    Ask Chris and Jordan

Capital Radio's breakfast presenters have been really chuffed with the lovely comments you've left about the programme, and they want to give something back. So next week they've offered to come on the forums and answer some of your questions. Get your thinking caps on and post your questions for Chris and Jordan here. And who knows, they might rope Sian into it too. They'll have the licence to answer what they want, and I'm sure you have plenty of questions!

  2. It’s not necessarily the fact that Jamie is posh. It’s that the show seems to be really keen to play on it. Within 10 minutes of their first show they were playing voice notes from his Celeb mates. Compare that to Vick and Jordan’s first week in September 2021; their first links were about Jordan’s awkward encounter with his plumber and Vick slapping a roast chicken. And then on Monday this week, Jamie is sulking (exaggerated sulking admittedly) about something, this ultimately being that another of his celeb mates has cancelled his appearance on their show, and they’re literally reading out texts such as ‘I’m sure this is going to be relatable to the entire population.’

  3. I hate reverse snobbery and I post this reluctantly as we shouldn't hold Jamie's background against him, but I do think many listeners will find it hard to identify with Jamie. One of the things that made Jordan so popular was he sounded like the mate you go for a pint with who always has a great story to tell.

    When is Scott back?

He's alive and doing Calgon promotion! Those five weeks off have to pay somehow

    Very good show though

  6. What an intro! Interesting how they're starting with Nia Archives 'Baiana' (a song which has been out for a year or so). Does that mean they are bringing a new mix of older and newer tracks? And is the hottest record now at it's old time of 6.30?

  7. The point I was making is this is not content made for entertainment it was a product placement. There is a difference between the two. It not a fun idea that people have brought to air for a laugh. It was designed to look like mates having fun and come up with this idea but it was just a advert. That why I say it feel false.

  8. End of week one. It's a great show actually and whilst we'd probably like some more of "chaotic Jordan" it sounds close to flawless for a new show. I am sure it helps a lot that Jordan already knew Chris and Sian well. Capital must be delighted as I am sure Roman would have been there for as long as he wanted so it must be great to have such a smooth transition.

  9. Fantastic loving the new breakfast show so far! Jordan, Chris and Sian are really natural together, but I won’t always be able to listen to the full show. Are there any plans for a podcast/best bits of the breakfast show for those of us who have fomo please?

  10. Global IS an advertising business - the radio shows just fit around the commercials.

  11. It's more engaging than I imagined Capital breakfast to be. Like others said, I haven't heard Roman much to compare it. It sounds like Sian and Chris have more leadership on air.

    Greg James' apology

Clearly no offence was intended, Greg has apologised and learnt a lesson, that's the end of it as far as I am cocerned. I think on all these topics we need to distinguish between the behaviour of hate and poorly thought out comments. The first raises serious questions of what roles a person should be in and the second is a learning curve. We live in a more and more complex world and we could all fall foul of saying something stupid sometime without thinking.

  13. Undoutedly the show annoys the bigots who don't like them for what they are. However, I simply don't like the show as it feels poor quality and out of sync with the sound of the station.

  15. Hats off to Chris for leaving a challenge for Greg. To plan that out was great detailing and proves what a talented guy he is. The post he posted on Instagram also links into it which is great to. There is loyalty to Greg there so I don't think he's joining Capital. Persephonica was looking for an 'experienced entertainment producer' a few months ago. I wonder if this is where Chris might be heading?

  16. Felt awkward to start the programme with Newsbeat talking about where they discover new music - and most people saying TikTok. Nice throwbacks to Zane Lowe, Annie Mac and Clara Amfo at the start of the show.

    The Radio 1 Playlist

The playlist has definitely got a bit narrower this year, it feels like. Artists like Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Drake and Doja Cat seem to be played in every show, even when they’re not on the playlist. Other artists who get a few plays a week, such as Niall Horan, always seem to have the same song played, in his case, Heaven. Whenever they dive into Calvin Harris’ backlog it always seems to be Slide and Promises pulled out, even though they’re two of his least upbeat songs. Most songs they play seem to have been from the 2020s, instead of throwing in a few older hits like Capital does, which is something I think they could do.

    Jack Saunders' new show

Yes, good on you doing your own music blog website. I get that point with the 100% all new music can be alienating but think thats more if the station were to do more totally new bands and artists the thing that new music shows that preceded Jack have always have reflected big artists national and international who have been around for a while be that few years to a decade or two whether playing new stuff from artists to Dua Lipa, Coldplay or Nia Archives. I find its bizarre how music curation has changed a lot in the last decade as what I like of what radio can do well is that ability to hear an audible description of a new artist and information about their music with sense of opinion and thought from the presenter and an interview with the switch to sound features and spotify playlists. It’s not that same magazine effect that Steve Lamarq and Jo Whiley could be an audible magazine show like the NME to Zane Lowe’s radio 1 show complimenting Gonzo which Saunders has revived for MTV

    Jack Saunders' new show

I would rather do the new music show than the breakfast show early starts, being cheery and entertaining isn’t my vibe and being hip and on trend. With new music it’s a different kettle of fish that could get my teeth into and enjoy researching and planning of the show and coming up with ideas and making my mark in away that I don’t think I have the ideas for a breakfast. I don’t see how it could be alienating but I enjoy the niche and speciality of expertise that new music shows gives it’s good spot of giving you the headlines and setting the agenda of mainstream music.

  21. I will still call them sessions as feel with gigs it makes you think of a live tangible means of going to listen to a band play music and not virtually tuning in via the medium of radio.

  23. I agree, I originally thought the reverb was left on and was a mistake as the other sound effects were solid.

  24. Jack excellent so far and this is what a Radio 1 new music show should be. But the 'falling down a well' echo repeating what Jack just said will hopefully just be a short-term thing - it's 15 minutes in and already starting to irritate me. Or should I say irritatemeRITTATEMErittateme Jack doesn't need a gimmick like that - he's excellent as he is.

  27. I hate to be that guy but we all know the Greggs thing was pre arranged days if not weeks in advance? It wasn't a spare of the moment thing by Chris and the convo about it was pre panned and not in the moment thing. It was an ad deal. One big ad for Greggs which they paid Capital for. This is why radio should state Product Placement just like TV. Radio 1 can't do these things for a reason. For me this what makes the show sound fake because it's a false thing pretending it all happened over night. Greggs would have to order on extra stuff to make it happen. You can't do that in 24 hrs. There will be more of these deals. I bet there will be a few Gregg "surprise" things happen over time. Other brands as well.

  28. Off topic, because not really relating to Jordan’s show specifically, but one thing that struck me when I was listening back today is the words they cut out of songs on R1 that they don’t on Capital. The word ‘kill’ is cut out of all of Kill Bill by SZA on R1, not on Capital.

  30. Listening to the whole show it was actually a great fresh listen. It was very very busy with lots of first show stunts but still little nods to the Jordan we loved on Radio 1. Also, immediately he feels at ease with Chris and Asian. He definitely feels more slick and professional though.

    Greg James' apology

No doubt the mordern society we live in would want Greg ripped off the air. I'm sure what he said wasn't meant in any bad way. He's not a bad bloke. He's apologised, move on. We may as well take risks and live in the moment now. For right or wrong. Because in another decade, you could probably end up being arrested for watching repeats of 8 out of 10 cats on Dave.

  35. Yes, I do think on socia;l media theres that mentality still there. I do think on social media theres a bit of an on-line wolf whistle from when I see people talking about Maya. I think that there still is a thing in the TV where people who are seen as good looking are more likely to get jobs.

  36. In all honesty didn’t mind her as much on the radio. I find she was more preferable on radio than television. I find she doesn’t quite fit the TV world and find most often when she is on television most viewers objectify her and is based on her looks rather than her as a presenter found she wasn’t too over bearing or in your face. I didn’t mind listening to her while completing my A-Level art work.

  41. See I don’t agree…I think the three way dynamic is not really working. Vick & Katie are really great together and I enjoy Vick & Jamie together. It’s something between Katie & Jamie that’s not gelling for me. However it’s early days and they are still much better than some other combos. Plus Matt & Jamie were radio comedy gold for me so I don’t think Jamie’s the problem. Just maybe didn’t need to be a three.

    Radio 1 socials

I really liked how Global app allow for video streaming when listening to stations like Capital. They said you could go to the app to see their new breakfast show presenter when Jordan was announced. A good way to get more people using their app. I wonder if Sounds would consider it.
