.
  2. I'm not sure about this. Radio is all about continuity and management changes every few years might break this, because every new boss would want to change something.
  3. And this move would probably happen in July, meaning their stint at weekend breakfast would be almost a year.
  4. Matt and Mollie were a comfortable breakfast duo because putting them on breakfast wouldn't disrupt the weekday schedule. Now, they don't have that choice, which means it has to be someone from the weekdays. I don't see Vick, Katie and Jamie, because three presenters could be too heavy in place of Greg. It can still be M&M, but also Dean. Your point about early breakfast presenters not covering breakfast is fair, but Dean is not a traditional early breakfast presenter, as his profile is arguably higher than that of the usual early breakfast presenter, and he has already covered the breakfast show. Not sure about Dean presenting breakfast permanently - with the current trends it must be at least a duo.
  5. Mollie seems to be loving presenting Future Pop though. I hope it won't be prerecorded as it was on Friday mornings.
  6. Dean and Vicky's example serves as a reminder that duos should have some sort of connection and not just be thrown together randomly. When you look at other successful Radio 1 duos, you see that either it happened naturally over time (Scott and Chris, Matt and Molle) or they're really good mates (Sam and Danni, RMC). The only recent exception I would say is Vick and Jordan, who were thrown together randomly but managed to make it work. Btw, I believe Dean and Vicky would be perfectly fine for commercial radio, where the links are more scripted. However, on the BBC, you must have a real connection to make it work.
  7. Wasn't the new dance show announced a while ago? I guess it's not a demotion; it might have been her decision to leave Early breakfast. She had 'I'm tired from waking up at 4 am' vibes for a while now.
  8. Yeah, it's a big demotion for Dean. Early breakfast is usually the first career step at Radio 1 or a promotion from doing a weekend show. Dean seems like a nice man, but I feel he was catapulted to the weekday show too fast, and we're seeing the result of it.
  9. If you compare presenter salaries published by the BBC, you'll see that a few years ago there were three R1 names: Scott Mills, Nick Grimshaw, and Greg James. Last year, there was only one - Greg. No one makes it even to the lowest £178,000 - £184,999 bracket, so I presume that two presenters on daytime cost roughly the same or even less than one in the past. But they're getting two presenters instead of one, and this means that they can do their shows on their own if someone's sick, which also saves money. Also, some current presenters do only a few shows a week, and higher-paid weekday presenters are doing only Monday-Thursday, which I presume also saves money. I remember that Jordan was complaining some time ago that when he was doing only a few weekend shows a week, he was barely able to live in London. And now some shows are moving from London which also helps to save money, as the BBC can pay less to those people.
  10. I believe most of the changes were for good during Aled's tenure. I saw someone accuse Aled of letting Jordan go, but I think that's highly untrue. He was already doing the second biggest R1 show, and putting him on breakfast would also be a bad choice because it would mean letting Greg go. All in all, I think Aled's working with what's available money and people-wise. I'm just not sure about recurring features such as missions for the presenters and the overuse of the Anthems format.
  11. For some reason, Jordan looks at home in the Capital studio. It's a huge gig, and he would have been stupid if he didn't take it. Still, it's a shame that Radio 1 didn't let him do the final show.
  12. It would be logical if it were really the Capital breakfast. I mean it's still a prestigious show, and they get quite a lot of freedom. In addition, Jordan has no guarantee if he would get the R1 breakfast show in the future, and the money is probably better at Global. And yes, I see Jamie and Vick as a temporary decision. It might work, but I wouldn't be surprised if after a year we see changes at drivetime. I think now it depends on whether Vick wants to stay at R1 for much longer.

    Radio rumours

Wasn't it the case that he didn't really like most of the playlist music he was playing on R1?
  14. Well I mean all of her recent shows were prerecorded with very few links and guest mixes.
